July Updates

Hey everyone! I hope you guys are having a relaxing and pro-

ductive summer! I know its harder to do group activities in the summer, since everyone tends to go off in their own direction. However, I would like to en-courage everyone to start preparing for the new school year, and thinking of new volunteer opportunities! Summer is almost over, so that means we need to

get ready to gear up for some serious CKI business. This is also a good time

Service

to start thinking of ways to get some new recruits for your chapters! Try talking with some of your current members, and see what drew them in, and go from there! I will also be working on details for Fall Rally for the Hill Country Division, so be on the look-out for that! I will be sending out detailed emails to chapter Presi-dents and Secretaries, so be sure to check those emails! For now, enjoy the rest of your summer everyone, because school is about to be in session! Also, I would like to point out that this newsletter will not be the typi-cal 5 or 6 page newsletter, but rather a special “Spotlight Summer Edition” newsletter! —So enjoy! :)

Okay folks, I said this was going to be a spotlight addition, so here it is! This summer’s special addition newsletter goes out to the University of Texas in Austin! I believe they deserve a round of applause for all of their hard work this summer. I believe a little extra appreciation is due where it is earned! I just want to add a personal thank you ,and say how much it makes my heart happy to see these guys build up their fellowship hardcore this summer! So who better to recap their sum-mer progress for this year, other than Ms. Cortney Ferris! Without further-a-do, here is their story: “UT CKI members have been hard at work trying to recruit incoming Freshman. During the 6 week orienta-tion program, current members tabled, and were able to solicit over 200 names and contact info from interested Fresh-man. Apart from tabling, members vol-unteered in many projects. Mayank Pa-tel was the member with the highest number of volunteer hours, bringing in 81 hours for the month of July! Con-grats to Mayank! Christina Zavala, Car-los Rodriguez, Abigail Paz, and Cortney Ferris also contributed hours! Together

they brought in 40 hours of community service! With the start of school quickly approaching, the Officers have been at work trying to plan the up-coming year. They are absolutely excited about what this next year is going to bring. Just this month alone, three new service projects have been discussed for this school year! Overall, July might not have brought in as many service hours as they'd had hoped for, but it did bring in many new ideas for when school starts! Living to Serve, Loving to Serve; Even in the hot summer months! Hook 'em!”

The UT Experience! ICON and LSSP

This year, several members of the University of Texas in Austin chapter were able to attend LSSP and ICON. The UT chapter was gracious enough to provide us with their recap on the experience, so please enjoy! “The University Of Texas Chapter Of Circle

K International recently had the phenomenal oppor-

tunity of attending the International Convention in

Virginia Beach, Virginia. Five members were able

to make the trip to the convention. All arriving

around the 19th of June, each member participated in

the Large Scale Service Project (LSSP). There were

around 150 CKI members in attendance. Communi-

ty Service projects were planned all around the city

of VA Beach, and surrounding areas. Projects in-

cluded a State Park and Beach clean-up, helping out

at the local Susan G. Koman foundation, doing nu-

merous house-keeping projects for the YMCA, and

landscaping for a Runaway Safe House. During the

two days of service, each member devoted 20 hours

of service to the host community. UT Vice President

Mayank Patel stated that “Going to LSSP this year

allowed me the great opportunity to serve, learn

more about our international organization, and make

friendships with fellow CKI members from far and

abroad. This was an eye opening experience because

it allowed me to grasp the impact that we have on

communities all around the world through our love

and desire to serve others.” After LSSP came to a

close, the opening session of International Conven-

tion kicked off. The two delegates for UT Austin

were Vice President Mayank Patel, and Secretary

Cortney Ferris. Donnesh Amrollah and Chris Hester

were also Delegates at Large. ICON was all about

the business of CKI. Bylaws had to be amended and

elections had to take place. With the recent removal

of “no confidence” from our ballots, CKI members

were outraged over how this decision had been han-

dled. Amrollah and Hester proposed an amendment

that would allow “no confidence” to be placed back

on CKI ballots. The amendment passed, and “no

confidence” was placed back on the ballots. During

the two HOD’s, Texas-Oklahoma’s own Steven

Spriggs from Tx A&M was elected International

President, and West Tx A&M’s Lauren Perkins was

named Subregion D representative. After two

House of Delegates sessions, most of the delegates

were tired of all the politics, and ready to experi-

ence VA Beach a few more hours. UT CKI joined

the rest of the Texas-Oklahoma district, and went to

the Boardwalk for a much needed break. Shopping,

Ice Cream, and Souvenirs awaited! UT Secretary

Cortney Ferris reported “It was an amazing once in

a lifetime experience and I’m so happy that I had

the opportunity to attend! I met people all the way

from Canada to Florida, California to New York! It

was tons of fun, and next year I will have the op-

portunity to do the same thing in New Orleans!”
