Asalam o Alakium

The DML serves the dual purpose of being a source of information

& a source of motivation as well for the Rotaract family. Making this

DML was a great experience. The projects by the clubs all across the

district gave me hope in our youth and its leadership skills.

I will end with a quote by John Bunyan which is fitting with the spirit of our organization; “You

have not lived today, until you do something for someone who will never be able to repay you

back”.

Yours in Rotaract

Rtr. Fatima Arif

DML Editor in Chief

Asalam o Alakium

Congratulations on having successful New Generation Month,

we had installation of three new Rotaract clubs this month. We

had a New Generation seminar where Rtr Saba Taj tells about

her RYLA USA experience. DGN Rtn Mir Arif Announced the

RYLA Lahore on 8th

to 10th

January 2005.

We had one of the worst floods in Punjab this month; I would like to appreciate the efforts of

Rotaract clubs that worked for the rehabilitation of the flood affected areas. I also urge all clubs to

participate and contribute in this regard and help the flood affected people.

Yours in Rotaract

September 2014

One of the great privileges of being president of Rotary International is having the chance to visit so many parts of the Rotary world. Usually I travel to participate in Rotary events; speak at

Rotary clubs, conferences, and institutes; and encourage Rotarians in their service. But as president, I am responsible for all branches of the Rotary family. This means that it is also my privilege to support the service of Rotary's youngest generations: our Rotaractors, Interactors,

Rotary Youth Exchange students, and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards participants.

When I see the work Rotarians do, I am always impressed, always excited, and always inspired.

When I see the work of our New Generations, I am all of this – and frequently I am surprised as well. Not by the quality of their work – for I have learned to expect great things from them – but by the creativity and ingenuity of their thinking. I look at what they have done and think not just

"What a great job!" but "What a great idea!" Because every generation sees the world in a unique way, and every individual has a unique point of view. Faced with the same problems, we arrive

at different solutions. This is why, in Rotary, our diversity – of culture, language, expertise, gender, and age – is our strength.

In Rotary, we try to take the long view in our service. We aspire to serve in ways that will make

a lasting difference, that will continue to have an impact after our participation ends. Our younger generations, in my experience, share this sentiment, and apply it globally, by focusing

on environmental issues in new and innovative ways. When I became a Rotarian, environmental issues were barely on our radar. To young people today, these concerns are front and center. Their perspective is a valuable contribution to the world of Rotary service, and it is one that we

should all encourage and support. Just as they are learning from us, so should we be learning from them.

The young people who are serving in Rotaract and Interact, and participating in Youth Exchange and RYLA today, are the Rotarians of tomorrow. When we support them, we are supporting the future of our entire organization. We are helping to train the men and women who will be the

club presidents, district governors, RI directors, and RI presidents of tomorrow.

RAC Chiniot

Flood Relief

Campaign

In the situation of worst

scaled calamity that has hit

our country especially the

areas of Punjab. Rotaract

Club of Chiniot took an

initiative to reach out the

victims and provide them

with any and all immediate

relief possible. The floods

ruined many villages of

Punjab but its magnitude

was high in Chiniot and

Jhang. We decided to send

relief goods in the required

quantity to the affected

areas which have been

temporarily cut off because

of land transportation

being hindered. However,

in such a time all the

Rotaractors and group

members provided us with

the assistance that we

never initially anticipated.

The flood relief campaign

in Chiniot began with

initial site surveys in

collaboration with District

team. RAC Chiniot

members visited the

affected areas and selected

those where government

and other organizations

failed to reach. Locations

in Tehsil Chiniot were

identified and an analysis

of necessary relief items

was conducted. We

selected three villages

namely Jamia Abad,

Muhamadi Sharif and

Dharota Kharna. Here,

more than 400 families

were affected. RAC

Chiniot distributed Rashan

Bags with the help of other

organizations. District

Government also

encouraged us and MNA

Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh gave

us a task to point out the

areas for rehabilitation of

ruined houses. They

showed his full confidence

in the members of RAC

Chiniot. We also put up a

medical camp in the

affected areas. This

campaign is still going on.

Celebration of World

Peace Day

RAC Chiniot celebrated

World Peace Day on club

level at TDCP restaurant

where all club members

shared their views about

peace in a city and also in

country.

