Thank you to everyone who interviewed to be either a peer buddy or lunch buddy and congratulations to everyone who was paired up! We have a lot of great matches this year and we can’t wait to hear all about it in the next coming months.

This year our Match Party was at the exciting Camp BB, where pizza was served, chit-chat was occurring around a campfire, and people were having fun. Our state-of-the-art camp entertained all who interviewed as each pair was matched, and focused on the fun-loving atmosphere Best Buddies encourages on a daily basis.

Junior Savannah DeLeon is experiencing her first year as a Peer Buddy and is pretty excited to be matched up with Jose for their year-long friendship. “I’m looking forward to get to know [him] and make a new friend,” she expresses.

Senior Andrea Belden, though not a Peer or Lunch Buddy this year, still comments about how well the buddy pairs are matched up. “My brother [Cameron Belden, Freshman and Lunch Buddy] has so much to talk about with Matt!” she says, “He says they talk a lot about video games.”

And these are just a few of the many matches we have this year. Stay tuned for more in-depth interviews with each pair and look out for honorable mentions!

#IMINTOHIREBecause our chapter works so closely with the Best Buddies International, we have taken to join them in their I’m In To Hire campaign, promoting the hiring of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, thus creating a more inclusive workplace.

About 85% of adults with developmental disabilities are unemployed or are not being paid for their work in their communities, and to help make that staggering percentage lower, they have created the online campaign #ImInToHire to gain support from the masses.

And support we did. DBHS Best Buddies devoted a whole meeting to creating signs with the hasthag #ImIntToHire written on them and after signing it, posted the pictures on various social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram with the hashtag #ImInToHire and the mentions @bestbuddies, @imintohire, and @dbhsbestbuddies to pledge and promote our support.

We’ve had several of our members featured on the official pages including Dylan Crowell on the ImInToHire Instagram page, Vrinda Chauhan on the Best Buddies California Facebook page, and Megan Lee on our own Instagram page.

DBHS BEST BUDDIES 2014-2015

We celebrated Halloween this year with friends, sweet treats, and of course the Monster Mash! Club members played a game that had them hop a certain distance with their hands behind their back before lying on their stomachs and eating a donut as fast as they can. Some won, some lost, but everyone who played walked away with smiles on their faces and yummy donuts in their bellies.

The week before, we even had a few mummies in our midst as our members wrapped each other in toilet paper. There were few moans and groans, but don’t worry, those were only from the people being wrapped acting the part. Each group made an exceptional mummy as everyone had a great time making them.

We hope everyone stayed safe this weekend and of course that everyone gathered enough candy to last them through the ages!

This issue has been a joint effort by the many members of the Diamond Bar High School Best Buddies chapter. A big thank you to all involved.

GOODBYE, ZACKThough the year has just gone off to a wonderful start, we at Best Buddies are reluctant to say that one of our Buddies, Zack, will be moving to Glendora High School. We wish him the best of luck there and hope that he won’t forget us as we won’t forget him.
