BRIEF HISTORYBRIEF HISTORYThe organization was born in 1949 as "Oficina de Educación Iberoamericana”Iberoamericana In 1954, it was transformed into an international organization.

In 1985 the Board decided to change the old denomination enlarging theirIn 1985, the Board decided to change the old denomination enlarging their targets to Culture and Science.

Since 1991, OEI has arranged and promoted the conferences of Ministers of Education, as an instance of preparation of Summits of Presidents.

Since 2000 the OEI organize the Ibero-American Conference of Ministers of CultureConference of Ministers of Culture in collaboration with the countries where conferences are held.

STRUCTURE

The organization is governed by a legislative body.g g y g y

It has a consultative organ: the Ibero-American Conference of Education, and Culture

The General Secretary is the permanent executive organ.

It is elected every four years.

The current Secretary is Mr. Paulo Speller of Brazilian nationality, former ex-Secretariat of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education in Brazil
