Our kids here at LES have done a great job with following our PBIS rules and have earned lots of iPaws. We would like to encourage our students to continue to use our core values:

Respect

Independence

Responsibility

We are focusing on all three throughout the building. However, in-dependence is what we are striving for this month. Students are en-couraged to walk to class by themselves and to carry their own book

bag. Thanks for your assistance!

If you plan on taking your

child out of school for an educa-

tional trip, please ask your

child’s teacher for an education-

al leave form. These forms are

also located on the school web-

site. This must be returned to

school and approved by the prin-

cipal two weeks

prior to the date

of the trip.

Medications At School Medication, both prescription and over the counter, cannot be dispensed to students unless it is provided to the school by the parent in its original

container and a Permission to Give Medication Form is completed by both parent and physician. Medications must remain in the main office. When a

student needs to take their medication, they are to report to the main

office to receive it. At the end of the school year, all medication must be

picked up or it will be discarded.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact our school nurse - Krista S. Lawson, RN, BSN at 336-462-1971.

What is cyber-bullying?

It is the use of the Internet and or other technological devices to harm or harass other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile

manner. As it has become more common in society, particularly among young people, legislation and awareness campaigns have

arisen to combat it.

74% of households have the internet at home. 54% of kids between the ages of 8-15 have a social networking profile. With in-

creased social media comes increased cyber-bullying. It is important to know who your child is talking to in order to promote safety

for your child. On some social sites, people can talk to one another anonymously. Parents be aware of these sites such as

Ask.am.com. Any site where people can talk to complete strangers is not safe for kids. It is important to monitor your child’s social

media sites. Here are some ways to:

Prevent cyberbullying before it starts Refuse to pass along cyberbullying messages.

Tell their friends to stop cyberbullying.

Block communication with cyberbullies; delete messages without reading them.

Never post or share their personal information online (including full name, address, telephone number, school name, parents’

names, credit card number, or Social Security number) or their friends’ personal information.

Never share their internet passwords with anyone, except you.

Talk to you about their life online.

Not put anything online that they wouldn't want their classmates to see, even in email.

Not send messages when they’re angry or upset.

Always be as polite online as they are in person. Source: National Crime Prevention Council

Monitor your child's technology use Regardless of how much your child resents it, you can only protect him or her by monitoring what they do online.

Keep the computer in a busy area of your house so you can easily monitor its use, rather than allowing your child use a laptop or

tablet in his or her bedroom, for example.

Limit data access to your child's smart phone if he or she uses it to surf the web. Some wireless providers allow you to turn off

text messaging services during certain hours.

Set up filters on your child's computer. Tracking software can block inappropriate web content and help you check up on your

child's online activities.

Insist on knowing your child's passwords and learn the common acronyms kids use online and in text messages.

Know who your child communicates with online. Go over your child's address book and instant messenger "buddy list" with

them. Ask who each person is and how your child knows them.

Encourage your child to tell you or another trusted adult if they receive threatening messages or

are otherwise targeted by cyber-bullies, while reassuring them that doing so will not result in their

loss of computer or cell phone privileges.

LES PTA’s “PAW-tastic” News

Welcome to all of our new and returning students for the upcoming year!

It has been shown that partnerships between parents, educators, and children work to enhance the success of our kids. It is the goal of the

PTA to further these partnerships by hosting programs throughout the year that work to the benefit of our children. These partnerships

and programs include:

*Providing financial support to teachers and programs *Providing fun and engaging activities such as dances and parties

*Encouraging local businesses to donate time and services *Beautifying the school grounds and facilities

*Providing volunteer support for student activities

You can keep up to date with PTA and school activities by following us on Facebook at “Lewisville Elementary PTA”. Information can

also be found on the school’s web site under the PTA tab.

Anyone can join the PTA, it is not limited to parents only. Brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, grandparents and any other community mem-

bers who have a desire to see children grow and prosper are welcome to join in! The children we help today are the future of our commu-

nities. They are the leaders, the businessmen and women of tomorrow. They are those who will carve out the destiny of our country. They

are all our children. Joining the PTA is just a small part in helping support our future. So please join with us. You can download a mem-

bership from our web page located within the school’s web page (https://www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/28959) or find a link on our Face-

book page. As of now, we currently have 239 members. If you haven't joined, it's not too late! We are finishing up our grade level mem-

bership contest. Currently the classes in the lead for their respective grade levels are Palmer - Kinder, Dolge - 1st, York - 2nd, Walek -

3rd, Rempfer - 4th, and Huppert - 5th.

The 2017 Fall Box Top Collection Contest is upon us. Clip, save

and return Box Tops to the school. In past years, we raised over

$4,000 just by clipping Box Tops!!! If you have not received a

baggy from your teacher please add your box tops to a baggy

with your child’s name and teacher’s name on it. Return the Box

Tops to your child’s teacher or drop them in the collection box by

the gym by October 11, 2017, to be included in the contest.

Don’t forget to write the classroom teacher's name on the

baggy to get credit. The class in each grade who turn in the

most Box Tops will win a special treat.