RAC Lahore FCC

Forman Aspiring

Leader’s Conference

FALCON

The FCC MUN Society

hosted the Forman

Aspiring Leaders‟

Conference (FALCON),

on from 4 to 6 September

2014. After months of

planning and preparations

and a postponement, this

event finally took place as

the first event of the 2014-

2015 council.

Members of the Rotaract

Club of FCC were part of

its Socials and Creative

Team. The president of the

Rotaract Club was the

Director Socials and

Creative and led the team

wonderfully in very

challenging and exigent

circumstances.

Preparations were made

prior to the event after

collaborated efforts of the

entire team. The team

worked tirelessly for hours

in tough weather

conditions. Coincidentally,

the event dates fell on the

same dates as the torrential

downpours in Lahore.

Hence, the host team faced

many obstacles. However,

the first day of the event

started off reasonably well.

The Registration team

registered incoming

delegates promptly. The

Opening Ceremony took

place in Sinclair Hall

where the delegates were

welcomed, and the chairs,

the Executive Council, and

the host team directors

were introduced. After a

break, the introductory

committee sessions started.

Overall, it was a successful

first day, despite the

unpredictable weather..

The second day, the heavy

rains prevailed, but so did

the host team and

delegates. The Committee

sessions were very

productive and delegates

had rousing debates

throughout the day. Later,

the socials team showed

what they had in store for

everyone, a night full of

fun and exuberance. After

the sessions were finished,

DJ night and flash mob

provided an entertainment

outlet for everyone present

to relax and have a great

time.

On the third day, all of the

committees were active in

their sessions. Draft

resolutions were created

promptly and true

diplomacy was shown in

the sessions. During the

day, a Masters session took

place, where the chairs and

senior MUNers

participated in debate

themselves to demonstrate

the art of MUN

participation.

After the sessions had

ended the socials team

welcomed everyone to the

closing ceremony and

results announcement took

place. The evening was

themed around the Oscar

Awards which gave

everyone an opportunity to

dress up.

The Best Delegates,

Honorable Mentions and

the Outstanding

Diplomacy awards were

handed out.

The committees and host

team worked hard to make

it a successful and unique

event.

CSS Guest Speaker

Session.

Rotaract Club of Forman

Christian made inordinate

efforts to arrange an

informative and interactive

session at FCCU on Civil

Superior Services of

Pakistan.

On 15th September the

management of Rotaract

Club of FCC invited over a

proud Ravian. A person

who has achieved roll of

honor in co-curricular

activities and has always

excelled at parliamentary

debates at various national

levels. He, who scored

seventeenth position

nationwide in this year‟s

CSS examination, was Sir

Zulqarnain Chheena.

The event was organized in

the auditorium of Elahi

block of FCC. A large

number of people had

gathered at the venue

before the event had even

begun. This crowd had

humongous fervor and

their high spirits were very

evident by no vacant seats

in the auditorium. The

floor of the auditorium and

even the stage was full of

students, all just waiting

for the distinguished guest.

The Rotaractors of FCC

warmly welcomed the

guest. The event

commenced with the

recitation of the Holy

Quran after which the host

introduced Sir Zulqarnain

Cheena to the audience by

mentioning all of his

achievements and

credentials.

He began his lecture by

greeting the audience. He

felt motivated by seeing

the Formanites so

enthusiastic. He said that

for CSS both preparation

and passion are necessary,

there needs to be a balance

among them. He

expounded that one should

never be overwhelmed by

this examination, it‟s just a

test. Though sometimes it

is too much to cope up

with but one needs to have

that focus, strength,

patience and determination

to keep on going.

He advised everyone that

they shouldn‟t bit off more

than they can chew. The

aim of an assessment like

CSS is to find „Problem

Solvers.‟ The most

important attribute that

such people need to have is

„Clarity of Thought‟ for

both the assessment and its

practical application as

well.

He emphasized on the

verity of such a lengthy

and daunting examination

to test the mental and

physical endurance of a

person. It questions how a

person works under the

domino effect of such

stress and burden using

one‟s administrative and

management skills.

Selection of subjects for

CSS is crucial for which

one has to be very tactical

and adaptive.

Club Reports

Page 11: October DML issue#4

He clarified the

misconceptions people had

about the CSS examination

in the question and answer

session.

He accentuated that

there‟re no universal laws

when it comes to the

selection of subjects and

preparation of CSS. He

stressed that interpretation

matters. One has to

approach things with the

aim of learning and

retaining it. For

controversial subjects like

Islamiyat and Political

Science one shouldn‟t be

opinionated or biased.

Students had a lot of

questions to ask but due to

the shortage of time, he

had to end the lecture. He

left after thanking the

management of Rotaract

Club of FCC and wishing

them well.

Fawad Hussain’s

Speaker Session

Chaudhary Fawad

Hussain, a renowned

analyst and lawyer was

welcomed to Forman

Christian College by its

Rotaract Club on 1st

October.

He was asked to shed some

light on the topic, “What

we have achieved as a

nation from 1947 till now.”

He initiated his lecture

with a question, “Is the

journey of Pakistan of 67

years, all in vain?”

throughout the lecture he

was very optimistic about

Pakistan and its future

explaining that emergence

of a Muslim state like

Pakistan was an unusual

turn of events for the

world. Our country came

into existence in an un-

natural state having no

proper basic infrastructure.

Pakistan had no definitive

bureaucracy or

administration.

He enlightened the minds

of the students with facts

about Pakistan. He

mentioned that Pakistan

started off with only about

ninety five officers in its

civil services. He pointed

out the fact that after

Jinnah‟s tragic demise

Pakistan and its nation lost

not only their leader but

also the direction. All of

these events ultimately led

to the emergence of middle

class.

Trying to urge a patriotic

spirit in the students he

tried portraying the picture

of a stable and unwavering

Pakistan. He admitted that

right now the odds are

against us but we need to

beat the odds in order to

succeed and excel.

He very briefly

summarized all the socio

economic issues, the

political instability, flaws

of democracy and

administrative glitches.

Club Reports

Page 12: October DML issue#4

A lot of wise and rationale

questions were asked by

the students to which the

guest catered very well. He

was sensible to tackle all

the interrogations and

queries without showing

any politically bias in order

to maintain the decorum

and spirit of this interactive

lecture.

Throughout his lecture he

was tremendously

collaborative. He even

joked and mocked from

time to time. He thanked

Formanites for their active

partaking.

Afterwards he shared

snacks and some

refreshments with the

management of Rotaract

Club of FCC and left after

giving his warm and

heartiest best wishes to

everyone.

Medical Camp in

Kukmong

The Rotaract Club of

Abbottabad arranged a free

medical camp in Patthar

Gali, Village Kukmong on

28th September 2014. The

project happened with the

collaboration between

Rotaract Club, Shimla

Welfare Organization and

Shafaida Feroze Welfare

Organization. The aim of

organizing this event was

to extend medical aid and

advice to the peripheral

areas that are not equipped

with reliable medical

facilities.

The team of people

visiting the area included

TMOs, House Officers and

students of Ayub Medical

College, Abbottabad along

with a considerable

number of Rotaract

members from the

community. The

destination was reached at

around 11 am, and the

camp was set into motion

about half an hour later.

The Middle School of

Kukmong provided the

venue for holding the

event. OPDs of various

specialties were set up,

which included Medicine,

Surgery, Gynecology,

Pediatrics, Eye and

Dentistry. A huge number

of the local population

thronged to get a free

medical check-up,

presenting with various

complaints. The patients

were forwarded to a

specific OPD by the filter

OPD. They were then not

only given apt advice and

prescriptions, but were also

provided with medicine –

at a fixed rate of 10 rupees.

The medicines brought

along were antibiotics,

proton pump inhibitors,

multi-vitamins, analgesics,

inflammatory, anti-

diabetics – and gave polio

along with a number of

other medications.

The maximum number of

patients presented general

medical complaints; hence

the Medical OPD saw the

most traffic. The most

common complaints of the

patients came out to be

generalized weakness,

body pains and stomach

ache. The patients who

came with complex

complaints, or demanded

investigative/advanced

facilities like ultrasound

scan or specific tests were

referred to a tertiary care

hospital accordingly.

