    agent in an organisation.

    Why Laboratory ?

A Lab is a controlled and artificial environmentcreated specially for scientific exploration.

In OD, a Lab similarly refers to an interventionwhich is experimental and discovery-oriented.

A Lab does not deal with what is going onoutside it. Similarly, we will be occupied largely

    by ourselves.

A Lab produces data. An OD Lab produces data

through the interaction of its members. This data is studied to see what patterns and

    concepts they throw up.

    Basic Ideas

The main resource that OD agents carry into theirwork is THEMSELVES.

Change starts with ME, then spreads to others. Hence, the central focus during these 3 days will

    be YOUR SELF.

As you look at whats going on around you, pay

attention to what is going on inside your SELF. Feel free to express your thoughts and feelings.

    Plan

We will progress on the basis of a model that Iwill explain in one of the next slides.

Remember some of the key concepts we coveredin earlier classes, particularly

    CONTENT and PROCESS

    THOUGHTS and FEELINGS

    VISIBLE and HIDDEN

    CONSCIOUS and UNCONSCIOUS

  • 8/3/2019 OD - Process Skills Lab

    7/44

    Remember.....

    OD facilitators and change-agentswork with

    PROCESSES

    FEELINGS

The INVISIBLE, UNSPOKEN, UNOFFICIAL The NON-RATIONAL

    The UNCONSCIOUS

  • 8/3/2019 OD - Process Skills Lab

    8/44

This doesn't mean that OD workers or

change-agents are irrational, overlyemotional, or illogical.

  • 8/3/2019 OD - Process Skills Lab

    9/44

Good OD work requires you to be

    Patient

    Thoughtful

    Reflective

  • 8/3/2019 OD - Process Skills Lab

    10/44

In addition, remember the basic OD values:

    Transparency

    Authenticity

    Spontaneity

  • 8/3/2019 OD - Process Skills Lab

    11/44

So, in the end,its a question of striking

    a good balancebetween

    headand heart.

A participant may or may not be the official

leader, but there are no brakes on him or her to be'leader-like'.

    Role in Role-Plays

    Occasionally, we will have role-plays.

    These are imaginary situations.

Roles in these role-plays have to be created byparticipants within broad parameters of context.

    Imagination and creativity are important.

Also, empathy with the characters we are called

    upon to represent.

This means giving up our Selves, and entering theminds and lives ofOthers.
