Thank you!

Traffic Control

Traffic control in school area is a highly sensi-tive subject. First and foremost, remember that our primary concern is the safety of your children. We know that your time is a precious commodity, but if the choice is between a few minutes saved and a life lost, the perspective becomes clear.

We should set a good example by always following the traffic safety rules. Children learn by example. A driver is always responsible for safety, even if (when) pedes-trians act foolishly. Children are the second-most likely group to be injured in automobile/pedestrian accidents.

Please remember:

Children can be picked up and dropped off only in designated areas. (Front of school: in the morning- Preschool only. In the afternoon-Kindergarten only.)

Children should exit/enter on the curbside of the vehicle and only in designated zones. Children are not allowed to cross the street/parking lot to reach the vehicle.

Our drop off/pick-up lane is one way. Please pass carefully when pulling out.

Never leave a vehicle unattended when picking up or dropping off children. Violations present a danger and cause congestion.

Children should obey the directions given to them by teachers on duty. This includes crossing in designat-ed areas only when directed, not running or riding bicycles at crossing or in the drop off/pick-up area and being alert for traffic.

Consider carpooling to reduce the number of vehi-cles near the school.

Never get out of the vehicle to fix your child’s back-pack, tie their shoelaces, to give them a last kiss goodbye, etc. please make sure you take care of all these details before you leave the house to help with the traffic flow.

Gilbert Public Schools is committed to a learning environment free of discrimination. Towards that goal, GPS Governing Board has

adopted new policies that provide guidance to address concerns.

Healthy & Hydrated

The calendar may say we’re getting close to Fall, but the temperatures are still squarely stuck in summer. The children are still sweating buckets when they run around at recess and I’m noticing many chil-dren coming to school without wa-ter bottles. Proper hydration is im-portant all of the time, but especial-ly in our warmer climate.

When we are born, water makes up about 75% of our body weight. For older kids and adults it’s about 60%. Water helps to maintain our body working properly in various ways, including carrying nutrients to cells, removing waste products from the body, and regulating our body tem-perature. We continuously lose

water through using the restroom, breathing, and sweating. In order to help our children stay hydrated and healthy, keep these following thoughts in mind:

1. It is recommended that children aged 4-13 years drink 6-8 glasses of fluid a day. 2. It is best to hydrate with plain water and natural, un-sweetened drinks. This can in-clude water, milk, and 100% fruit or vegetable juice. 3. When exposed to warm weather or playing sports, the amount of fluids should be in-creased. 4. To help encourage kids to
