Let Your Good Deeds Shine By Mary Martha Primerano Matt. 5:14 "You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 in the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." I get it! After reading Matt. 5, it becomes very clear to me that Jesus is instructing us to stay fresh, full of flavor, salty. He shares how we can keep our flavor as Christ followers. That is by living a life of faith through good deeds. By reaching out to the lost and hurt-ing. Don't allow another year of being a bench warmer at church, but obey Jesus and be a light to this dark world. Don't think: I'm not ready to go out there, I'm afraid, I don't have anything to share, my own life is not healed yet of my own hurt emotions. Don't navel gaze. Instead, think how God thinks. Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or dis-couraged for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go! Joshua 1:9. Determine in your heart that you will not miss out on God's best this year. I once heard that God is not looking for ability but for availability. How about you? Yes you! Is He tugging at your heart? the bible says "If any of you wants to be my follower you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow me... if you give up your life (Saturday mornings) for my sake, and for the sake of the Good news, you will find true life." True life! That is His promise, and you can bank on it, and believe me God is not a liar. Call Breaking Bread and set a date to help us spread the Gospel to the hurt-ing. Your life will never be the same

UN NACIMIENTO EXTRAÑO

Jn 1, 1-18.- Hemos venido a esta Eucaristía para celebrar la

fiesta de Navidad. ¿Y qué celebramos en Navidad? Celebramos

el nacimiento de un niño, pero no de un niño común, sino de un

Niño que es Dios. Ahora, si comparamos este nacimiento con

otros nacimientos, p.ej. con el de nuestros hijos, entonces nota-

mos algunas cosas extrañas. Este niño nace en condiciones

sorprendentes, desconcertantes y hasta chocantes - ya que se

trata del Hijo de Dios.

Una primera condición extraña. Se da a conocer a los pastores.

Vino a la tierra. No previno a los grandes. No avisó a los pode-

rosos. No hizo saber nada a los sacerdotes. Ha tirado por tierra

a la jerarquía. No hubo conferencia de prensa para anunciar al

mundo un suceso de tal categoría. Y sin embargo tenía sumo

interés de que alguien lo supiera. Alguien tenía derecho a ser el

primero en conocer la noticia. Y manda sus mensajeros a unos

pastores que acampan cerca de la ciudad guardando sus reba-

ños. Los pastores viven al margen de la sociedad y muchas

veces también al margen de la religión. Son incultos, no cono-

cen la ley, y por eso están destinados al infierno, según los fari-

seos. Y precisamente a estos “excomulgados” es a quienes

Cristo envía sus ángeles para anunciarles su venida. Es que

Jesús quiere poner las cosas en claro desde el comienzo. Él ve

todo al revés. A sus ojos, los grandes son los pequeños. Los

últimos son los primeros. Los arrojados de la sociedad, sus

clientes privilegiados. La Buena Nueva se comunica antes que

a nadie y llega a pertenecer primero a aquellos que están

“fuera”.

Una segunda circunstancia extraña. No es reconocido por los

hombres. A veces envidiamos la suerte de los contemporáneos

de Jesús. Creemos que, si hubiéramos vivido junto con Él, lo

habríamos reconocido y, por consiguiente, hubiéramos cambia-

do verdaderamente nuestra vida. Pero, probablemente no nos

habríamos dado cuenta de que Él estaba presente, y aunque Él

nos lo hubiera dicho, no lo habríamos creído. Pensemos p.ej. en

los posaderos de Belén. Si hubieran sabido que Dios estaba allí,

le habrían abierto la puerta, lo habrían acogido. Porque eran

personas religiosas, como nosotros. Pero creyeron que se trata-

ba de vagabundos, de refugiados de quién sabe dónde, un par

de desconocidos. Y no los quisieron recibir. Y nosotros, ¿los

hubiéramos recibido? ¿Cómo creer que Dios podría presentár-

senos bajo esa forma? Alguna vez se me ocurre pensar que en

Navidad bastaría con que Cristo se presentara de verdad en

nuestra casa, para que en el mismo momento se terminara para

nosotros la fiesta. Imaginémonos que Jesús se presentara de

sorpresa en nuestra casa bajo las apariencias de unos refugia-

dos, o de un niño sucio y hambriento, o de un viejo mendigo

enfermo que viniera para morir entre nosotros. Allí se estropea-

ría nuestra Navidad. Y Jesús, probablemente, se quedaría solo,

sin que nadie le dirigiera la palabra o le dedicara una sonrisa.

Es que nadie le reconocería, ni querría reconocerlo. Porque el

verdadero Cristo, el verdadero Dios, es a veces bastante moles-

to.

Una tercera circunstancia extraña del nacimiento. Es Dios y

nace en la miseria. Dios es totalmente distinto de cómo nos lo

imaginamos; Dios es todo lo contrario al poder, a la majestad, a

la autoridad, a la riqueza, a la fuerza que le hemos atribuido.

Pero Dios es totalmente semejante a los sencillos, a los pobres,

a los que se sienten hermanos, a los misericordiosos, a los que

aman, a los que tienen hambre de justicia. No es que Cristo no

sea un hombre como nosotros, sino que es tan hombre, el único

verdadero hombre: verdaderamente libre, sencillo, amante, fiel,

disponible. La Buena Nueva que anuncia Navidad, consiste en

eso. Para asemejarnos a Dios, no tenemos que hacernos ricos,

fuertes, solitarios o majestuosos. Nos basta con amar un poco

más, con servir un poco más, con acercarnos más a los pobres,

con luchar un poco más por la justicia. Podemos convertirnos

en Cristo en seguida, en nuestra misma situación, en nuestro

nivel social o cultural. Sin aguardar visiones o milagros - sino

haciéndonos los últimos de todos y los servidores de todos.

Dios es pobre: pobre de todas esas cosas que ambicionamos,

que buscamos, que pretendemos. Y no digamos que Dios se

oculta o está ausente del mundo. Dios está extraordinariamente

presente y visible: tan presente y tan visible - o tan poco pre-

sente y tan poco visible como lo están, en nuestra vida, los po-

bres. Queridos hermanos, si queremos encontrarnos con el ver-

dadero Dios que en Navidad viene a nosotros, hemos de ir a

encontrarnos con los pobres. Y cuando nos arrodillamos ante la

infinita majestad de nuestro Dios en el pesebre, nos encontra-

mos de rodillas ante la inmensidad de la miseria humana. Y si

entonces ese amor a los desdichados nace en nosotros, Dios se

hace presente realmente en nuestro corazón. Esa es la Navidad

que hemos de hacer. Esa es la Navidad verdadera en la que

hemos de creer. Somos responsables de que se haga esa Navi-

dad en todas partes.

¡Qué así sea! En el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espí-ritu Santo. Amén.
