Transcript of October 2012 Newsletter

Sophia Crawford’s lovely house and beautiful view provided a perfect venue

for our fall opening meeting. After the summer hiatus, it was a treat to have

the chance to catch up with so many women again. If you weren’t there, just

know that we missed you.

With summer behind us, the NWC is swinging into full gear. As usual, Karen

Ward worked her magic in providing the library with a beautiful window

display for the Nearly New Sale. I hope that all of you have collected your

clothing for consignment and volunteered to work at least one shift. Did you

know that we have around 250 volunteers helping to make the sale a

success? I hope that you are one of them.

Planning is well underway for the Spring Gala. One of the wonderful things

about the Women’s Club is the “can and will do” attitude of so many of our

members. Last week we had filled all the committee chair spots including

some new members. But we didn’t have an overall chair. Recognizing the

need, Sue Pitiger stepped up to the plate and said “Okay, I will do it!.” If you

see Sue, say thank you. Cheryl Herrmann quickly agreed to take Sue’s place

as the chair of the Norwich Citizen of the Year committee, PJ Stanwood

willingly said “yes” to overseeing the catering, food and beverages, and

Ledyard Bank has once again agreed to co-sponsor the event with us. We

still have need for more volunteers; so just let us know that you want to help.

March 15 will be upon us before we know it.

We have lots of other events in store for you. Morning coffees, a holiday

meeting, the book and author lunch among other things. Just check our

website to see what is happening and join us whenever you can.

We are offering coffee and

conversation with friends old and

new at the Norwich Inn – we do

hope you will join us on Monday,

October 15th, from 10 to 11am.

This is open to anyone whether or

not a member of the Women’s

Club, so do bring an old friend or

a new neighbor. However, please

RSVP to [email protected] to help us best plan.

We thank the Inn for their warm

welcome.

The volunteer response to e-mail recruitment has been strong; we are very pleased that volunteers are responding

sooner rather than later, and responding even if they are not available this sale. Our energetic phonathon volunteers

will be calling those who not yet responded to the volunteer e-mail or already called Debbie Carter (649-1216).

Clean shopping bags, paper and otherwise, are always in need. The fall sale typically goes through many large bags.

Please bring your bags when you come to Tracy Hall to consign and/or volunteer. Bags go in the safe area in the

conference room.

.

The Fall Sale 2012 may well be the final sale with the pre-consignment component as no one has yet stepped up to the

plate to take the baton from Priscilla Vincent who has spearheaded/chaired pre-consignment for many years. Priscilla

is committed to train and support the new pre-consignment chair for the Spring 2013 sale and beyond if needed.

As a distributor of packets this sale (and future sales), I’ve enjoyed meeting and getting to know pre-consignors.

Everyone I talk to is so grateful for the NNS and the opportunity to pre-consign in the comfort of their home. Dropping

this component of the sale will put additional stress on consignment days as well as cut into the financial outcome for

both consignors and the NWC Scholarship Fund.

Pre-consignment is a 4-week window; pre and post preparation takes 2 to 3 days total. The chair’s major calendar

commitment is just prior to the 4-week window and just after the half-price sale; since there are multiple distributors, a

message on your answering machine during the 4-week window allows flexibility during the packet pick-up month.

Please review the job description in this month’s newsletter and feel free to call Priscilla (649-1807) or me (649-1558)

if you have any questions, need clarification or have any suggestions.

A warm welcome to new members Kylee Eliza Ivany and Kathy Kentner. If you know anyone who is

interested in becoming a member, I am always happy to answer any questions: 802-649-2662.

And there’s more information on our website – www.norwichwomensclub.org.

Most of you have already paid your dues for this year (June 1st, 2012 - May 31st, 2013). The dues

cover the Club’s fixed costs such as rental on its post office box and website. Remember also that

your dues entitle you to discounts on the Book and Author lunches and the Museum trips! If you

have not, we would be most grateful if you would pay promptly. If you’re not sure if you’ve yet paid,

I’d be happy to let you know - [email protected].
