Hello Friends and Families of Lord of Life! My earliest memory of giving to church is of my Dad putting an envelope in the offering plate every Sunday. It didn’t matter if we were home or visiting family, he always put an envelope in the offering plate. If we were visiting grandparents, I remember them pulling a dollar bill out for each of us grandkids to put in the offering plate. In retrospect, they were helping to model generosity for us kids. They also gave of their time to serve on committees, sing in the choir, and my favorite was helping my Grandpa greet and ring the bell to call everyone to church every Sunday. I think we were like most families, we never really talked about money. I don’t know how much they were giving in the envelopes and that wasn’t the point. The purpose of them making a weekly donation to the church was to faithfully support the ministries and mission of the church. The abundance God had given us as a family was not a lot, it was enough. Enough that we could gladly share it back. Everything we have in this world is because God has made it possible. You could say that we owe it to him to give back as he first gave to us. There are several bible passages on giving that I could quote, and maybe I’m supposed to for a church newsletter article. I would rather highlight the good that comes from your generous support of the ministries here at Lord of Life. By the numbers we have 18 ministries. Each of these ministries perform God’s work here in some way or another. Let’s take Ladies of Lydia for instance. They donate their time to knit blankets, shawls and squares. They quilt beautiful quilts. The whole time they are doing this they pray that God will comfort, strengthen and guide those that receive the items they make. In 2015, we had a business partner that was trying to kick us out and ruin us financially. Being on the brink of what seemed like utter destruc-tion, I asked Pastor Stacy for prayers of support. She gave me two knitted squares, one for me and one for Becky. That square saved me. I kept mine in my pocket every day. When events of the day would have a challenging turn to them, I could take ahold of that square and be reassured that God was with us. I’m grateful to this day that the Ladies of Lydia took their time and talents to prayerfully make those squares to help others needing some reassurance. A couple of years ago, I have a friend that was going through a tough time with family medical issues. I took the square out and gave it to her. She needed to know that she was being prayed for and God was with her, more than I needed it. All thanks to a ministry at Lord of Life. And so we enter the time of our annual stewardship appeal. Moving forward we a looking at using stewardship to teach and grow generosity. The world needs more sharing of time, talent, and re-sources. We as a people can do like my parents did, model generosity for others to see. You may nev-er know how your shared gift will impact someone else for the better. We will be informing you more about generosity and its impact on others here at Lord of Life. Later this month you will be receiving an Intent Commitment Card to fill out and return to the church by November 7th. We ask that you pray over each other, Lord of Life and our community. May we all find ourselves the God’s abundance and share what we have with others. Your generosity clearly shows God’s love to the world. Blessings, Russ Brewer

PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3

May this prayer be our prayer, as individuals, families and as the people of God at Lord of Life.

-Pastor Carol

We arrange our lives as best we can, to keep your holiness at bay, with our pieties, our doctrines, our liturgies, our moralities, our secret ideologies, Safe, virtuous, settled. And then you — you and your dreams, you and your visions, you and your purposes, you and your commands, you and our neighbors. We find your holiness not at bay, but probing, pervading, insisting, demanding. And we yield, sometimes gladly, sometimes resentfully, sometimes late…or soon. We yield because you, beyond us, are our God. We are your creatures met by your holiness, by your holiness made our true selves. And we yield. Amen.

numbers are based on our annual budget divided by

12 months. We had several larger than usual expendi-tures early in the year, such as staff bonuses and extra

donations to outside organizations, which cause

the difference between income and expenses to

look severely unbalanced. It will even out as the year

progresses. We are so grateful for your continued support of our

mission and ministry!

The September minutes were not available at the time of the newsletter publication.

On Sunday, October 24th at 10:15 a.m. a Special Congregational Meeting will be held with Bishop Paul Erickson and Pastor Kristin Nielsen from the Greater Milwaukee Synod. At this meeting, the Ministry Site Profile will be reviewed before the Synod makes it

available to pastoral candidates. Voting members will also vote to approve the Call Committee. If you are

interested in being part of the Call Committee, please contact the church office for an Interest Form.

Join us for the Sunday School Meet and Greet on Sunday, October 3rd at 10:15 a.m. Come meet your Sunday School teachers and other volunteers. We will meet in

Fellowship Hall. Family church starts at 10:30 a.m. in the back yard that will include a pet blessing. Alive animals and stuffed all included:)

If you are unable to attend the Meet and Greet , if you haven’t already registered your

child, please sign up here. https://forms.gle/skBqXQozNEjhVeuN8

PLEASE NOTE, with consideration of all COVID-19 precautions, more planning and consideration are being taken regarding class sizes each week. With that said we are asking families who plan to attend Sunday School this year, to PLEASE register now or at the October 3rd Meet and Greet. It is important for the Sunday school coordinators

to have accurate numbers in the event we have to split classes into smaller groups. These numbers are pivotal to planning. Moreover, We will need more volunteers to obtain smaller class sizes. If you can volunteer an hour or two for three Sundays a

month please sign up!!

Dear friends, As we slowly slide into October, we continue to raise up the monthly health observances in our country. This month we celebrate and champion for all those loved ones that were born with Down Syndrome. I want to bring awareness to this condition and educate and debunk myths and misinformation. As I advocate for our granddaughter, I am reminded to celebrate our abilities and accomplishments in life and reflect on the many blessings we each experience every day. Down syndrome occurs when an individual has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21 (occurs during conception) This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome. Here is some good information from the National Down Syndrome Society. There are three types of Down syndrome: trisomy 21 (nondisjunction) accounts for 95% of cases, transloca-

tion (inherited) accounts for about 4%, and mosaicism accounts for about 1%. Down syndrome is the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition. Approximately one in every 700

babies in the United States is born with Down syndrome – about 6,000 each year. Down syndrome occurs in people of all races and economic levels. The incidence of births of children with Down syndrome increases with the age of the mother. But due to

higher fertility rates in younger women, 80% of children with Down syndrome are born to women under 35 years of age.

People with Down syndrome have an increased risk for certain medical conditions such as congenital heart defects, respiratory and hearing problems, Alzheimer's disease, childhood leukemia and thyroid conditions. Many of these conditions are now treatable, so most people with Down syndrome lead healthy lives.

A few of the common physical traits of Down syndrome are: low muscle tone (infants might need more tum-my time to strengthen neck), small stature, an upward slant to the eyes, and a single deep crease across the center of the palm. Every person with Down syndrome is a unique individual and may possess these charac-teristics to different degrees or not at all.

Life expectancy for people with Down syndrome has increased dramatically in recent decades – from 25 in 1983 to 60 years old today.

People with Down syndrome attend school, work, participate in decisions that affect them, have meaningful relationships, vote, and contribute to society in many wonderful ways. All people with Down syndrome expe-rience cognitive delays, but the effect is usually mild to moderate and is not indicative of the many strengths and talents that everyone possesses.

Quality educational programs, a stimulating home environment, good health care and positive support from family, friends and the community enable people with Down syndrome to lead fulfilling and productive lives.

Enjoy the fall and all that comes with it! Lots of pumpkin spice and apple pie for everyone. I am praying for you.

We are moving forward with replacing the electronic messaging portion of the sign that sits at the front of our property. Currently, we have received $3,470 in designated donations, but

are still about $2,900 short.

Please prayerfully consider making a contribution. You can send it directly to the

church office or place it in the offering basket, in an envelope marked “sign donation”.

This new full color display will help us communi-cate to the community that we are an engag-

ing and welcoming place to worship.
