How this Workbook is Organized In this Course Introduction you will find lists of skill standards for each MOS exam the Office 2003 courses cover, an outline of each course, and several sample lesson plans for each course. These are included to give you an overview of the training content and to help you structure your lesson plans. The rest of this workbook is divided into five sections: Word 2003, Excel 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Outlook 2003, and Access 2003. Each course is further divided into three to five sessions. The exercises in this workbook are intended to supplement your students’ learning. These exercises have been constructed with the exam skill standards in mind and will greatly aid your students in their content retention and certification preparation. The exercises in this workbook include the following:

• Fill-in-the-Blank Exercise – The student completes a comprehensive fill-in-the-

blank exercise while watching each session of the training. Each Fill-in-the-Blank Exercise follows the instructor's lecture and can be used as a review for the Quiz, training Pre-Tests and Post-Tests, and certification exams.

• Glossary Crossword and Glossary Word Search – The terms used in these puzzles are taken directly from each course's glossary. The puzzles are intended to help your students become more familiar with common terminology.

• Short Essay – Each session includes short writing exercises that require students to explain in their own words a key aspect of the training. This helps them hone their understanding of key topics.

The Drafts folder contains copies of e-mail messages that have not yet been sent because they are incomplete or not yet ready to be sent. The Sent Items folder contains copies of e-mail messages that have already been sent.

HTML HTML format allows for sending graphical e-mail messages. It

uses a system of markup tags to send text and images.

Plain text Plain text e-mail messages send e-mail in unformatted text.

Rich text Rich text e-mail messages allow for formatting all text within the message, including formatting font size, type, and color.

3. Describe the difference between a signature and stationery. [Global E-mail

A signature is text that can be added to the end of every outgoing e-mail message. Signatures usually include the sender’s name and contact information. Stationery is pre-formatted e-mail that includes graphics, font formatting, and other images as a part of the e-mail message itself. Different styles of stationery exist with different themes.

Instructions: Divide into groups and have each group select one of the following subjects to research. Each group should prepare a short 5-minute presentation of the information researched to be given in class.

1. Access is not the only database program in today’s high-tech world. FileMaker Pro is a competitor to Access that offers much of the same functionality and features as Access. Research FileMaker Pro and compare and contrast the two programs. What are some functions and features that FileMaker Pro shares with Access? What are some functions and features offered by FileMaker Pro that are NOT offered by Access? Of the two, which do you feel is the more powerful database application and why?

2. Using the Internet, find two examples of a flat database application and two

examples of a relational database program (excluding Access). Describe these applications and what they are used for, answering the following question:

• Which of these applications would be best suited for a large database with

many records?

• Which would be best suited for an Internet-related or e-commerce database?

• Which would be best suited for use at home?

3. Macros are a powerful tool used to automate repetitive actions. Macros are available not only in Access but also in all Microsoft Office applications. Using the Internet, research macros and how they are created in Access. Then, research how they are created in Word or Excel. Is the process the same among all of the programs? If they differ, how are they different? Describe the process of creating and using a macro in Access, and find some helpful tips that will make the tricky process of creating a macro easier for your peers to understand. Share these tips with the class.
