Nearly 200 years later, WASPS, as it is widely known, is as strong as it has ever been. Currently more than 500 children aged 4-11 attend the school and by 2017 there will be 630 pupils – making it the largest primary school in Bath & North East Somerset. Today’s buildings and grounds are a far cry from the old 1817 school. That building had two classrooms, each only 20 foot square. More than 160 boys and girls squeezed into those two classrooms. Nowadays WASPS’ classrooms only have 30 pupils in them but even so they are bigger than those Victorian classrooms. The school has large and beautiful grounds– with playing fields, an island within a moat, trees, wild-life, a kitchen garden and a Scandinavian wooden classroom with a green roof. Soon there will be a Hobbit House and a new garden in memory of Mitzi, the four year old killed in the terrible traffic accident earlier this year. This September our latest (and last!) new building was opened; it is called Little WASPS and houses 180 five-six year olds. In Ofsted terms, the school was rated outstanding in 2010. Our academic achievements put us in the top 10% of primary schools in England and the school is very well known for the breadth and quality of its creativity in the arts. Much of the current success of the school is due to Anne Bull OBE who has been the headteacher for more than 25 years. For us as a Church it is very gratifying to know that the inspectors from the Diocese also judge WASPS as an outstanding example of a modern Christian school. In July 2015, the Diocesan inspector wrote: Weston All Saints Primary School is an inclusive, warm and friendly Christian community. Values, underpinned by Christian teaching, are integral to the whole life of the school. Each child is accepted as special and unique with individual talents given by God. A wealth of opportunities and experiences, including spiritual and cultural, are provided to develop these talents, resulting in self-confident children who greatly enjoy school and hugely value their learning. Relationships at all levels, particularly amongst the children are outstanding. Children say this is because they notice others using values such as trust and forgiveness and relate these to the parable of the Prodigal Son. One of the reasons for this strong spiritual dimension is the relationship with All Saints Church which is seen in lots of ways: - Our church is increasingly used by the school to celebrate Harvest, Christmas, Easter and the end of the school year. Patrick Whitworth is a school governor as is Tom Peryer who is also chair of governors. Many parents come into church to join those gatherings. Most Tuesdays, Patrick, Simon, Russell, Sky or Tom leads the assembly. As a church we make a gift of a Bible to every child in the school. Members of the congregation work or volunteer in the school or are parents of pupils. Sic floreat WASPS! Tom Peryer

As a church we are fortunate to have a strong link with a church school that carries our name and which was set up by one of Patrick’s predecessors in 1817. Nearly 200 years later, WASPS, as it is widely known, is as strong as it has ever been.
