Official Student Organizations Receiving Funding Allocations During the Fiscal Year 2014-2015 Above groups received funding through the budget board process. Page 1 of 25 The amount of the Student Activity Fee for 2014-15 was $486 and was used to support the operation, maintenance and debt service expenditures for Student Centers and Activities, the Center for the Arts and for support of various student organization programming activities as determined by the Student Budget Board. For 2014-15, 1,230,510 was available to be allocated to support various student organizations, which included a base allocation of $1,129,881 for fiscal year 2014-15, and $100,629 of unspent and/or unallocated funds carried forward from the prior fiscal year. Student organizations applying for student activity fee funding must submit budget requests to be reviewed by the Student Budget Board (SBB). Only organizations that have registered with Student Centers and Activities, by the end of the fourth week of the Fall semester, are eligible to submit a budget request. All organizations may be asked to appear before the board to present their request and to answer questions of the board members. The board is governed by funding policies approved by the Commission on Student Affairs (CSA). The Student Budget Board, a standing committee under the CSA, is responsible for reviewing budget requests and making funding decisions for University Chartered Student Organizations (UCSO), University Student Life Programs (USLP), and Registered Student Organizations (RSO). Its membership is composed of students, staff, and faculty. The Student Budget Board is chaired and advised by the Associate Director of Student Centers and Activities, a full time, administrative staff member.

The amount of the Student Activity Fee for 2014-15 was $486 and was used to support the operation, maintenance and debt service expenditures for Student Centers and Activities, the Center for the Arts and for support of various student organization programming activities as determined by the Student Budget Board. Organization Name: Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu Club 2014-2015 Funding: $1,395 Mission/Activities: Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is a martial art stemming from nine traditional Japanese ryu, or martial schools. Six of these ryu were originally samurai ryu, while three originated as ninjutsu. These combative ryu date back to as far as the 1200's. The art incorporates unarmed strikes and grappling as well as a variety of weapons. Variations on traditional techniques and concepts are also adapted for use with modern weaponry and situations. This ability to adapt to current weaponry has allowed the art to thrive while maintaining a continual link with its roots. Focus is placed on control of space, timing, and structure, rather than the use of muscle. Organization Name: Bushin Kan Dojo 2014-2015 Funding: $2,061 Mission/Activities: The Bushin-Kan Dojo at Virginia Tech practices Karatedo. Internationally certified instructors provide instruction in classical Japanese martial arts training, martial philosophy, techniques, and katas. Organization Name: Caribbean Student Organization 2014-2015 Funding: $2,725 Mission/Activities: CaribSO is a student-run organization that aims to share the varied and unique cultures of the Caribbean with the Virginia Tech Community, and facilitate the gathering of Caribbean people attending the university.
