LITURGIA DEL DIA / TODAY’S LITURGY Primera Lectura: Isaías 5: 1-7 Voy a cantar, en nombre de mi amado, una canción a su viña. Mi amado tenia una viña en una ladera fértil. Removió la tie-rra, quito las piedras y planto en ella vides selectas; edifico en medio una torre y excavo un lagar. El esperaba que su viña diera buenas uvas, pero la viña dio uvas agrias. Ahora bien, habitantes de Jerusalén y gente de Judá, yo les ruego, sean jueces entre mi viña y yo. ¿Qué mas pude hacer por mi viña, que yo no lo hiciera? ¿Por qué cuando yo esperaba que diera uvas buenas, las dio agrias? Ahora voy a darles a cono-cer lo que hare con mi viña; le quitare su cerca y será destro-zada. Derribare tu tapia y será pisoteada. La convertiré en un erial, nadie la podara ni le quitara los cardos, crecerán en ella los abrojos y las espinas, mandare a las nubes que no lluevan sobre ella. Pues bien, la viña del Señor de los ejércitos es la casa de Israel y los hombres de Judá son su plantación prefe-rida. El Señor esperaba de ellos que obraran rectamente y ello, en cambio, cometieron iniquidades; El esperaba justicia y solo se oyen reclamaciones. Palabra de Dios

Segunda Lectura: Filipenses 4: 6-9 Hermanos: No se inquieten por nada; mas bien presenten en toda ocasión sus peticiones a Dios en la oración y la suplica, llenos de gratitud. Y que la paz de Dios, que sobrepasa toda inteligencia, custodie sus corazones y sus pensamientos en Cristo Jesús. Por lo demás, hermanos, aprecien todo lo que es verdadero y noble, cuanto hay de justo y puro, todo lo que es amable y honroso, todo lo que sea virtud y merezca elogio. Evangelio: Mateo 21: 33-43 En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los sumos sacerdotes y los an-cianos del pueblo esta parábola: “Había una vez un propieta-rio que panto un viñedo, lo rodeo con una cerca, cavo un lagar en el, construyo una torre para el vigilante y luego lo alquilo a unos viñadores y se fue de viaje. Llegando el tiempo de la vendimia, envió a sus criados para pedir su parte de los frutos a los viñadores; pero esos se apoderaron de los cria-dos, golpearon a uno, mataron a otro y a otro mas lo ape-drearon, Envió de nuevo a otros criados, en mayor número que los primeros, y los trataron del mismo modo. +Por últi-mo, les mando a su propio hijo, pensando: “A mi hijo lo res-petarán” Pero cuando los viñadores lo vieron, se dijeron unos a otros: “Este es el heredero. Vamos a matarlo y nos quedaremos con su herencia”. Le echaron mano, lo sacaron del viñedo y lo mataron.Ahora, díganme: cuando vuelva el dueño del viñedo, ¿Qué hará con esos viñadores? ”Ellos le respondieron: “Dará muerte terrible a esos desalmados y arrendara el viñedo a otros viñadores, que le entréguenlos frutos a su tiempo”. Entonces Jesús les dijo: ¿No han leído nunca en la Escritura: La piedra que desecharon los construc-tores, es ahora la piedra angular. Esto es obra del Señor y es un prodigio admirable? Por esta razón les digo que les será quitado a ustedes el Reino de Dios y se les dará a un pueblo que produzca sus frutos”. Palabra del Señor

First Reading: Isaiah 5: 1-7 Let me now sing of my friend, my friend’s song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside; he spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes. Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard: What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? Now, I will let you know what I mean to do with my vineyard: take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall let it be trampled! Yes, I will make it a ruin; it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it. The vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel and the people of Judah are his cherished pant; he looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! For justice, but hark, the out-cry! Second Reading: Philippians 4: 6-9 Brothers and sisters: Have no anxiety at all, but in every-thing, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Gospel: Matthew 21: 33-43 Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: “Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. The he leased it to tenants and went on a jour-ney. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son’. But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ’This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance’. They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes? They answered him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times”. Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures: the stone that the builders rejected has be-come the cornerstone; by the Lord, has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes? Therefore, I say to you, the king-dom of God will be taken away from you and given to a peo-ple that will produce its fruit”. Gospel of the Lord

REFLEXION DOMINICAL / SUNDAY REFLECTION

DIOS ENTREGA TODO POR AMOR

Invertimos mucho en nuestros hijos, en nuestra familia, en nuestro futuro. Queremos ofrecer lo mejor de nosotros y no hay sacrificio demasiado grande, ni esfuerzo que no se pueda emprender, ni trabajo demasiado fuerte para nosotros. Nada importa, con tal de alcanzar la meta de buscar un mejor futuro. Muchos de nosotros pasamos por peligros, angustias y problemas buscando una vida mejor. Por eso, cuando las cosas no salen bien, nos frus-tramos y desilusionamos.

Puede ser que la depresión nos lleve a tirar la toalla y no querer hacer ya nada más, ni buscar otros caminos. A veces, nuestros esfuerzos se encuentran con la falta de gratitud, la incomprensión o la indiferencia de aquellos a quienes se supone que beneficien. Aunque no hagamos las cosas para que se nos agradezcan, la ingratitud pue-de doler muchísimo; pero, más todavía que la ingratitud ha de doler el que aquellos a quienes hemos hecho bien, nos devuelvan mal.

