Dear Church Family,

Again, let's take the time to do a spiritual checkup which finds its biblical basis in the beloved book of 1 John. Woodrow Kroll, in his excellent book, Seven Secrets to Spiritual Success, presents what he calls "The 1 John Twenty."

In last month's column, we considered the first ten points of the list of twenty. Now we will look at the second ten points. Kroll asserts that, according to the epistle of 1 John, you know you're saved if:

11. You demonstrate your love in word and deed.

(3:18-19)

12. You have the witness of your conscience.

(3:21-22)

13. You have the indwelling presence of the Spirit.

(3:24; 4:13)

14. You have the ability to distinguish truth

from error. (4:6)

15. You confess that Jesus is God the Son. (4:15)

16. You believe that Jesus is the Christ.

(2:22-23; 5:1)

17. You exhibit "overcoming faith." (5:4-5)

18. You believe the promise of God. (5:9-10, 12)

19. You trust the purpose of God's Word. (5:13)

20. You have an understanding from the Son

of God. (5:20)

This passage and these points provide for us quite a bit of food for thought - or rather, Scripture for prayer. Please take the time to read this portion of God's Word and meditate upon these points. Reflect upon the evidences of saving faith in your own life.

The Word of God does not teach us to doubt our salvation, but it warns us to affirm our salvation. That affirmation must be based on biblical evidences, not feelings. Our great salvation is based in the facts of the gospel and our faith in their truth. Let us celebrate the salvation that is ours in Christ Jesus!

In Christ,

Pastor Calvin

Hello church family! Just a couple of reminders of

upcoming children's events in the fall. First, on October

26 the children's group will be going to see Veggie Tales

Live in Franklin. Tickets have been ordered but there are

seats still available if your child would like to come. I am

certain it will be a good time for all.

Secondly, our Fall Festival is scheduled for October 31.

We will be having trunk or treat, hayrides, food and lots

of fun activities. More details to follow! I hope you will

all participate in this church and community event!

Lastly, I am happy to announce the addition of a third

class for our children's bible study on wednesday

evenings. Mrs. Emily Waldroup will be teaching our

3-kindergarten class. I praise The Lord for sending Emily

to fill this need in our children's ministry. I thank Emily

for being so willing to give of her talent and time!

Happy Fall, everyone!

In His Love,

Suzanne

Operation Help/Hope delivered 316 food bags to AES,

AMS and families in need. We are so blessed to have

Thomas and Gladys Hancock and Christie Dartz from

Second Baptist Church helping pack and deliver. AES

asked for wholesome snacks, with New Beginnings

Baptist Church’s help we were able to provide granola

chips and 12 boxes of Cheez IT crackers. One student at

AMS made the comment: Please tell the people that give

us these bags Thank You so much. AMS asked for

Kleenex and we met that need. Thanks to David and

Wanda Beck for the pears. Chuck Davis Second Baptist

and Valleytown Baptist continue to supply food weekly.

We provided clothes and a $50 gas card for a child with

two deaths in the family. The counselors at AES, AMS

and Marble are beginning work for our Operation

Christmas Helper families. Our three counselors tell us

over and over again THANK YOU for all you do!

“How good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters

work together in unity.” Psalm 133: 1 Nancy

As we begin to witness the magnificent plethora of fall colors splashing upon the deciduous trees all across the resplendent mountains, let us remember it is not by our design and that we are indeed privileged to experience the remarkable changes that only through God’s creation, occur from season to season in such beautiful fashion! Just as the cycle of seasons flow according to God’s great plan, so should the paths upon which we take, not of our own choosing, but rather from doors of opportunity opened only by Him. For His ways are perfect and will not lead us astray. Let’s keep our eyes and ears open to the doors of opportunity that summon us to enter and follow God’s will for our lives. On October 20-23, we will have opportunities to musically participate in our Fall Revival. Solos, duets and trios will be part of our three day program and I would like for much prayer and consideration to be given. The Sanctuary Choir will also begin learning a mini Christmas Cantata. Our M&M’s have begun learning their Christmas carols and songs. Please uplift one another in prayer and encouragement, always giving thanks to our Heavenly Father for his many blessings. Many thanks and blessings, Jennifer Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3

GREETINGS TO ALL YOUNG AT HEARTS, A special thanks to Robert and Nancy Taylor for taking our senior adults to the Baptist Children’s Home (Broyhill Home) in Clyde. They told us what a special blessing it was to be a part of their program: the gospel music, testimonies and speaker, Dr. Blackwell, President. Thanks Robert for driving the bus. May God bless you. Thursday, September 26, 2013, we went to Amicalola State Park Lodge. It was a little cloudy and rainy, but the sun came out, and God blessed our day. We all enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch, and thoroughly enjoy God’s beautiful country from the Lodge. God really blessed our time together with a lot of fun and fellowship. Thank you Jim for driving. Up-coming events: Please sign-up for the following: Tuesday, October 22, 2013, we will be going to Ellijay, GA to the Senior Adult Celebration. This will be a very fun day with many senior adults from all over the southeast praising the Lord in concert and message with Alison and Scott Everill. Lunch will be serve in their Fellowship Hall. The bus will at 8:30 AM. Thursday, October 24, 2013, we will have our regular luncheon in the Fellowship Hall at 12 Noon. Please come and bring a friend, and your delicious food. Gene and Ronney Craig will be host/hostess. We’re not sure about the program, but it will be a fun afternoon. This will be our last luncheon in the Fellowship Hall until January 2014. We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Pat and Bill Reed in the loss of Pat’s brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: “Be still and know that He is God. There is no greater joy than to know that God loves us.” Special Prayer Requests: Please continue to pray for Bro. Calvin and family, the music ministry, the children’s ministry, the deacons, teachers, and those in leadership positions. Please pray for our Youth and their leaders, and for the Bus Ministry. Please pray for our Nation and the leaders. Please continue to pray for several on our pray list who have been very ill lately. Also, pray for those in the nursing homes and our homebound. Thank you for continuing to pray for us. Remem-ber, as you are praying for you, we will be praying for you. In Christ’s love, Harlace & Pat ----------------------------------------------------
