Internationalisation : Definitions

• « Internationalisation of HE is the intentionnal process of integrating an international, intercultural or global dimension into the purpose, functions and delivery of post-secondary education, in order to enhance the quality of education and research for all students and staff, and to make a meaningful contribution to society » (De Witt, 2015)

• « IHE is an ongoing process of change whose objective is to integrate the institution and its key stakeholders (its students and faculty) into a global knowledge economy (Hawamini )

• Conflictual dynamics: on the one hand, internationalization, standardization driven by International Organisations, rankings, on the other the influence of socio-political environments and the need to differentiate on the markets; on one hand, societal and ethical purpose, on the other, a stress on economy.

DERATIONAXE 3 : Third Mission and Catholic Identity

A new trend : towards a new ranking : The social Responsability of Universities

International Centre for Research and Decision-Making (CIRAD)

DEVELOPMENT OF A RANKING REFERENCE SYSTEM

FOR UNIVERSITY SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (USR)

IFCU is working on a unique catholic university ranking system

on an international scale, inspired on Catholic values and

principles, in order to contribute to the positioning of Catholic

universities as responsible communal and social actors within

their societies.

Page 17: ODUCAL FIUC, 2019 de... · Scenario 1: Business as usual Student mobility: OECD UNESCO: 0.6 million in 1975, 2.7 in 2004, 4.1 in 2013 - Risk: migration policies - country risks Scenario

• Offer a panorama of Catholic university policies & practices and their positioning with regardto others;

• Design common guidelines for universities self-assessment of SRU coherent with their Catholiccharacter;

• Encourage Catholic universities to improve both their policies and practices in USR;

• Provide today’s students a socially-engaged environment that will contribute to making themtomorrow’s responsible professionals, citizens and spiritual beings;

• Help Catholic universities strengthen their influence on the national, regional and internationaltertiary landscape, including within international organizations;

• Offer a viable alternative for the university world in general that takes into account differentsocial and cultural walks of life.

PROJECT OBJECTIVESSOCIETY

UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY

Page 18: ODUCAL FIUC, 2019 de... · Scenario 1: Business as usual Student mobility: OECD UNESCO: 0.6 million in 1975, 2.7 in 2004, 4.1 in 2013 - Risk: migration policies - country risks Scenario

A set of criteria have been established by IFCU during the 1st phase of the project.

Despite transversal elements related to each university’s identity and profile in order toestablish the context prior to the evaluation (Catholic identity, size, history, etc.), theframework focuses on 3 main areas:

• Environment

• Social

• Gouvernance

Practices in favor of a socially responsible university should be promoted and encouraged by the entire university community.

“IFCU is developing a global data base of Catholic Universities, as well as a collaborative platform to facilitate Catholic Universities to establish direct contact for collaborative projects that they wish to put in place.”

The project aims to fill a major gap that affects the legitimacy of the IFCU, the knowledge of Catholic Universities, and their visibility at the global level.

The project shall create:

a/ a global database of Catholic Universities;

b/a collaborative platform, moderated by IFCU, allowing Catholic Universities, from the database developed, to submit and share their demands for collaboration.

● Unique tool for building and administering a repository of information about

Catholic universities around the world

● Provide access to updated information and data on a dedicated portal, integrating

a tool for linking institutions, with « a minima » 2 levels of access (members / non-

members)

> IFCU MEMBERS AND PARTNERS:

● Access updated information/data with Search Engine / Mapping

● To be able to update them directly from the portal (with IFCU administration,

moderation and validation)

● To be able to propose collaborative calls / institutional partnerships / Other

cooperative actions / Ressources

• Will concern both the university as a whole and the units (eg faculties)General management and internationalization: structures (volume of dedicated staff, qualifications, number of TP positions devolved to the general strategy, scientific cooperation, advice and tutoring of students, monitoring of alumni, admissions) and personalities - general financial allocations -Faculty - research: international recruitment, participation in international

conferences, publications in international journals. Grants received for international projects / No. of visiting professors, teaching mobilityProportion of foreign students, student mobility, proportion of double graduatesNumber of partner universities (distinction number and quality)
