Objectives1. Discuss the knowledge and

strategies needed to successfully prepare for the certification exam for Nursing Professional Development (NPD).

2. Describe the foundations for NPD practice.

3. Identify the steps and key elements in the educational process.

4. Compare and contrast the various roles and skills of the nursing professional development (NPD) specialist.

5. Discuss critical elements for managing and implementing education activities.

6. Develop a personalized plan for continued preparation by completing and reviewing a practice test.

Jo-Ann is the Director of the Maternal/Child Division at JFK Medical Center and faculty at Saint Peters University. Jo-Ann earned her doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ where she completed her original research on the relationship between the generation of a nurse and their learning style at a large medical center. She has vast experience in staff development, certification preparation, magnet coordination, maternal/child health and adult nursing practice. She has been a clinical educator, manager, director of organizational and nursing education and consultant for her own firm. She is certified in Nursing Professional Development, Inpatient Obstetrics and as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Jo-Ann has published numerous articles, presented nationally on various staff development topics and authored a chapter for NNSDO’s Core Curriculum for Staff Development (3rd ed.). She is the past-president of the Bergen/Passaic Nurse Educators Group, an ANPD affiliate. Jo-Ann was recognized by ANPD for Nursing Excellence in the area of Professional Development Leadership and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and Pi Lambda Theta, the International Honor Society in Education.

This course also provides foundational knowledge for those new to nursing professional development.

Target Audience Registered nurses preparing for

certification in Nursing Professional Development,

RNs new to the NPD role, RNs desiring additional education in NPD

processes.

Association for Nursing Professional Development is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Attendance for two entire days of the course is required for contact hours – no partial credit.
