Step into a provocative world of music, theatre and mind-altering art, featuring internationally renowned acts performing across the entire precinct and taking the diverse day and intriguing after-dark world of Chapel Street to a completely unexpected level.

Throughout the day, catch roving performances along Chapel Street; join one of the Art Walks and be surprised by what is in Chapel Street’s backyard; or become mesmorised as our superstar street artist creates the area’s new iconic mural.

Each night from 6:30pm, enter the throbbing heart of the festival in the Main Tent to see two astounding cabarets which have gained world acclaim. Alternatively, running on the same nights as the Main Tent, you can enter the intimate surroundings of the MC Showroom in Prahran to join Australia’s own psycho-siren Leah Shelton in her award-winning show, Terror Australis.

If you’re feeling like a good laugh we’ve got the shows for you. Join Bourgeois & Maurice for their postmodern, postgender world as they traverse their most hilarious, scathing and joyfully cynical show yet. Or laugh along with Adriano Cappelletta in his self-deprecating humour and old school nightclub dancing as he tells his tales of his obstacles on the way to tasting true romance.

Finally, arouse those tastebuds and heighten the sense of smell by joining us for a Dinner in the Dark.

It is with great pride that we launch Chapel Street’s first festival of the arts PROVOCARÉ©.

This festival has been formulated to reflect the essence of what makes Melbourne’s Chapel Street unique.

Throughout the history of Chapel Street, its community has celebrated diversity; challenged social norms of the day; and embraced people from all caste, creed and religion. It is this unique social fabric which makes Chapel Street such an iconic, international destination.

PROVOCARÉ has plenty for all to enjoy.  From visual arts set to challenge; dinners to heighten one’s sensory experience; and live performances which will make you laugh, cry, and question society’s norms. All guaranteed to have you feeling a spectrum of emotions.  

From the designer fashion stores of South Yarra, to the vintage clothing and eclectic cafes of Windsor, world famous street performers will also be dotted along the various parts of our iconic precinct.

Chapel Street is teaming up with local art galleries during PROVOCARÉ to create an ARTWALK for lovers of contemporary art and street art. Over the two consecutive Saturdays of the festival, attendees will discover the art in the galleries and laneways which stretch along Chapel Street through Windsor, Prahran and South Yarra.

The event will begin at the new rooftop sculpture park of MARS Gallery, where guests will see the galleries latest installation of a laser beam projecting to planet Mars. Gallery Director, Andy Dinan will be there to guide guests through this three level gallery displaying works by Jud Wimhurst, Bronek Kozka, and a disturbing video by Simon Pericich which inspires a blend of arousal and disgust.

Along the way, you will discover Windsor’s version of Hoiser Lane, and hear about the history of street art, and why it has become a world-wide phenomenon.

And this is just a teaser of what ARTWALK has in store to provoke, arouse, and challenge…

From July 20-30 EcoCaddy will provide a unique, reliable, and fun service that will allow Chapel Precinct visitors to easily move around one of the most famous streets in the world!  The EcoCaddy fleet of bamboo-bodied rickshaws (hybrid-electric passenger tricycles) are operated by well-trained, fit, courteous and knowledgeable local riders (Caddies). They are faster, cleaner and more charismatic than any other form of public transport offered in Melbourne! See all that the PROVOCARÉ festival of the arts has to offer and hail a ride to dinner or a bar with ease!

EcoCaddy are legally recognised as a bicycle, so they can use our Chapel Steet cycle lanes and go where most other forms of public transport can’t access. This means we are not adding to the problem of congestion and can easily glide through busy Chapel Street at a comparable speed to most other forms of transport, saving you valuable time!

Our EcoCaddy’s are fully-insured, 100% road & safety compliant with Australian Pedal-Assist Standard, Transportation Act and are fitted with approved safety belts. EcoCaddy have gone further to ensure the safety of our Chapel passengers by making it mandatory that riders hold a current drivers license, and complete a rigorous training course and are Senior First Aid trained.

Two siblings, and an unrelated audience stand in a gallery. The Eternity… is a black mass, a misremembering, and a disappearance act. A ritual, a meditation, and a metaphysical operation.

MKA’s Tobias’ and Kerith Manderson-Galvin’s intentions are to contemplate the eternity of the world – the concept has been debated for over a millennia – by philosophers including Aristotle, Philo, Thomas Aquinas.

The Eternity of the World (Parts Missing) is about the start of existence, the permanence of a moment, parallels and conclusions. It’s being held by the difference between what you know, and what is possible. FREE
