@Staines_Dental The-Staines-Centre-of-Dental-Excellence01784 466 [email protected]

We are delighted to welcome our new dentist Dr Yasmin George, to our team at The Staines Centre of Dental Excellence.

Yasmin qualified in 1988 from Guys Hospital Dental School in London. Since then she has worked in general practice, which means she has had a great deal of experience in many different areas of dentistry, treating patients from all walks of life.

Yasmin has been involved in cosmetic dentistry for many years and finds it one of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of being a dentist. She never tires of seeing how happy patients look when they've achieved their perfect smile, and is proud that what she does can actually help someone grow in confidence or smile for the first time with their teeth on show.

Yasmin believes that her patients should make informed choices about their treatment, so she provides as much information as possible and always tries to be both honest and realistic. She is also committed to team building and staff development, and believes in 'relationship based' dentistry. This means taking the time to get to know her patients so she can best advise, help and treat them.

Yasmin has a particular interest in orthodontics for both adults and children.

For adults her treatment skills include "invisible" braces such as those fitted to the inside of the teeth, (lingual braces) or those made of transparent materials such as Invisalign. Yasmin also has considerable experience with Damon braces for adults and can do 'limited' or partial treatment options; these are often popular with adults as treatment is quicker.

For children she is passionate about the need to be assessed and where appropriate, treat early, also to take into consideration the development of the whole face. If you're a parent, you may also be pleased to know that she has two sons so she fully understands how important your children's teeth are to you, and how difficult it can be to make sure they clean their teeth properly and avoid eating too many sweets!

Yasmin is a nervous patient. If, like her, you are particularly anxious about visiting the dentist then as a Dental Phobia Certified dentist Yasmin can offer you the latest sedation techniques helping you to conquer your fears, when you're ready to, at your own pace.

Throughout her career Yasmin has taken every opportunity to develop her skills. This has included taking many training courses and attending conferences in the UK and abroad; joining and serving in a number of Dental Academies, Associations and Societies; teaching at King's College Faculty of Dentistry, at the Pankey Institute in Florida, and sitting on the Panel of Examiners for the Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing and the National Examination Board for Dental Nurses. Most recently she has been involved in the development of continuing education in orthodontics for general dentists, working with internationally recognised orthodontic specialist and educator Dr Derek Mahony, BPP University and the Academy of Dental Excellence (ADE).

Welcometo ournewsletter

When Arthur Kemsley came to us two years ago he faced wearing dentures for the rest of his life. After a consultation with Dr Anmol Chander, Arthur was presented with an alternative that would give him back the natural functionality and appearance of his teeth – dental implants.''It is safe to say that my teeth were in a very bad state. So bad in fact that it was causing me issues when eating and I also felt embarrassed to smile and even hold a conversation. Something had to be done. I was recommended to the practice by my daughter who spoke very highly of the team and treatment she had received.”

People can lose teeth for many different reasons, whether after an accident, through decay, or simply age, but the impact on their life can be traumatic. Previously, a bridge or a denture were the most popular ways to replace missing teeth, however, they are not always an ideal solution and can make eating uncomfortable or people self-conscious of their smile. Nowadays, dental implants have become a much more favoured option because this advanced treatment effectively replaces the root of a tooth, giving a more natural outcome in terms of functionality and aesthetics.

Dental implants have been used for over 30 years to replace missing teeth, offering a long-term solution and a host of benefits to patients. Implant treatment can slowdown bone loss, preserve healthy tissue and help maintain jaw shape. Bone loss is a problem for people who have dentures as the shape of the jaw slowly changes and the dentures need to be adjusted or

re-made to fit the new shape of the jaw. Bone loss can also make a person look older since the area around the mouth can sag. Anmol recommended an implant-supported fixed bridge for Arthur to replace his existing dentures and give him back his natural smile. A dental implant is anchored into your jaw, so a crown or over denture is securely supported. Implants are made from titanium, a material that is bio-compatible with your body and easily integrates with your bone tissue. After the implant has been placed, there is a healing period of six to eight weeks while the implant integrates with your body tissues, then you return to the practice for the restoration to be completed. Once dental implants are fully integrated into your jaw they function just as well as your own natural teeth. This means you can eat the foods you enjoy, speak and smile with confidence.

Traditionally an implant is placed into your jaw and supports a single crown, known as single tooth implant. However, one implant may be able to support several teeth via a bridge or a denture.

Arthur’s treatment involved an implant-supported fixed bridge.

Afterwards Arthur said the end result was “fantastic”, and he is “no longer embarrassed to smile”.

