Sites - Overview

● It's free.● It's easy to create. ● You can collaborate with others ● It is integrated with other Google tools ● The site is searchable using Google Search technology● All versions of your pages are saved ● You determine who has access to your site and what they see and

do● Users can subscribe to monitor changes to your site● Your site is stored on Google's secure servers.


Accessing Google Sites

Once you are logged into your District Google account, go to “sites.google.com”


Creating Your Site

Click the “Create” button to begin creating your site.


Name your site

● Enter a name for your site in the “Name your site” field

● The URL or address will be generated below


Choose a Theme

● Click the “Select a theme” link to select a theme for your site

● Themes can be changed at any time


More Options● Click the “More

options” link● You can enter a

category for your site and a description

● These support Google search technology


Create Your Site

● Scroll to the top and press “Create”

● You will see a message that your site is being created

Inserting an Image● Add images from your

hard drive or directly from a website if you have the URL

● Alt text is a short description of the image

● The “Format” menu allows options to format text including alignment and headings.


Table Menu

● Configure tables using this menu tab


Layout Menu

● This menu allows you to change the organization of your site.


Help Menu

● From this menu you can get help or find keyboard shortcuts.

Adding a Page


New page Settings

● Name your new page. The URL of this page is shown below.

● Choose where your page will go in the hierarchy of the site.


Pages on Top Level

● Choosing “Put at the top level” will create a tab along the top as a main topic.


Pages Under Home Page

Choosing “Put page under Home” will make the page a subpage of the Home page.


Site Settings

● From Site Settings you can o see the revision historyo move pageso copy pageso print pageso delete pageso edit the site layouto manage the siteo set sharing permissions

● Ability to change the current page’s URL

● Adjust other settings for the page.

● Displays your page as an end user would view it
