Before we start …

I am interested in collecting your ideas and impressions.

Please use the form provided to answer the question:

What do you understand by the term ‘open educational resource’ (OER)?

Openness and the OU

• The OU was set up to be ‘open’ - open to people, place, methods, ideas

• Our resources often used in other contexts• OpenLearn draws on that experience and

reflects the OU’s mission• OpenLearn publishes OER – resources

offered for use beyond the original context• These are ‘open’ to being shared

5

So what is OER?

• OER are resources which have ‘open licenses’ attached

• They are ‘free-of-charge’ resources• They are ‘freely available’ resources • Beyond this they advise you what the limits

are to reuse within your own context• They may allow adaptation, repurposing

or remixing (copyright doesn’t do that)

Method A:

Go to Google images and search for ‘job centre’ (26,600 hits, but can you use them?)

Try Flickr.com and search for ‘job interview’ (10,000 hits but can you use the one you want?)