No nos será difícil, entonces, imaginar la inmensidad del dolor de Dios. Ha invertido toda una inmensa cantidad en nuestra viña. La ha amado tanto, que ha enviado a su propio hijo. Es fácil imaginar la frustración de Dios al ver no solo que no da fruto, sino que se rechaza a ese hijo. Nos imaginamos la desilusión, la pena, la increduli-dad que puede haber sentido después de haber em-pleado tanto de su propio ser. Dios no da cosas materia-les; se da a sí mismo, y, aparentemente, para nada.

Lo bueno con Dios es que es capaz de encontrar una razón para perdonar y seguir esperando aunque parez-ca imposible. Siempre tiene un motivo para seguir aman-do aunque sus esfuerzos parezcan inútiles. Como no fuerza a nadie, sino que da la libertad, Dios no puede obligar a nadie a dar fruto. Solo invita. La imagen de Dios entregándolo todo por amor a su viña, es decir, a nosotros, debería ser suficiente para conmovernos pro-fundamente y animarnos a luchar y responder a ese Dios de amor que nos lo da todo.

Para la reflexión ¿En qué maneras he podido gastar algunos de los dones que Dios me ha dado sin dar fruto? ¿Ha habido momen-tos en que he rechazado el amor de Dios en mi vida?

GOD GIVES EVERYTHING OUT OF LOVE

We invest greatly in our children, in our family, and in our future. We want to give the best of ourselves and there is no sacrifice big enough, no effort that cannot be under-taken, nor work too strenuous for us. As long as we can attain the goal of achieving a better future, nothing else matters. In seeking a better life many of us endure dan-gers, anguishes, and problems. So when things don’t turn out well, we become frustrated and disillusioned.

Depression can lead us to throw in the towel, give up on doing anything else or seeking other paths. Sometimes our efforts are met with a lack of gratitude, misunder-standing or indifference by the same people they are supposed to benefit. Even if we don’t do things so that people can appreciate them, the lack of gratitude can hurt greatly; but, being mistreated by those whom we have treated well can be an even greater source of pain than the lack of appreciation.

It is not difficult to imagine, therefore, the immensity of God’s pain. He has invested immensely into our vineyard. He loved it so much that he sent his own son. It is easy to imagine God’s frustration in seeing that not only has the vineyard failed to bear fruit, but his son was rejected. We can imagine the feelings of disillusionment, sadness, and disbelief after having devoted so much of him. God does not give materials things; he gives himself; and, appar-ently, it may seem for nothing.

The good thing with God is that he is capable of finding a reason to forgive and continue waiting even if it seems impossible. He always has a reason to continue loving even when it appears that his efforts are useless. Since he does not force anyone, instead he gives freedom, God cannot obligate anyone to bear fruit. He only invites. The image of God giving everything out of love for his vine-yard, that is, us, should be sufficient to move us deeply and encourage us to fight, and respond to the God of love who gives everything.

For Reflection In what ways have I wasted some of the gifts that God has given me without bearing any fruit? Have there been times when I have rejected the love of God in my life?

Vigil in Honor of Our Lady of Fatima at LA

Cathedral October 13, 2017

Come to Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral to

commemorate the 100-year apparitions of our

Lady of Fatima. The whole family is invited.

This is a good opportunity to reflect and pray

for world peace, reconciliation and those in

need.

The vigil will be from 6 pm to 9 pm. There will be a

small procession, worship songs, Marian songs, ro-

sary and a short reflection of 5th Encuentro.

The vigil will be bilingual, English and Spanish, with

the participation of various members of our Catholic

community. This is vigil is sponsored by the Office

of Religious Education, the V Encuentro Initiative,

and Nueva Creacion de Dios Ministry. There is no

cost for the event; however, there might be a parking

fee at the LA Cathedral.

Vigila en honor de Nuestra Sra. de Fátima en

la Catedral de LA, 13 de octubre, 2017

Ven a la Catedral de Ntra. Sra. Reina de Los

Ángeles a conmemorar los 100 años de las

apariciones de Ntra. Señora de Fátima. Toda la

familia está invitada. Esta es una buena oportu-

nidad para reflexionar sobre la paz del mundo,

la reconciliación, y aquellos en necesidad.

La vigilia será de las 6 pm a las 9 pm. Habrá una

pequeña procesión, cantos de alabanza, cantos maria-

nos, rosario, y una reflexión breve del V Encuentro.

La vigilia será bilingüe, inglés y español, con la par-

ticipación de varios miembros de nuestra comunidad

católica. Esta vigilia está patrocinada por la Oficina

de Educación Religiosa, la iniciativa del V Encuen-

tro, y el Ministerio Nueva Creación de Dios. No hay

costo por el evento, sin embargo, puede haber una

cuota por el estacionamiento en la catedral.

MAYWOOD EDUCATION FAIR

In collaboration with the City of Maywood and St. Rose of Lima, Catholic Church, graduate students from the Department of Educational Leadership at California State University, Fullerton will host the 9th Annual Education Fair on Saturday: October 14th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at St. Rosa de Lima. The fair will consist of activities and workshops for students, parents, and community members to learn about the process of going to college including how to apply for college, career and vocational occupations, and the financial aid process.

This FREE event allows students from kindergarten to High School and parents to explore higher education options. There

will be free food, giveaways and an award ceremony for this year’s scholarship recipients.

La feria consistirá en varias actividades y talleres para estu-

diantes, padres de familia y miembros de la comunidad para informarse sobre cómo atender a la universidad incluyendo información sobre como aplicar para el colegio, carreras y ocu-paciones vocacionales.

Este evento GRATIS permitirá que estudiantes desde el grado kínder hasta la preparatoria y padres exploren sus opciones

para después de la High School. Habrá comida, premios y una ceremonia para los ganadores de becas en este año.
