Case Study Macintyre Housing Association Conversions of an Office into a One Bedroom Self-Contained Apartment Macintyre Housing Association works in partnership with various care providers to deliver specialist housing services to adults who need support. Macintyre saw an opportunity to convert a vacant office with shower room facilities into a fully self-contained one bedroom apartment. The objective was to introduce another apartment to their housing stock that could provide a tenant with a sense of independence before becoming fully rehabilitated. Following a successful tender bid, FSG was awarded the project and completed all the work required over a 4 week period. The conversion involved removal of all existing facilities to strip it back to its shell, structural alterations and installation of new facilities. In line with the new layout we performed a complete electrical rewire, central heating upgrade and moved the existing megaflow (cylinder). A new drainage system was also integrated to accommodate the new kitchen and bathroom. Relocating the megaflow was a project in itself. It was originally stored in the upstairs office and with the new layout needed to be moved to the main area of the complex with a secure storage unit. Large amounts of renewing pipework was required, which meant we had to create a schedule of works to limit disruption to care workers and residents in the area. Structural alterations were made to create an open lounge with connecting kitchen and cupboards were built throughout for storage. The large cupboard that previously held the megaflow was converted into the bathroom. We installed a new toilet, basin, shower and velux window to allow for natural light. The existing shower room then became the new bedroom and we installed a new window to suit. The FSG team went on to lay insulated flooring and carried out all plastering, tiling, painting and decorating works required. A new front door with glass panels was made by one of our experienced carpenters to match the neighbours and installed for added security.
