While bonding with his family, practicing Chinese, touring historic sites, and feasting on local dishes, Brandon thinks he sees a tiny panda. However, every time he gets close, the panda disappears! Is Brandon imagining this small creature, or is it real? Will Brandon find out before he has to fly back home? Grab a copy of Brandon Goes to Beijing to discover more. Copies of Brandon Goes to Beijing will be available for sale at the Scholastic Book Fair. In addition, Jeanne will be working the Book Fair on Monday, November 4 th , 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. With a little arm-twisting, I am certain Jeanne would be willing to autograph your very-own copy of Brandon Goes to Beijing.

Luca Roch Hernandez In-Memoriam. It is with profound sadness that I inform you that Lucca Roch Hernandez, son of FIDS’s art teacher, Jacqueline Roch, was killed in a car accident in Gainesville, Florida, where he was attending college. The Roch Hernandez family is holding a small memorial service in the interim, but will convene a larger celebration of Lucca’s life in early December, when he would have turned 21. At this time, our collective thoughts and prayers are with Jacqui and her family. We—as a school community—will do something in Lucca’s memory once the family returns from Gainesville. In the interim, personal condolences may be sent to her home:

Jacqueline Roch 439 NE 51st Street Miami, FL 33137

In addition, individual donations in Lucca’s name may be made online at the following link:
