LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, As many of you know for the last two years the parish has been exploring creating a Master Plan [see in church] . Recently, our partners, Institute of School and Parish Development [ISPD] conducted feasibility interviews with nearly 100 parishioner families about this Master Plan. As a result of this work and the previous two years of Master Plan hearing sessions and study, it is the belief of ISPD that a Capital Campaign at SJV will be successful at raising between $2.3 and $2.7 million over a three year period. With this information, the Master Plan Committee recommended to me that we begin organizing a Capital Campaign to raise $3 million over three years to accomplish the following three main projects: finish paying the current parish debt; build a parish gymnasium; build a covered walkway/ drop off for Church. The organizational phase of this project has begun. These are exciting times for us. This coming week, I will be attending for the Diocese the national meeting of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. This grassroots organization operates in service of the US Bishops and played a key role in the preparations to implement the new translation of the Roman Missal. Keep in mind the upcoming parish events: Christ Renews His Parish Women’s retreat is next weekend; at the end of the month, Friday, October 28th, Gator Fest; Saturday, October 29th, Parish Dance; Sunday, October 30th, Parish Family Fest Picnic. Watch for details. Have a happy week ahead! Love,

Youth Ministry SJV Youth Ministry will be hosting four evenings of faith sharing surrounding the new

translation of the Roman Missal for the whole parish (youth and adults) in during the next few Sunday evenings from 6:45-8:30pm in Fr. Engels hall. October 16th - Everything Changes. This session examines how we deal with change and reminds us of the constancy of an unchanging God. October 23rd - Words, Words, and The Word. This session looks at the importance of words in our culture and compares our words to the power of the Word of God, Jesus Christ. November 13th - New Words, Same Mass. This session ties together the first two sessions and un-packs the specifics of the new Roman Missal and what will be changing in the Mass. November 20th - MASSive Transformation. AWAKENING FAITH Representatives from Awakening Faith/Catholics Come Home at SJV Outdoor Mass—October 30th People have a need to talk about their faith with other people. Making connections with other Catholics is one of the goals of SJV’s Awakening Faith Ministry, an extension of Catholics Come Home Program. The ministry seeks to provide a casual, nonjudgmental setting where Catholics who have been away from the practice of their faith can share, listen, and learn from one another. We meet every Monday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at CC’s on Coursey Blvd. If you know some family members, friends, and neighbors who could benefit from reconnecting with the Catholic faith, INVITE them to the SJV Picnic and Family Fest on October 30th. ENCOURAGE them to come with you to the outdoor mass. LEAD them to the tables to get a name tag and pick up a reminder of Awakening Faith opportunities. OFFER to come with them to CC’s. HELP renew someone’s faith.

A REFLECTION ON THIS WEEK’S SCRIPTURES

Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Matthew 22:1-14 Over and over again in the Gospel of Matthew, we are given a warning. Even though the reign of God is meant to include us, if we do not shape up and embrace the message of Jesus, we will be dropped from the guest list! Who is calling you? This text from Matthew makes it clear that, indeed, the king has sent servants to summon you. By baptism you have been initiated, and are a member of the Church. But now the bur-den is on you to listen to the king’s servants, to re-spond to their call, and to come to the feast. Now is the time to join the celebration! How do I hear God’s invitation to the wedding feast? Who is calling me? How will I respond? How can we as a community echo the teaching of Jesus in this parable? Lord this week let me…….

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS

Elizabeth Ministry Rosebud Program Our parish’s Elizabeth Ministry is expanding to include the Rosebud Program, a unique way to show dignity and worth for all life. During the month of October, Respect Life Month, in Mary’s Chapel, you will find our display with instructions about how the program works. If you have one of these special needs, please select the appropriate color-coded silk rose and place in the vase provided. Each week, we will pray for one of the needs according to the color of a live rose, which will be in a separate vase near the display CROP Hunger Walk – October 16th , 2:30 p.m. The purpose of this walk is to raise awareness and funds to make a difference in the lives of hungry and impoverished people locally and around the world.
