We are well on our way with our PTA activities this year!

Our Movie Night was a huge success so a BIG THANK YOU to Arti Joshi & Ashwini Chandramouli.

The children had a wonderful time! It was great to see our teachers in attendance - Sandy Villarreal (bilingual

teacher), Alisa Carlin (Speech), Laura Garwood, Lori Wood, Mrs. Finnegan and Mrs. Dickerson.

Our Dinner Night Out at Sweet Tomatoes was a fun time had by all. THANK YOU to Julie Sterzinger for organizing our Dinner Nights Out and a SPECIAL

THANKS to Mrs. Garwood, Mrs. Halicki & Mrs. Reyes, Mr. Lopez & Mrs. Dickerson for stopping by.

We have our FALL CLASS PARTIES this Friday and preparations for our HALLOWEEN PARTY at the end of the month. We appreciate all the support and time

Reflections Art Program is Here!

Cowlishaw is participating in the Reflections Program again this year. Reflections is a program of National PTA whose purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works. Entries can be essays, poems, stories, drawings, paintings, photographs, musical scores, or videos. Submissions are judged at the local level and entries may advance to the council, district, region, or state PTA levels. Top state award-winning entries advance to the national level of judging.

The theme for 2013-2014 is “Believe, Dream, Inspire”. All entries should be submitted to your child's teacher by October 18th. There will also be a box outside of the Main Office for entry drop-offs.

Entry into this program is FREE and all it takes to participate is just a little effort from parents and your child's imagination. Do not miss out on this opportunity to showcase your child's talents and make this program a success.

3SAVE your Box Tops and Labels for Education! Competition is between October 1-15 and the classroom that collects the most will win a surprise for their whole classroom. The classrooms will

each have a deposit bag in each room. The Tops and Label’s will be tallied at the very end. Winner to be announced October 21st!

INDIAN PRAIRIE SPECIAL NEEDS PTA

The Indian Prairie Special Needs (IPSN) PTA is a district-wide PTA primarily made up of a group of parents and caregivers who have children with special needs in Indian Prairie School District 204.  Our members have

children with a wide range of ages, abilities and educational placements within the District's schools. Our group welcomes all interested persons at our meetings.

Our mission is to unify and support parents and caregivers of children with special needs from ages 3 to 21 by providing them with an opportunity to:

• Meet with other parents to share experiences and learn more about topics of interest to them through regular meetings.

• Learn about and support legislation, funding, services and community resources that support and strengthen the families of children with special needs in our communities.

• Meet with educators and community leaders to increase awareness of and gain support for the children with special needs in our communities.

 We believe that no one can better understand the unique challenges of parenting a child with special needs

October 17th -  Family BINGO Night at Still Middle School. Registration begins at 6:45pm & BINGO is from 7pm-8pm.

December – Social Event: Time and location to be finalized.

January 21st at 7pm -  Transition & Planning Meeting presented by Mary Denise Cahill. Meeting will be held at CEC 2nd Floor Board Room.

March 18th at 7pm –Topic: District 204 Special Olympics.  This will be held at CEC 2nd Floor Board Room.

April 15th at 7pm –New Board Elections. Topic: Local Orgs/Summer Camps Information. This will be held at CEC in the Multipurpose Room at the Prairie Children Preschool.

May - End of year event (TBD)

Manna Prepaid Cards Fundraiser Where do you grocery shop?

Jewel, Dominick’s, Meijer, Target, Walmart?You could pay with a prepaid card from the PTA.

It’s easy and at no extra cost to you!

If you buy groceries, gasoline, clothes, and eat at restaurants you can raise money for the PTA. The Manna Group, based in Palatine, IL, offers prepaid gift cards at face value for grocers, restaurants, retail stores, and gas stations at no extra cost to you. The benefit is that The Manna Group sells them to the PTA at a reduced price and the PTA keeps the difference. That is an easy way to raise funds!

For example: Mr. & Mrs. Smith spend $500 a month in groceries from Jewel. When they purchase a $100 Jewel prepaid gift card to be used toward their monthly groceries, the Cowlishaw PTA receives 5% or $5. If they bought $500 of Jewel prepaid gift cards the Cowlishaw PTA would raise $25 and they still get the full value of $500!

The first order form is due Friday October 11th. Please return the completed order form and a check for your order amount made payable to the Mary Lou Cowlishaw Elementary PTA in an envelope and return it to school with your child no later than the indicated date. To receive your order please mark the form accordingly to either pick up from my house on the date shown below, or if the order should come home in backpack mail after that date. If necessary you can email me to make special arrangements. Please note however that the Manna program and the PTA are not responsible for lost gift cards from your child’s backpack.
