Every year the programs and services supported by the HOPE Appeal touch

countless lives in every city, town, and rural area in our seven-county diocese. From the

very young to the frail elderly, your gift makes a difference in the lives of so many. As you

know, the Diocese sets our annual Hope Appeal Goal. The goal set for our Parish for 2017 was $41,671.00. As of today, we are $18,497.00 short of meeting our goal. If

we do not meet our goal, we are not allowed to apply for any of the grant money we have received each year, usually $10,000.00. We have used this grant money for the Ecumenical Food Pantry and many programs here in the Parish. If you have not made a contribution or pledge to the Appeal please consider doing so. Please remember if we do not meet our goal, not only are we prohibited from getting grant funding but our Parish must make up any amount we are short – Please help.

ENDOW

Educating on the Nature and Dignity Of Women

Endow’s Letter to Women course is an enriching and eye opening way to learn

what the church really thinks about women and their role in the world today. This group study is

foundational to Endow and is based on Pope John Paul II’s 1995 letter to all women of the world. It

reaffirms the dignity of human persons as it upholds the special place women occupy in the family, the

Church, and the world.

ENDOW starts September 28, 2017 and will meet Thursdays for 6-8 weeks at 7pm in the Church Hall. To register for this course or for more information,

please call Joanne Hettinger at (315) 726-2121.

August 20, 2017 20th Sunday in Ordinary

Time “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall

from the table of their masters.” —Matthew 15:27

Today’s readings could not be more timely, given the political discourse regarding refugees and all

those who are different from us — whether culturally, racially, economically, religiously or in any other way.

In Scripture, we hear these questions: Who are worthy to be God’s people? Who are worthy to

hear the good news? The answers are that Israel is open to all; and the disciples are to be open to all. All are worthy in God’s sight. The message for us

could not be clearer.

Penitential Act Lord Jesus, you were approached for healing by an outsider: Lord, have mercy. Christ Jesus, you had compassion on her, despite the pleas of others: Christ, have mercy. Lord Jesus, you call on us to have compassion on others: Lord, have mercy.

Scripture Reading Isaiah 56:1, 6-7 “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” Psalm 67 O God, let all the nations praise you! Romans 11:13-15, 29-32 Paul is called to bring the good news to the Gentiles. Matthew 15:21-28 Jesus responds to the outsider Canaanite woman.

Holy Father’s Prayer Intentions for August Artists

That artists of our time, through their ingenuity, may help everyone discover the beauty of creation.

Parish Directory Saint Francis is putting together a parish wide

directory with the help of Lifetouch Photography! Time slots for September are available. See the parish

website to sign up or call Vanessa Millet at (315) 515-8280.

Question of the Week For Adults: The woman in this story was persistent in prayer. For what do you pray insistently? For Children: For what do you ask God to give you most often?
