OCTOBER 2018 Newsletter “Authentic learning occurs best during the early years within the context of care giving, real life activities; as adults and children come together to form relationships.” Gonzalez-Mena (2002) Dear Parents, October heralded in a brief but busy and interactive month for us at IELC RMV. As the First Term of the academic year drew to a close and culminated in the first PTM (Parent Teacher Meeting) of the session, parents had the opportunity of interacting one-on-one with teachers and discussing areas of progress and concern. This was also a time to meet the specialist teachers and gain a greater understanding of the student’s experiences in these areas as well as the holistic learning environment of daily life at IELC. We have an exciting upcoming month packed with collaborative opportunities like the Children’s Day Assembly as well as the Joy of Giving Community Fair scheduled for Saturday, 17th November. We thank the Parent Advisory Committee as well as the participating parents for attending the PAC Meeting and working collaboratively towards the Joy Of Giving Community Fair. The theme for Leadership Curriculum this year is ‘Tikkun Olam’ A Jewish concept defined by acts of kindness performed to perfect or repair the world. The most modern and broadly understood notion of tikkun olam is that of "repairing the world" through human actions. Humanity's responsibility to change, improve, and fix its earthly surroundings is powerful. It implies that each person has a hand in working towards the betterment of his or her own existence as well as the lives of future generations. Keeping this in mind, IELC RMV’s Parent Action Committee is working towards supporting the children of the Sparsh Foundation Orphanage by organizing a fund-raising event titled Joy of Giving Community Fair and we look forward to your presence and participation and involvement for the same.

Dear Parents,

October heralded in a brief but busy and interactive month for us at IELC RMV. As the First Term of the academic year drew to a close and culminated in the first PTM (Parent Teacher Meeting) of the

session, parents had the opportunity of interacting one-on-one with teachers and discussing areas of progress and concern. This was also a time to meet the specialist teachers and gain a greater understanding of the student’s experiences in these areas as well as the holistic learning environment of daily life at IELC. We have an exciting upcoming month packed with collaborative opportunities like the Children’s Day Assembly as well as the Joy of Giving Community Fair scheduled for Saturday, 17th

November. We thank the Parent Advisory Committee as well as the participating parents for attending the PAC Meeting and working collaboratively towards the Joy Of Giving Community Fair. The theme for

Leadership Curriculum this year is ‘Tikkun Olam’ A Jewish concept defined by acts of kindness performed to perfect or repair the world. The most modern and broadly understood notion of tikkun olam is that of "repairing the world" through human actions. Humanity's responsibility to change, improve, and fix its earthly surroundings is powerful. It implies that each person has a hand in working towards

the betterment of his or her own existence as well as the lives of future generations. Keeping this in mind, IELC RMV’s Parent Action Committee is working towards supporting the children of the Sparsh Foundation Orphanage by organizing a fund-raising event titled Joy of Giving Community Fair and we look forward to your presence and participation and involvement for the same.

Dusshera Celebration and Reception Assembly

During the festive month of October , the Reception students had the opportunity to showcase their talent by presenting two class assemblies. Reception A presented the Dussehra Assembly on 17th October 2018 and Reception B presented the Diwali Assembly on 31st October, 2018. The Dussehra Assembly conducted by Ms. Sonam’s Class – Recetion A commenced with a ‘shloka’ (prayer)in Sanskrit to praise Lord Ganesha. The children in the audience were then enthralled by the troupe of teachers, as they set the stage with the wonderful ‘Nukkad Natak’- street play on Dussehra and Diwali. The teachers played the characters of Ramayan on cue, with hand puppets. It was a beautiful and simple way to spread the message of good over evil! This was then followed by a poem in Hindi to wish everybody a Happy Dussehra and the children swayed into everyone’s hearts as they danced to the melody of Indian folk!

Multicultural Day Celebration

Our special event for the month, Multicultural Day was celebrated on 31st October and generated much discussion and

excitement. The students had an opportunity to engage in Diya making and Halloween

crafts and related stories read to the children through the preceding week. Our parents and

grandparents volunteered their time to come set up the ‘ Dassara Dolls Gombe Corner’

and spoke about their respective traditions helping them to compare and contrast their customs with the local ones.

The special assembly conducted by Ms.

Anusha’s Class- Reception B section helped students understand the significance of

Diwali and Halloween followed by a parade where the children enthusiastically displayed their costumes. The event that excited and

enthused the children most was the much awaited ‘Trick or Treat’ walk to each other’s

classrooms.

Following the assembly, we had a talk on fire safety and self-management around crackers.

Prep 2 children are exploring into their own culture and understanding that people are 'SAME but DIFFERENT'. They are also excited to inquire about different people, countries, cultures, food and languages. They have learnt that the globe is a round map and the map is a flat globe. Children made passports of their own and have drawn the flags of the countries that they've learnt about. They also gained knowledge about the seven continents. Children will continue to understand that it does not matter who they are (boy/girl) or what their personal interests or choices are and that it is okay to be 'me' and 'you'.”

PREP 1

Prep students’ second Unit of Inquiry focused on the central idea, ‘We can express

our ideas and feelings through Play.’ The children enjoyed learning about the

components of play and the types of play. The field trip to Girias Explorium was the

NURSERY

In October, the little ones were introduced to the Foundational theme for this month ‘Farm Animals’,

and the theme has a warm response from the children with each of them displaying care and interest towards farm animals. The months’ activity started by making farm animal using their hand imprints and finger painting for the duck and sheep, creating crafts of the cow, dog and horse. The children were asked to identify the names of the farm animals, the sounds they make and the food

they eat. We further explored farm animals in the mystery bag, with play dough and stamping art activities.