Arthur said: “From the very start Anmol was very patient and took time to explain all the options available to me and together we decided that dental implants would be the way forward. I began a series of appointments which spanned just over a year due to the amount of work involved and healing time. At each stage of the process I was kept fully informed of what was happening and what would happen next. “Anmol- I really can't thank you and the team enough for your brilliant work and the exceptional level of care that you have shown me. “Your front of house reception team, Vander and Jess are a real asset to the practice. They have a wonderful sense of humour whilst maintaining a professional, kind and caring relationship with the patient. This really helps when you have just had all your teeth taken out!”

Can you really implant happiness?

Before any treatment at The Staines Centre of Dental Excellence we complete a comprehensive assessment with you. Dr Anmol Chander is our resident expert implant dentist. He has completed the diploma in Implant Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has been awarded the highly regarded Advanced Certificate in Bone Grafting.

Over the past ten years he has placed many dental implants and is now a mentor for other practitioners, assisting with implant procedures in other surgeries.

For more information about dental implants contact us today or speak to your dentist at your next appointment!

Are you scared of the dentist?Help may be at hand...Have you been putting off visiting your dentist out of fear of the treatment or the sound of the dentist’s drill? Have you ever found yourself saying “I can’t sleep for days before a dental appointment” or “The thought of an injection in my mouth terrifies me”? Do you feel that no one understands just how nervous you really are?

We often hear these concerns from patients who seek our care and you are certainly not alone. Dental anxiety is a common problem and affects people of all ages and from all walks of life. For some, this fear means they will try everything possible to avoid seeking dental care, even if they are in pain.

At The Staines Centre of Dental Excellence we offer anxious or dental phobic patients the option of conscious sedation to help overcome their fears and make treatment a more pleasant experience. It is effective, predictable and very safe, and as well as helping the most nervous of patients in routine treatments, it is also used to help others undergo more complex or prolonged treatment sessions.

Sedation at The Staines Centre of DentalExcellence is administered by a specially trained dentist and assisted by a nurse who has also had training in conscious sedation. Although you will not be completely unconscious, many patients sleep through their

dental appointment and you will have little or no memory of the procedure. We have state-of-the-art equipment to monitor your heart rate, pulse and blood pressure throughout treatment and recovery is generally quick and uneventful.

After treatment you will be able to relax in our comfortable, purpose-built recovery area at the practice until your dentist is happy for you to go home. You will need to be accompanied home by an adult family member or friend as the feeling of drowsiness can last for up to eight hours and you will not be able to drive until the sedation has worn off.

Don’t let the fear of the dentist ruin your healthy smile. Call us on 01784 466 325 and find out how our specially trained dental team can help you overcome your fears and give you the best dental treatment that you deserve.

Here at The Staines Centre of Dental Excellence we strive to make visiting the dentist as straightforward and stress-free as possible. That’s why we have invested in CEREC®, offering a multitude of benefits to our patients.

CEREC® enables us to carry out restorative treatments including crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays in just a single visit. The digital laser effectively scans the mouth and teeth, removing the need for uncomfortable impressions to be taken. The image is then used to create a natural-looking replacement that exactly fits your missing tooth.

Developed at Zurich University, CEREC® procedures have been successfully used in dental practices since 1985. Worldwide, CEREC® is used in 25,000 practices across 50

countries. In the past three decades more than eight million patients have been treated using CEREC® and more than 20 million ceramic replacement teeth have been created using this technology.

CEREC® is a fast and effective treatment for patients who want to replace a missing or damaged tooth or teeth, in the optimum time. Because the entire procedure is carried out in one visit, there is no need to wear a temporary crown or filling whilst waiting for the replacement to be made in the traditional way at an off-site laboratory.

After removing any decayed tissue or defective amalgam filling your dentist will take a painless 3D scan of the tooth and surrounding area using the CEREC® camera. The scan is then transferred to the computer where the restoration is designed to exactly the right specification and fit using advanced computer software. The restoration is milled on site while you wait, or watch if you prefer, and is then fitted.

The 3D images are crystal clear and are a

great way to explain to patients what the treatment will involve. Patients can choose to watch the entire procedure or relax in the waiting room reading newspapers, magazines or checking emails.

We use a specially designed ceramic material to create your restoration and carefully match it to the shade of your surrounding teeth, restoring natural strength, beauty and function. These restorations are strong enough to be used on any tooth, including back teeth. Long-term ongoing clinical studies show CEREC® restorations are highly durable and if cared for correctly, can last a long time.

For more information about CEREC® contact us today or speak to your dentist!

I have been a patient at the Staines Centre of Dental Excellence for a number of years, enjoying excellent dental care and advice. Whilst I am fortunate in having teeth which have never decayed or needed any fillings, I do suffer badly with staining from tea and coffee. Regular visits to the hygienist take care of this, and I was offered the chance to be one of the first patients to take advantage of the latest Diamond Clean air polishing service. What an amazing result! All of the stains and discolouration have gone, whilst the process was much less painful and also quicker than conventional polishing. I have booked my next appointment and thoroughly recommend the Diamond Clean Service”Hugh Wright

The Staines Centre of Dental Excellence can now offer the Diamond Clean Service. The equipment is designed to use a stream of fine powder particles (PROPHYpearls) to gently polish away stubborn stains off teeth and is a pain free treatment.

