Our EventsFor the last three years each of the Foundation’s events has been directed towards the new Emergency Department expansion at NRGH; the 2012/13 fiscal year was no different! The Foundation’s goal to raise $4 million for new equipment was largely aided by all lottery tickets sold, run registrations & pledges, and golf participation. These have been key events in the success of the campaign and we thank you for your help.

In September 2012 the 19th Golf for Life Charity Classic welcomed a full contingent of golfers and raised more than $95,500. In January 2013 tickets went on sale for our 20th Lotto for Life fundraiser. Ticket sales were down slightly from the previous year, 4,524 of the 5,000 available tickets sold – that’s 91%. Wayne and Clara Newman of Qualicum Beach were the lucky winners of the $100,000 Grand Prize! In May we co-hosted the most successful Run for Life to date in partnership with Financial Institutions from across Central Vancouver Island. The 10th Annual Run raised $32,000 thanks to 200 enthusiastic participants and their pledges, and 40 volunteers! It is thanks to each of our supporters that we are able to fund healthcare care. Thank you for seeing a need and stepping forward to help.

Facts & Figures• Over 25,500 donors have given more than $40 million to the Foundation since 1991.

• 122 volunteers devoted nearly 4,600 hours in 2012/13...a labour value of nearly $58,000.

• 6,185 donors gave over $3.8 million in 2012/13.

• 5,975 individuals contributed over $3 million in 2012/13. • 69 community organizations and service clubs contributed over $430,000 in 2012/13. • 134 companies contributed over $275,000 in 2012/13. • 7 separate foundations contributed over $45,000 in 2012/13.

• Donations arrived from a variety of places, but the majority of supporters are on Central Vancouver Island:

• Bowser - 15 donors • Nanoose Bay - 225 donors • Cedar - 6 donors • Parksville - 561 donors • Gabriola Island - 92 donors • Port Alberni - 62 donors • Ladysmith - 241 donors • Qualicum Beach - 439 donors • Lantzville - 153 donors • Other Communities - 946 donors • Nanaimo - 3,445 donors

The Foundation Family Code Brew Code Brew is the coffee kiosk conveniently located in the lobby of NRGH. It is also owned and operated by the Foundation. Code Brew is special for many reasons. Namely, it often provides first-time employment to many high school students, but it is also staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers who give time and energy for healthcare.

Code Brew is also a revenue generating business and all proceeds are reinvested back into healthcare. Staff, patients, and visitors are literally fundraising when they stop by for a coffee and a snack. The coffee kiosk averaged 409 customers a day over the last fiscal-year (July 1st, 2012 – June 30th, 2013). They sold almost a quarter of a million food items last year, which included 75,000 cups of coffee.

The Nanaimo Lifeline Program is owned and operated by the Hospital Foundation. In the last fiscal year, our Lifeline Program achieved a net growth of 49 clients. This is the result of 509 new installations and 460 units returned for various reasons. This high rate of return is normal as a majority of our clients are between the ages of 80 and 106. The graph indicates that net growth occurred in District 69 or Oceanside area, where the percentage of total clients rose from 31% to 33%. The Foundation also has a Silent Guardian Fund if donors would like to support seniors who cannot afford the Lifeline montly fee.
