Examination of the nominations lodged by sub-Branches for the election of State Council for the period 2011-2014 has now been completed.

It is advised that more than the required number of nominations have been lodged and it will be necessary to decide the issue by ballot. The positions and candidates are detailed below.

Voting is preferential, which requires every box on the ballot paper to be numbered in order of preference. One Vice President per area (Metropolitan, Southern Country and Northern Country) will be elected and the candidate with the highest number of votes in that area will be declared Vice-President in accordance with Clause 31.9 of the Constitution.

Please note that the envelopes provided will be colour coded with coloured dots to correspond with the same colour as the ballot paper for that particular election.

Ballot papers should only be returned in the envelope with the same coloured dot (i.e. YELLOW for State President, PINK for Honorary State Treasurer, BLUE for State Councillor Southern Country, GREEN for State Councillor Northern Country and WHITE for State Councillor Metropolitan).

Please do not enclose any correspondence or material other than ballot papers in the election envelopes.

Ballot papers are to be returned so as to reach the Returning Officer, ANZAC House, 245 Castlereagh Street, Sydney 2000, no later than NOON on Monday 23rd May, 2011.

I have also held the positions of Vice President and Pensions Officer of the Mosman sub-Branch and I have served as the Hon. Secretary and President of Northern Metropolitan District Council.


State Branch Committee Membership and Representation: I have served on the Veterans Affairs Committee, the State Tribunal, the Agenda Committee and the Membership Strategies Committee. External Representation: I represent RSL NSW on the Battle for Australia Committee. I Chair the NSW ESO Committee for Operation Life and am appointed by National as the alternate RSL Director on the board of the Australian Veterans Children Assistance Trust.

Business Skills: 5½ years as National Controller of Distribution, Woolworths Ltd. I was responsible nationally for timely, efficient and cost effective distribution of all sales goods from warehouses and depots to stores. Included in the task was the supervision, design and construction of new facilities and upgrades to meet the ever expanding needs of the company. This was followed by 17 years as General Manager of a specialised construction company with operations in all parts of Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia.

Director Training: In addition to senior management training and experience in the Regular Army, I have completed Woolworths Executive and Senior Executive training conducted by Kepner-Tregoe (USA). I attended the management training for State Councillors. As President of the Mosman Returned Servicemen’s Club I am leading the club board through a strategic review and public attitude survey with a view to determining the correct approach to redevelop or renovate the club to meet community expectations for future success.

training and all aspects of accounting.

Occupation: Retired Australian Federal Police Detective Superintendent.

Military Service: 19th National Service Training Battalion, 3/1956. Then completed National service Training at the RAASC – Katoomba-Lithgow depot in 1960. 1979-1996 Member of the Australian Federal Police based in Sydney serving with the United Nations Civilian Police in Cyprus 1995 to January 1996 as


OIC, 45th Contingent and completing service as the OIC (Lt Col) 45th and 46th Australian Civilian Police Contingents returning to Sydney and retiring at the rank of detective Superintendent.

Campaign Medals, Decorations and Awards: UN Police Overseas Service Medal (Cyprus); Centenary of Federation

Medal 2001; Police National Medal; Australian Defence Medal; Anniversary of National service Medal; United Nations Medal (Cyprus). Awarded Life Membership of The Returned and Services League of Australia in 2008.

League Service: Member of Smith field RSL Club 1966-1987. Joined Bondi Junction-Waverly RSL sub-Branch in 1987 when eligible to become a full member of the League and regularly attended meetings. In March 1996on my return from Cyprus, was elected from the floor as tis Honorary Secretary and still hold the position to this date. I am currently the Assistant Pensions Officer and its Recruitment Officer. In 1997, elected as the Bondi Junction-Waverly sub-Branch alternate delegate and in 1998 delegate to the Eastern Metropolitan District Council and I currently hold that position. In 2001 elected to the position of Eastern Metropolitan State Councillor until 2008 when elected to the position of Metropolitan State Councillor.

Business Skills: Served as a detective from 1959 to 1996 investigating all types of criminal offences including OIC Operations-Bottom of the Harbour fraud investigations, the National Crime Authority drug investigations, Officer in Charge AFP at the Sydney International Airport and various other appointments over some 37 years service. I am the President of the Bondi Junction-Waverly RSL sub-Branch club and have held the position for some 11 years and as such involved with the Board in Strategic and Business planning and providing policy, direction and financial advice to management and ensuring such is complied with. I am sufficiently computer literate to prepare reports and utilise its facilities.

Director Training: I am a member of the ClubsNSW Director Institute and have completed courses and seminars in corporate governance, Club Management etc and have been attending them since the Institutes inception in 2001.Successfully completed a two year AFP management course conducted internally and externally through the University of Canberra. I hold RSA and RSG certificates in the Club Industry. Have attended two pensions Officers courses.

Professional Qualifications/Affiliations: Diploma in Criminology and various certificates from ClubsNSW Directors

Business Skills: Strong communication skills and personnel management. Sound understanding of business administration and technology. Ability to translate financial reports and use this information for business planning and process.

Director Training: Formal management training via subjects 1 & 2 for corporal. Whilst this is my only formal training in this area I am a natural leader and am confident in my ability to be a valued Councillor at an administrative and ground member level.

chemcert certificate, industrial first aid and a member of Canowindra Lodge.
