INTERVENTION DIARY 2018-19
We all in ODISHA DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (ODMP) consider the year 2018-19 as a year of introspection and importance in the sense that it has completed a decade of its operation as a social organization. The Annual report for the year 2018-19 reflects the core activities of the organization and the services rendered to various groups of the society. The reporting year witnesses a major change in its traditional service delivery system. It has not confined its services to sustainable agriculture development and ventured into other segments of social development in order to form a self-sufficient, self-sustained and self-determined union of souls. The organization has extended its support to a large number of emerging village based groups, as a matter of principle, to encourage and strengthen their small efforts from rural hinterland to the more urbanized coastal regions of Puri District, without bothering about the contingent expenditures involved.
This year the process, momentum and achievements of the organization have been evaluated by a team of external evaluators. This exercise has given the organization an insight through a series of suggestions in the form of recommendations, which have been taken in a positive spirit and measures are being taken to bring about possible changes after examining the relevance of the suggestions made by the evaluators.
The success and achievements of ODMP as a networks of voluntary organization have been attributed to the sincere endeavor of a team of advisors and committed staff members as well as the whole hearted cooperation of SHG members.
There has been sincere efforts by ODMP to reach out to the poorest of the poor in remote corners of Puri and in the coming years vigorous attempt would be made to carry forward this spirit further.
THE OUT COME : Here is the brief intervention story, which authenticates our promise, process & performance.

INTERVENTION IN DESCRIPTIVE MODE
Swachh Bharat Mission(G) Swachh Bharat Mission(G) is also carried out as the prima face of ODMP Vision’s target and built up alliances of hygienic awareness campaign by mobilizing the rural villages for construction of Individual Household Latrine in Nuakholamara , Ranhagorada , Garh Vengura and Nagapur of GOP block of Puri district of Odisha State. As a whole 471 nos. of IHLs has been installed for the individuals with the support partnership of DWSM, Puri district. Village health & sanitation committees are being formed and linked with DWSM as convergence of community institutions to continue the journey of Swachh Bharat Mission amongst the rural people.
HEALTH AWARENESS PROG.
The health facilities in the urban areas are quite negotiable but in the rural areas it is rampant. ODMP in its project area has identified major issues on rural health programme. In order to deal with the health hazards, ODMP has organized 2 nos. of health awareness programmes at Dubaipur U.P School on dtd. 23rd June 2018 & KetakiPatana U.P School on dtd. 22nd Dec. 2018 of Satyabadi block involving school students
SHG GROUP FORMATION AND TRAINING Poverty hits women the hardest, as they balance means and ends of the household level and many a time they skip a meal to let the rest of the household avail of the little that is available. These women are subject to economic and social discrimination and credit is not easily available to them This segment, often from the lower income, meets its financial needs through informal sources such as money lenders, traders, family and friends etc. However, these sources have their own limitations.
We promote enterprenuership in women through collective enterprises. Women’s collectives began as an effort of making women aware of their rights. These are spaces where discussions on various socio-cultural and political issues were held, were women explored ways to resist the obstacles to their rights and entitlements and how to build solidarity within the community.
Introducing any development measure among our vast underserved demographic section
would certainly be abortive unless involvement of women is ensured. A country like
Bangladesh, which is an utterly underdeveloped country has shown us the way that
addressing massive poverty and desperation is not a macro but micro level change process.
The SHG movement started from here . It has been hugely successful in our context. We are
still at the beginners stage, needing more precision at the ground-level-application
mechanism. NGOs with its peculiarity of working for and with people have proved their
mettle to bring in economic empowerment in particular and holistic community
development in general. More emphatically, the concept targets the women sections of the
demography as the primary stake holder in the sense that in high majority of cases they are
the front managers of our family system. And it is an undeniable truth that when women
change, the whole society begins to change. With this mind frame ODMP during the
reported period has taken up activities appertaining to economic empowerment of women
through group synergy like promotion and stabilization of 150 SHGs, with membership of
2000 women, by integrating inputs like training and orientation, economically productive
capacity building, management guidance on mobilization of group corpus and a whole lot of
enabling measures.
PLANTATION & NURSERY RISING
The land goes barren with the untamed building structure and the wipe out of the forests
which ride our civilization towards a dead end of the modernization. we need profuse
plantation and green revolution for enrichment of the eco-system. We have been connecting
our desire of the eco-conservation for the bestowment of our future generation avoiding the
eve teasing to the trees and forests and emergence of the forest lands to balance our water
cycle. The plants & nurseries were brought from the Horticulture Department and it were
implanted at the community land of Mahura G.P of the satyabadi block from Dtd. 27th July
to 30th July 2018 and some nurseries were given to the farmers to foster at the divider of the
cultivable lands. The committee for the forestation was developed and under its supervision
the forestation programme was undertaken by eucalyptus, neem, aswattha, acaccia and other
species like mangoes, pepal and chakunda etc.
