From the Pastor:
November 1st is the Feast of All Saints and is a
Holy Day of Obligation.
Mass Times:
Vigil - Monday, October 31st at 5:00 pm
November 1st: 6:45 & 8:30 am, 12:00 & 7:00 pm
November 2nd is the Feast of All Souls and is
also the start of our All Souls Novena, a nine-day
prayer for all of our beloved dead. You are
invited to specifically include your own intentions
for the faithfully departed. You can list the names
of those you wish included in this special prayer
by using the envelope in your regular envelope
pack or by using one of the envelopes available in the Narthex.
Beginning the first Sunday of Advent, you will be able to
find the Parish announcements for the upcoming week
on the parish website and available on the parish mobile
app. We will no longer be reading the announcements
at the end of Mass.
So that we can be sure to have all the announcements
available to the parish, they must be submitted to Chris
Simons ([email protected]) by Wednesday
afternoon for the next weekend. If you have not
installed the parish mobile app on your device, just go
to your App Store and search St. Peter Chanel Catholic
Church and you can download it for free. All the
parish weekly announcements will be available on the
front page of the website under Parish Headlines.
In November, we celebrate All Saints and All Souls Day.
While we rejoice in our Communion with the Saints, as
Catholics, we also have a tradition of praying for and
remembering those who have died. For those who die
repentant, but have not made up for their sins or
purified their hearts, the Church believes in a state of
purification after death called Purgatory (from a word
meaning “to purify”). Even though that name developed
only in the 13th century, Christians from the very
beginning manifested their faith in this state of
purification by praying for those who have died. This is
not to say that we judge those who have died, but
rather, we pray for them as an act of love and because
we can pray for them.
We pray with confidence because it all relates to God’s
love and grace, that the souls of the departed be
enfolded in God’s embrace and kept eternally secure.
The Mass, of course, is the absolute best prayer for the
dead. It makes the redemptive sacrifice of Christ
present again on the altar, and in God’s gracious
providence, allows you to ask that this redemptive
power be applied to the one for whom you pray.
Also, those who have died can also pray for you.
Similarly, your prayers for anyone who is already fully
and eternally united to God in love are not wasted. All
prayer is powerful, and in this case, your prayer will
return in the form of unknown and unpredictable
blessings on you and your world.
Today, we wish Fr. Llane our prayers and best wishes
on his new assignment as temporary administrator of
St. Theresa’s in Douglasville. Many of you already knew
that Father would be leaving us in June, for an
assignment as a professor at the Regional Seminary of
St. Vincent de Paul in Boynton Beach, FL, where he will
be teaching and training our future priests. I want to
take this opportunity on behalf of the Archdiocese, to
thank you for your support of all the priests who have
been assigned here at St. Peter Chanel. You are
important in the formation and experiences of our
seminarians and priests.
Until June, Fr. Llane Briese’s address will be:
St. Theresa’s Catholic Church
5626 Shamrock Lane
Douglasville, GA 30135
See you at Mass,

Unbaptized Adults to Celebrate the
Rite of Acceptance with St. Peter Chanel Parishioners!
Twenty-four adults have been
journeying in the RCIA process for
about 10 weeks, in a period of
inquiry, discerning the decision to
become Catholic. During this time
they have been learning about and
sharing their thoughts on who God
is, and how He calls us to respond
to His unconditional love. Nine of
these inquirers are not baptized and
will have the opportunity to
celebrate the Rite of Acceptance on
Sunday, November 13th, at the 9:00
am Mass. The St. Peter Chanel
community will wrap them in prayer
as they publicly declare their
intention to follow Jesus Christ in
the Catholic Church. This step
places them in a formal relationship
with the universal Church, and is
the first gateway in the process
leading them to becoming members
of God’s family, to join us as we
receive Jesus in Word and
Sacrament, in the Mass. Please keep
them in your prayers: Mike,
Barclay, Chris, Leigh, Mariel,
Heather, Daniel, Colin and Eli.
