October 27, 2017 Message from the Principal Box Tops competition is over! We collected more than 5,000 Box Tops!!! The pancake party goes to Mrs. Miller’s class that collected over 1,000 Box Tops. As a school we will be having our pajama day on Tuesday, October 31 st . We do go outside for recess so please plan accordingly. Parent Teacher Conferences will be on November 8 th and 9 th . Sign-up now by calling Ms. Vickie at 541-790-3417. Free and Reduced Lunch applications have to be completed every year! You can get a hardcopy of the application in the front office or you can apply online at https://district.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp/ Lost and Found clothing is starting to accumulate. Please label your student’s coats, jackets, hoodies, gloves, hats, and anything that is generally put on for recess. We do try to unite the clothing with the student if we can figure out who it belongs too. Feel free to check the lost and found, it is located in the cafeteria near the stage. Veteran stars are in your Friday Folder. These stars are an opportunity for you and your family to honor a person in your life that has served in the Armed Forces. Please decorate them and return them to school right away. We will be displaying them in our hallway. If you need more stars just let us know. Thank you for all of your support. All proceeds go to the non-profit organization “Friends of Buyijja.” The funds will be used for school supplies for kids a the Buyijja School in Uganda, Africa. This fundraiser is run by Mrs. Miller’s class and their goal is to raise $1,800 and all contributions are tax deductible. Thank you for your support! Teacher Contact before 8:00-8:30 am is by appointment only. This time is protected time for our teachers to plan and collaborate with their colleagues not to mention finalizing plans for the day. Halloween at Twin Oaks is not recognized as a holiday. We ask that no student wear a costume of any kind on Tuesday, October 31st. We don’t have parties, trick-or-treating, or anything traditionally associated with Halloween. We have the Harvest Party which is a great place for students to showoff, their costumes to their friends and teachers. Reading and Math Intervention The CTL Clinic is accepting applications for our after-school reading and math intervention services. Here is what you need to know:

• There is a fee for services. • Clinic will run for 4 or 8 weeks. • We provide reading and math intervention. • We are adding dyslexia assessments to our services. • We provide services to students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. • All services are provided as one-on-one tutoring.

We enroll students on a first-come first-serve basis. Criteria for services are:

• The child is performing below grade level in reading. • The child is performing below grade level in math. • The child places into our curriculum when assessed.

If you are interested please contact Anna Ingram ([email protected]) with questions or to submit an application. If they reach capacity they will add eligible students to a waitlist. 4J Parent Leaders Network - is an a volunteer network connecting parent organization leaders for mutual support. We share resources, ideas, and best practices to support the involvement of parents and families in the education of their children. 2017-2018 Meetings -Our meetings for the 2017-2018 school year will take place at the District Office at 200 North Monroe Street. Take away tools will be provided. Monday, October 30, 2017 – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 – 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Each meeting will include a 40-minute training topic and a 20-minute information presentation from Eugene School District 4J Superintendent Dr. Gustavo Balderas, Elementary Director Brooke Wagner, and Secondary Director BJ Blake. Estamos pidiendo una donación de $ 5 por una pulsera de "Paz-Esperanza-Amor". Todos los ingresos van a la organización "Friends of Buyijja". Tuvimos la fiesta de la cosecha para que los estudiantes enseñaran sus disfraces a sus amigos y maestros. Intervención de Lectura y Matemáticas La Clínica CTL está aceptando solicitudes para los servicios de intervención de lectura y matemáticas después de la escuela.