Using “PROPHYpearls” we can remove soft plaque, discoloration, and staining safely and effectively. It is less abrasive than scaling and kinder to the teeth. This allows us to achieve outstanding results instantly, faster than scaling alone, thereby reducing the time you spend in the dental chair without discomfort. It is perfect also for removing smokers stains.

Stay young, feel youngWe understand you want to look your best, and why shouldn’t you? You may have a special event coming up, a party, a wedding, or you may just want a little help to smooth out those wrinkles to give yourself a confidence boost. Whatever the reason, we offer a host of non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments to help you look and feel your best at all times.

One of the most effective ways to improve your appearance and look younger is to smooth out lines and wrinkles. We offer two safe and proven treatments, botulinum toxin (Botox) and dermal fillers.

Botulinum toxin (Botox)Botulinum toxin is a safe and effective treatment that has been used for more than 25 years. It is a type of purified protein and a tiny amount is injected directly into facial muscles effectively making them less active and thereby softening the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Patients tend to see a difference after just one treatment and the effects can last up to four months. This safe and straightforward procedure can even be performed in your lunch hour, and will leave your face looking natural and more relaxed. Botulinum toxin is an excellent way to help smooth lines, is great for foreheads and the sensitive area around the eyes.

Dermal fillersWe use dermal fillers to reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles and revitalise the skin, while improving contour and creating volume. Dermal fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally exists in your body. The soft, non-animal based, synthetic hyaluronic acid gel is injected into the skin where it gets to work boosting the skin’s own supply of hyaluronic acid and effectively smoothing over, filling and plumping out lines to give a more youthful appearance.

As the skin ages, it loses collagen and fat, and causes the skin to sag and develop lines. Hyaluronic acid plays an important part in replenishing and moisturising the skin and returning its elasticity and tone.

Dermal fillers are long lasting but not permanent; although a single treatment can last between six and 12 months, depending on your lifestyle, skin type or age. Fillers give a natural look and do not affect facial expression.

Dermal fillers are perfect for lip and mouth creases, eyes, brows and deep lines, while nose to mouth lines can also be improved. Fillers can also add shape and fullness to your lips, to give you an instantly rejuvenated look.

We strongly recommend you always have these treatments carried out by a qualified professional to ensure the procedure is successful and leaves no imbalance of the face, such as uneven eyebrows or drooping of eyelids or eyebrows.

Because every face is unique, all our patients will undergo a full consultation with our expert who will advise on the best procedure for you. Before we perform any treatment, we will talk you through every step and inform you of any possible side effects, so you are fully prepared.

How to tell if your child may need early orthodontic treatment:• Early or late loss of baby teeth (your child should typically start losing teeth around age five, and will have all their permanent teeth around age 13)• Difficulty chewing and/or biting• Mouth breathing• Your child continues sucking their thumb after age 5• Speech impediments• Protruding teeth (the top teeth and the bottom teeth extend away from each other)• Teeth that don't come together in a normal manner or even at all• Shifting of the jaw when your child opens or closes their mouth (crossbites)• Crowded front teeth around age seven or eight

What causes orthodontic problems, and how will early prevention benefit my child?Orthodontic problems such as crowding of the teeth, too much space between the teeth, jaw growth problems, protruding teeth, and bad bites can be inherited or caused by injury to the mouth, early or late loss of baby teeth, or thumb sucking habits.

Most children lose all their baby teeth by age 13, and by the end of their teen years, the jaw bones will harden and stop growing. Orthodontic procedures for adults often take more time and can involve tooth extraction or oral surgery. Receiving early orthodontic treatment as a child can help prevent the need for orthodontics as an adult, leaving little to no chance of extraction or surgery in the future.

If your child is between the ages of seven and eight and shows signs of needing orthodontic care, or if you have been directed by your family dentist to visit the orthodontist, please contact our practice and schedule an appointment. Our team will provide your child with an initial exam, and discuss with you the best steps to take toward caring for your child's smile.

Why should children have an orthodontic screening no later than age 7?The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have an initial orthodontic screening by the age of 7, as by this age all of the permanent incisors (front teeth) as well as the permanent first molars should have erupted. If inadequate space exists, some of these teeth could become impacted. An evaluation at this time helps identify problems with eruptions. Also at this time, we can evaluate growth discrepancies of the jaws, crossbites (when upper teeth hit inside the lower teeth), crowding, and the

development of injury-prone dental protrusions. An early orthodontic screening enables us to advise you if treatment will even be necessary, and if so, determine the best time for your child to be treated. There is no charge for an initial examination or for supervision reassessment examinations.

