www.smyrnaseniorcenter.org October/November, 2021 October is here and I am so happy to have some cooler temperatures. I m especially excited to be able to change my wardrobe for the new season. I love being able to share our success stories with all of you. We held our first ever Fun Walk and Carnival on Saturday, September 18. Despite the fact that the rain came in torrents starting around 9:00 a.m. that morning, we still had a great turnout for our Fun Walk and everyone enjoyed taking advantage of the Carnival games set up by our Vendors. We had folks dancing in the rain, walking to win cakes, playing Bingo and blowing bubbles. We had Board members sitting behind our new Jail Cellraising bail money for our building fund. To date, we have collected over $3,100 and we are still waiting for sponsorship money for our walkers and bail money for our arrested Board members. All of these proceeds will go to our Capital Campaign for our new building. Our next big event will be our Craft Sale on November 5-6. The crafters hope that you are making items at home for this event. If you are, please bring your items in by October 14 so that everything can be priced in ad- vance of the sale. I am looking for a culinary specialist to make some fried apple pies for the event. Please let me know if you can help with this project. Volunteers will be needed before, during and after the sale. Please sign up on the volunteer sheet if you are willing to help. We have two special art/craft projects coming up in October and November. Please see more details in the newsletter and sign up if you are interested. Our monthly meetings have been a big success. The group overwhelmingly agreed to continue paying $5.00 each month to have our meal catered in instead of having to cook each month. Please make sure you sign up and pay your $5 for the October monthly meeting. Calling all female veterans — please let me know if you are willing to assist with our Veterans Day program at our November monthly meeting.

October is here and I am so happy to have some cooler temperatures. I’m

especially excited to be able to change my wardrobe for the new season.

I love being able to share our success stories with all of you. We held our

first ever Fun Walk and Carnival on Saturday, September 18. Despite the

fact that the rain came in torrents starting around 9:00 a.m. that morning,

we still had a great turnout for our Fun Walk and everyone enjoyed taking

advantage of the Carnival games set up by our Vendors. We had folks

dancing in the rain, walking to win cakes, playing Bingo and blowing

bubbles. We had Board members sitting behind our new “Jail Cell” raising

bail money for our building fund. To date, we have collected over $3,100

and we are still waiting for sponsorship money for our walkers and bail

money for our arrested Board members. All of these proceeds will go to our

Capital Campaign for our new building.

Our next big event will be our Craft Sale on November 5-6. The crafters

hope that you are making items at home for this event. If you are, please

bring your items in by October 14 so that everything can be priced in ad-

vance of the sale. I am looking for a culinary specialist to make some fried

apple pies for the event. Please let me know if you can help with this

project. Volunteers will be needed before, during and after the sale.

Please sign up on the volunteer sheet if you are willing to help.

We have two special art/craft projects coming up in October and November.

Please see more details in the newsletter and sign up if you are interested.

Our monthly meetings have been a big success. The group overwhelmingly

agreed to continue paying $5.00 each month to have our meal catered in

instead of having to cook each month. Please make sure you sign up and

pay your $5 for the October monthly meeting.

Calling all female veterans — please let me know if you are willing to assist

with our Veterans Day program at our November monthly meeting.

MarLou Patterson was a long-time member of our

Senior Center. She loved to travel and always

hated for a trip to end. She spent the last few

years of her life living at Adams Place where she

enjoyed playing Bridge. MarLou knew everyone in

Smyrna and everyone in Smyrna knew her.

Duane Shamburg was an expert Bridge player and

loved playing at the Center. He was also a big

jokester as he told everyone at the end of a game

that he was “glad they got to see him.” He made

the best Rum balls ever.

Condolences also to the family and friends of Maie Edwards who was a

member of the Center for several years.