The medical camp kept

serving the patients for

almost five hours,

afterwards the team

decided to call it a day

when the patients had all

been served and dealt with.

More than 350 patients

were served via this camp,

the record of whom is

available.

The local population was

extremely grateful to the

visiting team for holding

this camp in their area and

thus serving these people.

The team left the place

Rotaractors of UET

Peshawar were invited to

Defense Day at Sher Khan

Stadium Peshawar. Few

members went there and

celebrated Defense Day

with Pakistan Army. The

Rotaractors attended a

seminar which showed

how their equipment is the

real purpose to celebrate

this day with those people

who have been protecting

our mother land to ensure

them that they‟re not

alone.

Our Club members

introduced Rotaract there.

Pictures with the officials

were not allowed due to

security reason however

we took pictures with

simple soldiers who were

in national dress (shalwar

Kameez).

Meeting to start up

project

A meeting was called to

keep Rotaracting and we

discussed about two

projects. One was about

arranging an information

desk for the juniors and

second was about

arranging a stall in a

funfair which is to be held

in Peshawar to raise funds

for the upcoming projects

as all of our club members

are students who do not

have too much finance.

Orientation and

Information Desk

(Club Promotion)

For the first year students

on their first day Rotaract

Club of UET Peshawar

arranged an information

desk to guide new comer

students, Rotaractors

helped them providing

their schedules and

information. In this way

we promoted our club in

the university and new

comers were impressed by

seeing that Rotaract is the

only welfare club in UET.

Stall for Fund

Raising

A funfair was organized by

UETians in Peshawar. As

Rotaractors of UET

Peshawar are students,

they do not have too much

money to initiate welfare

projects. Our club

members arranged a stall

and entertained organizers

by different games and

promoted Rotaract Club of

UET Peshawar in yhis

grand funfair. Besides that

they painted their faces

with “END POLIO

NOW” and promoted

awareness about polio.

Clothes packing and

collection

A new project was initiated

in which we collected

those clothes which every

person uses rarely. All the

clothes were almost new.

After collecting the clothes

they were taken for dry

cleaning and were later

packed in proper packing.

After collection and

packing these clothes were

distributed in class four

servants of UET and they

were very happy as they

did not feel it necessary to

buy new clothes for Eid.

The remaining clothes

were taken to Jalozia

Refugees Camp but there

were more than 9000

people living in that camp

and we could not distribute

because we had clothes in

hundreds and they were in

thousands and at last we

had to give them to

administration to distribute

among the most deserving

people. We are also

planning a medical camp

for those deserving people

for which we need District

help.

ZRR Nayela Naviz’s

Official meeting with

Rotaract Club of

UET Peshawar

On the directions given by

ZRR, we arranged an

official meeting for ZRR in

which we briefed her about

our club activities and she

discussed the first zonal

conference with us and it

was an honor for us that

she started the zonal

conference in our meeting

and made a team of five

members from our club.

In the end ZRR was served

with refreshments.

EID Gifts

distribution amongst

Thalassemia Patients

Eid is about caring for

others and sharing the love

with those who are

deprived of it. Rotaract

Club of UET Peshawar

with the collaboration of

National Academy of

Young Scientists (NAYS)

celebrated this Chaand

Raat with Thalassemia

Patients at Fatmid and

Hamza Foundation,

Peshawar. Gifts were

distributed among kids and

the smile on the faces of

the kids was priceless.

Fathmid Foundation

There were about 50

patients in Fathmid

Foundation and they were

all given different gifts.

Hamza Foundation

Remaining 40 gifts were

distributed in the patients

of Hamza Foundation.

Teachers’ Day

Celebration

Teacher is given the place

of spiritual parents in

Islam. All developed

nations know the value and

respect of a teacher in the

society and this is the

reason that they are in that

place.

5th October is celebrated as

Teacher‟s Day all over the

World. Due to Sunday and

Eid in KPK on 5th October,

Rotaract Club of UET

Peshawar celebrated

Teacher‟s Day 2 days

earlier meaning on 3rd

October and wished all the

teachers the Teacher‟s Day

and gave advance Eid

Greetings.

Note: RAC Peshawar UET

submitted report after deadline

that’s why we didn’t consider

them for any major district

awards.
