Musical Heart Strings is a professional string ensemble that has been per-forming together for over twelve years. Offering an eclectic and extensive repertoire, we perform everything from classical, contemporary pop, jazz, oldies, rock & roll to heavy metal. Influenced by the Vitamin String Quartet, we arrange most of the music ourselves and provide exclusive covers performed only by Musical Heart Strings.

Composer, Arranger, Orchestrator and Keyboardist, Steve McQuarry focuses on original compositions and arrangements which are considered to be a culmi-nation of his 30-year musical journey that has gleamed insight from a variety of artist from Dizzy Gillespie and Red Rodney to the boundary pushing sonic explores John Cage and Laurie Anderson. Resonance combines jazz improvi-sational imperative with the fine acoustic dynamics of chamber music and the frisson of contemporary classical experimentation.

Years ago, Bill concluded, just as did David Wilson (another record-ing engineer, nowowner/designer for Wilson Audio) that no existing speaker was good enough to meet his needs, and designed, as did Wilson, very special loudspeakers for his own studio use. Arkana Physical Research LLC uses rare metal conductors which provide perfect char-acteristics of phase and frequency components of audio signal. Having recently attended a large audio show, I took the opportunity to experience differ-ent manufacturers, and tried to honestly assess what separates us from the rest. Show conditions are difficult at best, and what people “hear” is influenced by many factors so I suppressed the nausea that bad music and lighting induce and tried to focus on sound. I certainly had my favorites, but what I left with is how wonderful it all was. From big to small, lavish to budget, there wasn’t much that I thought sounded awful.

While horn speakers tend to be rather polarizing, many music lovers prefer the sound and I believe ours perform with the best of them. Using legendary, vintage, collectible components is part of our success, but the timeless beauty of our creations is what separates us. We don’t install our horns, we display them as art should be.

Although the Voice Of The Theater was one of the most successful loudspeakers ever, the design affords us artistic opportunities that rivals its audio performance. We believe they look as beautiful as they sound.

The focus of the Seminar will be the speaker/room interface and optimizing system performance. A slide presentation will demonstrate the frequency and phase re-

sponse of speakers placed properly and improperly in a room. Integrating subwoof-ers with the main speaker system for both stereo and surrounds systems will be

covered as time allows.

There will be a discussion as to what types of acoustic treatments to use a room and how to determine where those treatments will best serve the listener. Slide

examples will be shown exhibiting results from proper use of acoustic treatments. Equalization techniques will also be covered.

All of the above topics will include discussions on how to avoid making common

mistakes. The presentation will consist primarily of frequency response charts with a few talking pointsin between. There will be ample time devoted to Q&A.

Since 1993 Bob Hodas has traveled the world tuning well over 1000 rooms. His clients include studio owners, producers, engineers, and discriminating home

listeners. Hit mixer David Pensado, mastering engineer Paul Stubblebine, composer Danny Elfman, and recording artist Stevie Wonder are among his many clients who

demand accurate listening environments and exceptional speaker systems. His work has taken him from Tokyo, for Sony Music Entertainment, to London for Abbey