Apart from safeguarding the current forest wealth we are also trying to regenerate new
forest growth by undertaking plantation.
Agricultural Programme Widening livelihood options in both farm and non-farm sectors is one of the key strategies of ODMP Agriculture being one of the primary sources of livelihoods of the people of our operational area., effort is being taken by the organization to improve the agricultural practices resulting in increase in productivity of crops and thereby ensuring year-round food security and enhanced income. Several land use activities were organized during the year and around 120 acres of land being developed for integrated vegetable cultivation projects. Protection of natural resources, its systematic development, effective management and judicious usage by local communities with appropriate skills and knowledge to ensure food security and generate additional employment opportunity in an effort to assure a better livelihood on a sustainable basis are the key issues to be addressed through mix crop cultivation.
CONSUMER AWARENESS
The concept of consumerism now a day demands much public attention in the wake of the
behavioral transition of the people as a whole. New and new products are introduced in the
market and the advertisement media takes a prime role in the projection of new ideas before
the consumers. Interestingly this creates a preferential confusion as to the perfect choice in
procurement by consumers. Somewhere it looks positive but the majority of consumers get
befooled. And more interestingly, in spite of their such suffering, people remain cipher and
non-responsive. Understanding the high relevance of Consumer Protection Act (COPRA),
1986) as a safeguard measure, ODMP has undertaken several community based education
and action activities in the form of orientation camps both within the city of Puri and villages
of the district . While activities organized during the famous car festival of Puri were of
immense impact, observance of National Consumer Day on 24th December, 2018 in the
shape of a cycle rally from Singhadwar to Gundichighara giving slogan for consumer
protection was an event in point.
GROUND LEVEL SENSITISATION MEASURES ON NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Natural Resources Management (NRM) refers to the sustainable utilization of major natural
resources, such as land, water, air, minerals, forests, fisheries, and the flora and fauna.
Together, these resources provide the ecosystem services that sustain human life. The
perspective of the community level sensitization measures aim to bring onto the surface the
mission of using NRM in a sustainable manner to enhance human welfare. While poverty
alleviation and sustainable NRM are generally compatible, difficult tradeoffs may occur at
times. Nevertheless the fact remains that without poverty alleviation, the environment in
developing countries will continue to degrade, and without better NRM, poverty mitigation
will be undermined. As part of its mission in furthering this morale, ODMP has organized
several IEC extension activities in form of workshops including interactive field-based KAP
sharing activities etc. The natural resources should be carefully used for the development of
human kind in the modern ages as it is being endangered by the exploitation of resources
for satisfying grim need . ODMP has been promoting a safer environment services for natural
resource conservation sensitizing not only sub-terranean protection but also the conservation
of water bodies.
DRUG ERADICATION PROGRAMME.
The biggest fall out of our civilization is devaluation of human resource through drug abuse,
mostly adopted by the youth community for whatever reason. The monster of this heinous
practice is globally coordinated taking its users as the target.
In view of the fact that, once trapped it is very difficult to restore to normalcy, entire civil
society all the times need to be involved for prevention and control. ODMP as a ground level
development change agency maintains its constant intervention in the form of community
meetings, counseling camps, neighborhood sessions and such other activities for raising
critical awareness on the enfeebling implication of this practice cumulatively crippling our
youth
WORKSHOP,SEMINAR & TRAINING Visualizing the rampant unemployment situation and to make the rural youth self sufficient
in terms of gainful self employment, ODMP started with several promotional activities
including Vocational and skill empowerment Programmes. Few such notable interventions
were - training in Cutting and tailoring (for females only), Computer application etc,
benefiting 40 beneficiaries. The ODMP also organized nos. of workshops and seminars on
different development issues for the betterment of the society.
PROGRAMMES ON SC/ST DEVELOPMENT
ODMP in its developmental angle started a new action for empowering the tribal community
of the society for self- sustainable livelihood support. As a part of its first initiative, the
network set-up a satellite branch at Koraput district of Odisha where majority of the people in
that district belongs to tribal community. Under its capacity ODMP without availing any types
of grant from any sources it began to serve the community in several angle of the
development. The organization is organized various activities in collaboration with local
NGOs like: Strengthening of SHGs through imparting capacity building training programmes;
Generating awareness on prevention of shifting cultivation; Generating awareness on
afforestation; Marketing Non-Timber Products (NTP), etc.
LOBBY, ADVOCACY & NETWORKING ODMP as a consortium of NGOs drives its associated organizations towards their intensive
involvement in the ground level alternative development process. For such institutional
empowerment it has proved its mettle by facilitating common service measures in the
manner of 5 Capacity building training of partner NGOs; One day orientation training
programme on disaster preparedness; Lobby and advocacy with various programme
authorities of District Water and Sanitation Mission in order to draw a clearly defined
strategy for successful implementation of the programme; Development of strategies to
promote block level development forums under the aegis of ODMP in order to shape the
consortium in federal structure.
