PRESIDENT’S REPORT OCTOBER 2018

Hi Fellow Lions,

First of all, on behalf of the Members I extend our Deepest Sympathy to Lion Lou Debono, with the

recent passing of his father and also to Lions Michelle and Ollie Henderson with the passing of

Michelle’s step-father. We are sorry to hear of your loss.

An overview of the happenings during the last month:

Monday 24th September – Cammeray Public School Band gave a band recital at the Market Place.

Following the recital, the Band presented a cheque for $620.00 to the Wagga Wagga South Lions, to

go towards the District Drought Relief fund. Barry and Jenny Briggs, Richard and Jan Leonard and Di

and myself were in attendance for this presentation.

Wednesday 10th October – Bunnings sponsored a BBQ Breakfast for World Mental Health Day. Over

1300 people attended the breakfast. Richard, Michelle, Ollie, Di and myself assisted Riverina Bluebell

with their BBQ for this event from 7:00 am to 8:30 am. This was also the day our Club was rostered

at Bunnings to tend the usual Bunnings BBQ from 9:00am to 4:00 pm. Thank you to Kevin, Barry,

Owen, John, Bruce, Alex, Russell, Michelle, Ollie and Di for helping out on this busy day.

A few notes from our recent Board Meeting:

Leisure Company – They were successful with their application for a grant from the NSW/ACT Save

Sight and Health Care Ltd and their cheque will be presented to them shortly, for the equipment

purchase.

“Hildasid” Project- We are still sourcing more quotes for different types of floor covering for the

shed.

Riverina Conservatorium of Music: The Board has approved a donation of $1200.00 towards the

2019 Scholarship program

Volunteers Grants Program – Owen has advised he has completed and submitted an application for

a grant for the Club. It was a rather lengthy process. Many thanks to Owen for his generous time

and effort .

Doll Raffle – Tickets are now on sale. The following dates have been booked at the Market Place for

the sale of Tickets- Saturdays 13th ,20th and 27th October , 3rd and 24th November. Proceeds of the

raffle will be donated to the “Riding for the Disabled” . Books are also available for members to take

and sell to family and friends. Please contact Michelle for a book to sell.

Estella Progress Association Christmas Party – The Progress Association has confirmed the date to

be Saturday 24th November. Our assistance will be required from 4:00-7:00pm. Names on the roster,

so far, for this event are Noeline, Andrew, Greg, Ollie and Michelle.

Upcoming Events:

Wednesday 14th November – 1st Vice District Governor Peter Bright and Lions Lady Elaine Bright will

be visiting our Club for our Dinner Meeting. This will be a PARTNER’S NIGHT, so please bring your

partner along , as VDG Peter and Lion Elaine are keen to meet members and partners. PLEASE LET DI

KNOW BY 10:00am on Wednesday 14th IF YOUR PARTNER WILL BE ATTENDING the dinner as well.

Christmas Cakes- Cakes will arrive shortly for distribution and the selling of the Cakes at the Market

Place will commence from the end of November. A roster will be circulated shortly.

Once again, to those members and partners who have not been well or have undergone surgery

recently, I hope you are feeling better and well on the road to recovery.

Yours in Lions

Bob

CSU SUCCESS

As a direct result of the War on Waste in 2017, CSU set up a program to reduce our output of non-recyclable coffee

cups (previous a-empts had failed) by offering a discount for the use of BYO cups. In less than 12 months, the use of

‘keep cups’ by staff and students across all campuses saw the removal of 80,000 (yes, eighty thousand!) single use

ups removed from the waste stream!! A 50% reduc on!

Simple but effecve cleaner:

500mLs vinegar (cheap)

500mLs water

2 caps of eucalyptus oil (pure eucalyptus oil only – lasts ages!)

A few drops of dishwashing liquid.

Mix all ingredients together in a spray bo-le, shake well prior to use. Spray on, clean as usual, then wipe off with a

clean cloth ( les and mirrors only). Outstanding results on benchtops, cupboards, glass, lino, les, door of fridges,

washing machines etc.
