Word From The Pastor
I took my first flying lesson when I was 16 years old. I was hooked from day one! To this day the scariest flying experience I ever had was the day I first flew solo. The sky was blue and a calm wind out of the south blew straight down the runway. These were perfect conditions for my first solo flight. The instructor had accompanied me on several landings and then said, "you're ready to solo." I was so excited as I dropped him off near the hanger and began to taxi away by myself for the first time. When I got to the end of the runway and started going through my checklist the excitement grew even stronger. I was so ready! I made the radio call and on to the active runway I went. As I pushed the throttle all the way down and started to roll down the runway I was smiling so BIG and almost overcome totally with joy. However, something very strange happened as I left the ground. All of a sudden it dawned on me, I was all alone! My excitement and joy quickly turned to a very nervous anticipation. What if something went wrong? What if I could not land? What if I mess up? There was no longer the accountability, security, and safety of having someone else in the plane to ensure I would survive. While I was confident in my ability to fly, it was a nerve-wracking experience to be alone. It is acceptable to fly solo as a pilot, however, flying solo spiritually will always lead to certain disas-ter. I am always astonished and amazed when I take a close look at the lives of the Biblical heroes we all admire. One thing they all have in common is that they did not fly solo. Take Paul for example: few would argue that he was one of the greatest evangelist, missionaries, and church planters the world has ever known. He traveled over 10,000 miles, visited over 50 cities, planted countless churches, debated some of the smartest people in the world, and won so many to Christ. How much of this did he do by himself? None of it! When he met Christ on the road to Damascus he was blinded and from his first moments as a believer had the help of others who led him by the hand into the city. Later Barnabas, Luke, Timothy, and many others would help him in various ways to accom-plish the ministry God had laid out for his life. Even in the last days of his life as he awaited death in a Roman jail he wrote in 2 Timothy 4:11 NIV Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. Paul was constantly surrounded by others because he knew it was foolish to try and fly solo spiritually. Take time today to make a list of those you are fly-ing with. Send them a card, or email thanking them for their partnership in ministry. If you are flying alone, form or join a team soon! If Paul, Peter, Moses, and Jesus needed others in the cockpit surely you and I do as well. 1 Corinthians 12:27 says “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” There is no part of your physical body that is not dependent on other parts of your body. The same is true for each of us spiritually as well. We are united as one body of Christ and we are all dependent on others. Spiritual growth, and success are impossible if we choose to fly solo.
There has definitely been some progress on the covered facility this past month! I hope you all are taking time to come out and check it out. The East side is done and the West side is about 1/4 done. Thank you for your donations and for continuing to support this vision for Cowboy Fellow-ship! CAMO Holds Handgun Event
Cowboy Fellowship’s CAMO (Christian Alliance of Men Outdoors) ministry held a handgun competition at the Atascosa Gun Club on Saturday, Sept. 10th. 35 men partici-pated in 2 categories, Law Enforcement and Civilian, and 2 events. Spectators watched as the men competed in an accuracy competition and a timed event. The accuracy compe-tition consisted of 6 shots from 15 yards and the timed event was 15 still targets from 15 yards with 18 shots allowed. Legend Tack & Silver buckles were given to the winner from each category. The winner for the Law Enforcement was Pierce Ruple and for the Civilians Chuck Hannah took the prize. In the timed event several people hit 10 to 13 of the targets but Chuck hit all 15 with ammo left over! The men also enjoyed some great food provided by Larry Asbury and everyone reported they had a good time. CAMO would like to thank the Atascosa Gun Club for partnering with us to hold this event. CAMO is open to all men in the community. If you are interested in participating in future events such as fishing, golf, and archery tournaments, please contact Scotty Smith at [email protected]. Thanks to everyone who came out for this event and we look forward to seeing you at the next one!

Ministry Updates
By Lay Pastor Michael Dickmann
This is long overdue. As a Lay Pastor over several ministries, I want to
write a little about them. Over the next several months I plan to highlight
each of these ministries in detail.
With over twenty-five ministries at Cowboy Fellowship, I have direct re-
sponsibility to seven of these ministries. These ministries and their lead-
ers are as follows: Clean Up – Rick Thayer, Connection Partners - Vacant,
Helping Hands – Liz Crabb, Kitchen – GiGi Manning, Matthew 25:35 –
Odis White, Parking – Bill Mangum and Share The Harvest – Ty Keeling.
God has blessed us with great leaders for each of these ministries and
they do a great job leading their teams. But, each ministry is a team and
that team is made up of volunteers of the congregation. In other words
YOU!
The leaders are only as strong as the volunteers that help out, and each
ministry team could use more help. Not just these seven teams but all the
ministry teams of the church. The more members on a team, the easier the
work is for everyone. With more members on a team each person may
only need to work once or twice a month. With as many people as we
have that attend each Sunday, I am surprised at the few that actually vol-
unteer. I know it is not possible for some and I believe for most it is be-
cause you do not really know what the ministries do. Please take time to
speak with the leaders of the ministry teams to find out what they actu-
ally do.
Search you hearts and pray about it, if the Lord so leads you, please con-
sider volunteering your time to one of the ministries of the church. On
the next page there is a listing of the various ministries at Cowboy Fellow-
ship. All could use more help and none of them are strenuous or time
consuming. You are working for the Lord and His house. Pray about it.
