Chamber of Commerce Meeting September 6, 2017
Present:, Dena Beck, Erica Hansen, Natalie Janda, Jeanne Jons, Joelle Knott, Kevin Krull, Carol Loschen, Simon McKenzie, Conner Paterson, Kim Snavely, Dawn Thompson and Chamber Director Marcia Davis. Absent: Janene Hill was absent.
Meeting was called to order at 12:10 p.m. by President Kevin Krull
Scott Murrish, Marketing Director with USA Communications, opened the meeting with a presentation on Digital Media Market-ing. Scott offered information on the benefits of digital marketing and presented a plan to offer this type of service to businesses within the Minden area. The Chamber would offer link services on our website for the US Communication digital advertising pro-duction. The partnership is being offered to the Chamber at no cost and includes the provision for a Chamber digital media pro-duction highlighting Minden and the benefits of Chamber membership. Mr. Murrish concluded his presentation at 12:25 p.m. and exited the meeting. Kevin opened the floor to discussion on the presentation. No immediate action was taken on the proposal.
Kim Snavely moved to approve the Secretary minutes and current Treasurer’s report as submitted. Dawn Thompson second, mo-tion approved.
Old Business I. Street Dance/Music Festival – Discussion was reopened on the items reviewed and presented in the August meeting. Board consensus was that it is too late to make any significant changes to the Street Dance for 2018. It was agreed that a committee should be formed with the intent of looking at a more Musical/Wine Tasting/Cook Off type of event for 2019. The Street Dance committee will proceed with finding a band for the 2018 event.
II. Christmas Festival – Marcia Davis presented a tentative outline for the Festival, beginning on Friday November 24th and con-cluding on Sunday December 10th. Discussion centered on the cost of the event. Additional funding ideas were reviewed. Dena Beck moved that the budget for the Christmas Festival be increased to a maximum of $6,000.00, with funding from sponsorships and grants being explored as well. Carol Loschen second, motion carried.
III. Car Show Review – Marcia Davis presented a recap of the 2017 Classic Car Show. The day was a success with 140 show cars present. She noted a small glitch with the use of the Courthouse sound system at the trophy presentation, but was confident that this could be resolved next year.
New Business I. Annual Meeting – The November Annual Meeting and election of Board members was discussed. Marcia Davis proposed that the meeting be held at Auto Way Bowl. Potential dates and a 6:00 p.m. meeting time were discussed. Marcia will coordinate with the Alley and get back to us with finalized information. A nominating committee consisting of Dena Beck, Carol Loschen, Janene Hill and Jeanne Jons was selected. The nominating committee will work to produce a slate of at least 6 potential board candi-dates.
II. BandFest: The event will held on October 14th. Marcia Davis asked Chamber members to be prepared to help. Help will be needed in the concessions stand and at the gate for sure. There are 11 Band registered so far and time left on the registration deadline.
Committees: Ambassadors, Oct. 11, 12-1 p.m. Pizza Hut
Upcoming Events: I. BandFest Oct 14
