FAMILY PROMISE OF ST TAMMANY

1,124–The number of children identified by the St. Tammany school system as homeless. Their parents choose to be “invisible” in order to keep their families together. But just because you can’t see a problem doesn’t mean it is not real. Most of these families have hard-working parents who simply can’t make ends meet to pay their rent or mortgage. At Family Promise we're doing everything we can to help thesefamilies and their children get back on their feet, emotionally, financially, mentally andspiritually.Family Promise of St. Tammany is one of 192 local Family Promise affiliates across 41 states. It provides homeless children and their families with safe & comfortable shelter, meals, and compassionate support. Local congregations throughout St. Tammany Parish host up to five families (14 people) at a time on a weekly rotating schedule. Host congregation volunteersmay share meals and fellowship with families, play with and tutor the children, and actas overnight hosts. During the day, families in the program receive social service and job counseling as well as casework assistance at the Family Promise Day Center. At FBC Covington, we strive to make a difference in our community – by following the directive in Matthew 25:35 ~ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited me in. Our church will host families 4 times each year; 2 weeks in the Spring, and 2 weeks in the Fall coming up October 15-22 and November 5-12. We NEED volunteers to help! – please email Gloria Pittman at [email protected]. or Jackie Clark at [email protected]. There will also be a sign-up/information table in the Steeple Foyer on Sunday, October 1st & 8th. For more information on Family Promise please visit their website at fpstp.org
