Starting in October there will be some new faces at Valleyview Centennial School. Ms. Lindsay Spicer has been hired as a classroom teacher while Mrs. Monita is on maternity leave; Ms Lindsay Smith is to be a student teacher in Mr. Beaney’s Gr 5/6 classroom; and, Ms Tia Nienhuysen will be student teaching in Mrs. Donnelley’s Gr 3/4 class. Both student teachers will arrive immediately after Thanksgiving and remain for six weeks. Because the weather can be unpredictable in October, please help your child choose appropriate clothing for outdoor activities during our recess breaks. They should also remember that they need separate pairs of shoes for indoors and outdoors. Construction at Valleyview Centennial is somewhat behind schedule. WWWW elcome to Ancient Egypt! The gradeQ3/4 students are busy learning about life in Ancient Egypt, and how their inventions and tech-nology influence us still today. We are team planning and teaching this year, so both classes are busy learning. It makes for a full classroom when we team up, but the sense of community is so much greater this way. Ask your child about the ancient Egyptians – especially why the Nile was so important to them. ~ Mrs. Cindy Swallow

TTTT he Childhood Dreams Car show was a huge success! Darren and I worked alongside Valleyview Parent Council to help raise money for two great children’s causes. We raised over $2,800 for parent council as well as over $1,800 for the pediatrics unit at The Brandon Regional Health Center. A big thank you goes out to everyone who volunteered and attended this event. We were really pleased with the turn out and are in talks of running this event again next year!

On the trick-or-treat trail

A parent or responsible adult should take young children trick or treating.

If your child is going alone, make sure you know where he/she is going and what time he/ she will be home.

Trick-or-Treaters should:

• Stay in a group.

• Carry a cell phone for emergencies.

• Only go to homes with a light on.

• Stay on well-lit streets and use the sidewalks.

• If there are no sidewalks, walk at the side of the road, facing traffic.

• Cross the street at intersections

• Never cut across yards or use alleys.

• Never go in a stranger's home or car for a treat.

Trick or treaters should be extra careful on the streets. Drivers may have trouble seeing them. Just because one car stops, doesn't mean others will.

Healthy Halloween

Check the treats before allowing your child to eat any. Throw away any spoiled, unwrapped or sus-picious items.
