was won the Mustang Club of St. Louis and given back to be do-nated to our toy drive. We again held the Fair-lane Club of America mini-meet at our show. The Fairlane Club really hung in for us with spon-sorship and had eleven entrees on this rainy day. We even had two Torino Talladegas Despite the rain, we did have many swap meet and vender booths. Each year we seem to have something unusual. This year, we only had two entrees in the Focus/Fiesta class and both tied for 1st place with an equal number of votes. It was great to see many of our newer members get in-volved and see the workings of a car show. Most people who at-tend car shows have no idea of how much work and money goes into each show. The next years show planning starts right after the current show is complete. We look over problems, look for improvements and set classes for the following year. The park has to be reserved, sponsorship attained, the insurance pur-chased, getting the concession permit, ordering dash plaques and trophies, designing and or-dering car show shirts, getting all of the forms printed, purchasing attendance prizes, setting up the registration and ballot counting setup, and the list goes on and on. Our conces-sions are a project on

it’s own. Sharon Apollo, with the help of Ken Farrar, Bill and Barb Giese and Syl Biermann did a masterful job of coordinating the difficult job of looking for bar-gains and making sure that we

have all that we n e e d . Great job to all of our concession workers.

For the show itself, there are too many to thank but spe-cial kudos go out to our chair-man, Jim Biermann with help from Dan Kelly, Cindy Ahrens, Ron Schodroski, and Syl Bier-mann who did so much to make the show work so well. We also thank Terry Koch and the Simms for bringing their much needed golf carts. Of course, without the

Dave Sin-clair Ford s p o n s o r -ship and all o f ou r class spon-sors, there would not

be a car show. We are so grate-ful to our sponsors for their out-standing support. Thanks to all of you who sold show classes, helped set up on show day, worked classifica-tion, registration, parked cars, manned the grills, worked con-cessions, counted ballots, helped with cleanup and storing the needed items for next years show, and helped out wherever needed. Great job everyone.

OOOO n July 5th, our club traveled to Granite City for the Patriots in the Park car show. Our cara-

van stared a little rocky and only got worse. First, we left our meeting place and managed to leave Craig and Cally Brayton behind which meant they were not able to join us for breakfast at the Apple Tree restaurant. Then, before leaving, our caravan loca-tion, our leader (I won’t mention any names, but his initials are “Jerry Grimmer”) told us all to exit at 203 and go south, just past the railroad over-pass. When we got to Highway 3, our leader ex-ited. Fortunately, Jim Van Nest came to rescue

and kept going straight to the proper exit. We made it to Apple Tree before our leader who was apparently touring beautiful downtown Granite City. The good news is that the show was held on a weekend that had no rain in the forecast. This was

the first weekend since April 11th that had no rain in the forecast. The day was

humid and a little warm, but it was great to not be dodging raindrops. The show had about 80 entries and our club had 16 of them. Most of us were able to park in the shade and 10 of our members went home with a trophy plaque.

WWWW hile a 700-odd-hp version of Ford’s Coyote V-8 isn’t out of the question, the next GT500 could instead borrow the

twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V-6 from the Ford GT, com-plete with its port and direct fuel injection. Good for more than 600 hp, the EcoBoost engine would be mated to a six-speed manual transmis-sion instead of the dual-clutch transaxle featured in the GT supercar. Bet on suspension, braking, and aerodynamic pieces similar to those on the GT350 and GT350R to help keep this powerful pony on the ground. Why it matters. Putting a V-6 in the top dog Mustang would be yet another step forward for Ford which has championed engine downsiz-ing in practical terms, the powertrain would pro-vide the raw performance of its predecessor with-out the weight of a supercharged V-8. And if what we’ve heard of the Ford GT concept is any guide, the V-6 could sound as nasty as any V-8 ‘Stang. Potential Pitfalls. A V-6 GT500 would roy-ally infuriate many Ford diehards. Even if the new car is faster, lighter, and more powerful, the change could be too sudden and alienate those who worship at the eight-cylinder altar.

WWWW hile searching for background photos to use in our car show coverage in this issue, I Googled “J.S. MacDonnell

Park”. I found that Wikipedia had info on the park. What I found interesting was this sentence was listed at the end of their coverage. “Park fa-cilities can be rented for reunions, weddings and other activities. MacDonnell Park has been host to the annual Fords Unlimited Car Show for over 20 years”. Pretty cool! As you know, Don Branson has recently passed. His spouse, Janice, has informed us that she will be selling Don’s 1969 orange Cou-gar Eliminator. We don’t have any details on the car but you can reach Janice at 636-228-4501 or cell, 636-357-8522 if you have interest in the car This month we welcome new member, George Herwig. George resides in Hazelwood and drives a 2007 Mustang GT. Welcome! Our 50-50 winner from our July meeting was Dave Baugh. Dave took home $50. Board of Directors member, Josh John-son, recently viewed this 1964 Dodge truck at a local car show. We don’t normally show Mopars, but what is unusual is the powerplant. You will notice a 5.0 Ford engine in its bay. Just an opin-ion, but looks to be a great engine in a really ugly truck.
