Student Spotlight

We are thrilled to announce that Western Sierra Collegiate Academy sophomore Kaylee Doty will represent the western United States in the Chinese Bridge Program in Kunming, China starting October 12th. During the 17-day trip, Kaylee will visit Beijing, then head to Kunming for the competition which will include written and verbal tests and a talent showcase.

Achievements like Kaylee’s are what the Rocklin Academy Family of Schools is all

about: excelling academically, finding and pursuing passions, and impacting the world with excellence. Best of luck, Kaylee! For more on Kaylee’s achievement, click on this story from the Placer Herald.

October Superintendent Update 2017 September was National Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. With the help of Meyers’ second grader, Taylor Hurst and the Rocklin Police Department, Meyers students and staff teamed up with the American Childhood Cancer Organization with week-long activities to raise awareness. Way to go Taylor!

Staff Spotlight

Tammy Penney, a 7th grade teacher at Rocklin Academy Gateway, was selected from hundreds of candidates to participate in the Summit Learning Fellows program over the summer. She facilitated professional learning for many teachers and teams new to the Summit Learning program. Rocklin Academy Gateway’s 7th grade was invited to participate in the pilot program with around 100 other schools across the country last year, and this year, the pilot expanded to 8th grade. You can learn more about the personalized learning approach the Summit Learning program takes here. Congratulations, Mrs. Penney, on this honor!

October Superintendent Update 2017 Parent Spotlight John Thut is a very familiar face at Rocklin Academy Gateway. Every morning since his now-second grade son was in kindergarten, he can be spotted outside in front of the school, greeting students cheerfully and helping direct traffic. His son arrives at 7:35 for his start time, but John stays until traffic ends at 8:30, helping wherever he can. Thanks, John, for helping kids feel welcomed to school each morning!

K-12 Highlight

Second graders across the schools celebrated their Core Knowledge studies of Early Asian Civilizations with a visit from Western Sierra’s Dragon and Lion Dance Team.