What are the benefits of an early evaluation and possible treatment? For young patients who have clear indications for early orthodontic intervention, this type of treatment presents an opportunity to:• Guide the growth of the jaws• Regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches• Guide erupting permanent teeth to desirable positions• Lower the risk of traumatic injury to protruded upper incisors (front teeth)• Help eliminate harmful oral habits such as thumb or finger sucking which can cause openbites• Reduce or eliminate abnormal swallowing or some speech problems• Improve personal appearance and self-esteem• Potentially simplify and/or shorten treatment time for later comprehensive orthodontics• Reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth (teeth that should have come in, but have not), and preserve or gain space for permanent teeth that are appearing

When should my child have orthodontic treatment? Most parents want the best for their child: straight teeth, properly sized jaws, a good profile and a broad, beautiful, beaming smile. It is important that your dentist monitors that teeth, gums, jaws and bite develop properly, and the earlier your child is checked, the more likely these situations are to be identified.

Due to advances in knowledge and techniques Dr Yasmin George is able to detect potential problems from as early as age five and early treatment may prevent more serious problems

from developing, or make future treatment less complicated and less lengthy.

In many cases the best results are obtained between the ages of seven and thirteen while the child is still growing; some results may not be achievable once facial growth has finished. However, advances in modern orthodontics have made the treatment much less likely to involve extracting teeth. In the past it was thought necessary to remove teeth to "make room" for the remaining teeth to fit side by side when newly aligned in what had been a crowded jaw. We now understand how to widen the palate and broaden the jaw, making room for all the teeth and creating broad, natural and attractive smiles. These techniques, often referred to as Functional Jaw Orthopaedics, are of course most effective when the jaw and palate are still growing..

If you are unhappy or concerned about your child's dental development and you are being advised that at age 6 or older, no treatment is possible then it is worth getting advice from Yasmin at The Staines Centre of Dental Excellence

A free initial consultation is available and Dr Yasmin George has treated many youngsters with results that they and their parents are delighted with.In cases where an inappropriate habit is causing the problem, unless the habit is addressed, moving the teeth back into the correct positions will be a waste of time as the habit will immediately force them out of position again. As a first step Yasmin can assess this and recommend specialists to address breathing problems, retrain tongue movements, and supply thumb- and finger-guards to prevent thumb sucking.

Once the inappropriate habit is removed, teeth can be moved gently over time into the correct positions by means of orthodontic braces and other appliances if necessary. After the active phase of tooth movement a retainer of some sort will be needed to hold the teeth in their correct positions and ensure long-term stability.

Early treatment (also known as Phase-One) typically begins around age eight or nine (Phase-Two will begin around age 11 or older). The goal of early treatment is to correct the growth of the jaw and certain bite problems, such as underbite.

Early treatment also helps to make room for permanent teeth to come in properly, lessening the chance of extractions in the future.

Botulinum Toxin They say that you’re as young as you feel, but wouldn’t it be nice to look in the mirror and see a face that reflects this, even if you’ve had a late night the night before! As we get older, nature can sometimes need a little helping hand and that’s where non-surgical facial treatment can work wonders. You deserve to look and feel at your very best and we’re here to help you achieve that in a virtually pain free manner. One of the most effective ways to improve your appearance and look younger is to smooth out those tell-tale lines and wrinkles. We can help you achieve the results you want, using the very latest products and techniques. Wrinkles can be smoothed out using Botulinum Toxin, this has safely and effectively been used for over 25 years. Areas this can be used on include forehead, crow’s feet (laughter lines), glabella (vertical lines above nose), upper lip, and some other areas.

This is a straightforward procedure so you can even visit us in your lunch hour! The Botulinum Toxin is administered gently and painlessly into the areas where it is needed, so it can get to work smoothing out those lines and wrinkles. It usually takes around 7 - 14 days to see the full effects of each treatment, with results lasting up to 4 months.

Dermal Fillers Dermal fillers are used for facial aesthetic treatment and are injected into the skin. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume, and to revitalise the skin.

Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers revitalise and add volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look. Dermal filler injections provide an easy way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, smooth the skin and give a more youthful appearance. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and can last for around 6 - 12 months. The filler injections give a natural looking result that does not affect facial expression. Dermal fillers can be used on lots of facial areas such as your eyes - to smooth out crow’s feet, brow - to smooth frown lines between the eyes, mouth - to smooth vertical lines on the top lip, nasal lines - to plump out the deep lines from the nose to the corner of the lips, and lip enhancement - creating fuller, pouting lips or on the lip/skin border to create a more natural lip line.
