Science DaySustainable Sound

On Monday the 18th of October we had our annual science day, with the theme thisyear being ‘Sound’. Pupils learnt that sounds are made by vibrations, andvibrations care caused by hitting, blowing, plucking or shaking things. Theylearnt that sound needs a medium to travel in, and that it travels faster in solidsthan liquids, and liquids than gases.

Pupils undertook experiments with sound and made instruments which could varyin pitch and amplitude. Pupils made cup telephones and straw reeds. They hada ‘sound quiz’ which is actually quite difficult, and then made their owninstruments from materials that would have otherwise been thrown in the bin.

All houses performedreally well in what was a very difficult task, but there can only be one winner, and that was Chao Praya. Well done to all pupils who showed creativity andinsight throughout the very noisy day!
