Road Safety……

Yun to mai din bhar site pe safety ki dugdugi bajata hu,But jab khud pe aati hai baat to na jaane kyun hur rule bhul jaata hu.Signal todkar mai khud ko kaafi cool sa paata hu,Din me jaane kitni baar death ko invitation de aata hu.Helmet na khareed kar paise bachaata hu mai,Aate jaate khubsurat chahro ko niharne ka chance bhi to paata hu maiMaano ya na maano hai ye social work ka kaam ,hur maheene jaane kitne hawaldaaro ko chaay-paani karaata hu mai.“Driving rash is my passion n speed is my obsession” kahkar khub harshaata hu mai,Recent newspapers me chhapa “Azhhurudeen” ka udaas chehra kaise bhul jaata hu mai“Streets are filled with idiots” n “safety is a habit” jaise slogans se khud ko kaafi prabhavit paata hu mai,But jab khud pe aati hai baat to jaane ku hur rule bhul jaata hu mai...... Din me jaane kitni baar death ko invitation de aata hu mai…..

From: Bharat SenaniSr.EngineerPNG

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by anidea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the LongIsland. However bridge building experts throughout the world thoughtthat this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. Itjust could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been donebefore!

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that itcould be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. Aftermuch discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his sonWashington, an upcoming engineer, that the bridge could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developedconcepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles couldbe overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headinessof a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began tobuild their dream bridge.

The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway atragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washingtonwas injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, whichresulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move!

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the projectshould be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knewhow the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington wasnever discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridgeand his mind was still as sharp as ever.

He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. It seemed that there was amessage for him not to give up.

Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and hedecided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developeda code of communication with his wife.

He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating to her that hewanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same methodof tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish butthe project was under way again.

For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger onhis wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today thespectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to thetriumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his determination not to bedefeated by circumstances.

Perhaps this is one of the best examples of a never-say-die attitude andachievement of an impossible goal.

REFLECTIONS!

Current Festival

During the Festival, people perform rigorous Pooja. And one

of the reason of performing today’s Garba is a culture

derived from this Pooja. People were used to perform Garba

– a traditional way of worshiping – during night. But, the

culture has changed and the ’Garba’ has moved from local

colony (called ‘Sheri’) to ‘Garba Dance’ in Clubs and Party

Plots with Fashion and Fancy dress. The youth is performing

Garba from late night to early morning next day. The

Cultural Department of Gujarat Government is also

organizing ‘Vibrant Navaratri Mahotsava’ at large form.

Ae Haaaloooo...Dandiya Ramava....The Hindu festival of Navratri - ‘Nav’ means Nine and ‘Ratri’means Nights – a festival running nine nights, is celebratedtwice a year. The first Navratri of the year is known as ChaitraNavratra falling in March-April – not much for Garba players andthe second Navratri is held in October-November, whichcoincides Durga Puja, known as Sharad Navaratra. The nightsof Navratri are devoted to the reverence of Goddess Durga, worshipped in different forms - ‘Shailputri’, 'Brahmacharini',Chandraghanta, ‘Kushmanda’, ‘Skand Mata’, ‘Katyayani’,'Kalratri', 'Maha Gauri' and Siddhidatri for nine days. In somecommunities, people undergo rigorous fasts during this seasonthat lasts for the nine days of Navratri.

Current Festival

In tradition, people also worship Mother Laxmi - the goddess of wealth. Business men also perform Pooja in the offices and start the new account as per Hindu calendar. The festival of Diwali is truly a “Festival of Lights”, as it not only involves lighting of Lamps but, it brings the light of happiness, togetherness, spiritual enlightment and prosperity for everyone. With the sounds of crackers killing all bad-omens, the lighted lamps-lighting the lives of people, the prayers and pujas creating an atmosphere full of goodness and purity, the festival of Diwali indeed fills the atmosphere with an aura of goodness and a heaven like atmosphere. Wish you all a Happy Deepawali....
