October 15, 2017 In this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus tells another parable: this time about a wedding feast and the response of those who were invited. They ignore the invitation, embarrassing the King. He immediately sends out his servants to bring in anyone, just to save his reputation. They are also mistreated and he sends them out once more to bring in those who would not have been invited: sinners! This parable is a direct insult to the religious leaders, who, like their forefathers, rejected the message of the prophets to repent and return to true worship of God. They saw themselves as not needing to repent, or change their ways, so the Lord sent Jesus to call those who were not usually invited, sinners! How often do we see ourselves as “just fine”, not really needing God’s forgiveness? After all, we go to Mass regularly, we pray and do “all the right things.” Saint Paul warns his people not to compare their righteousness to other people, but to see themselves in the light of God’s holiness. Every week I try to make myself available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, but hardly anyone comes to the Confessional. We all are in need of the grace of this wonderful sacrament. We are all sinners in need of God’s grace and forgiveness. None of us is fine, not needing to confess our sins. Every believer from the Holy Father, the Bishop, and every priest need this grace received in the holy Sacrament of Reconciliation. Will we see you there next week? ANNUNCIATION PARISH ACTIVITIES

VOCATION VOICE: The Lord is the shepherd who

calls. Pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Continue to pray for Kendall Ketterlin, son of Kay Connell, who is beginning another

scholastic year in the seminary. We are so blessed to have a future priest from our parish!

Soon we will offer the opportunity for special home prayer. There will be a vocation crucifix to keep in your home for a couple of weeks to be a reminder to pray for vocations. If you would like to take advantage of this blessing, please e-mail Sister Mary Ruth ([email protected]) with your name and which week-end Mass you attend.

Bulletin Announcement in Lieu of a Special Collection Since our special collection for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, we have seen Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit Florida, Puerto Rico, and other islands in the Caribbean. Another devastating earthquake occurred in Mexico. In all, hundreds are dead and thousands have lost their homes. If you would like to help, you can donate to Catholic Charities (catholiccharities.org), which is helping victims in the U.S., or Catholic Relief Services (www.crs.org), which is working with those Mexico and the Caribbean. You can also write a check to the parish for this purpose and we will send it on. Put in the memo that it is for Hurricane Relief. Thank you and please keep in your prayers all of those suffering from these disasters. Reminder: If you are going to the hospital for surgery or a procedure, know you are encouraged to ask Father for a blessing beforehand. Also, please contact the parish office or Sister Mary Ruth so we can be a support to you. Let us know if you want to be on the bulletin prayer list.

The Moniteau Christian Ministry Center food pantry is in serious need of plastic grocery bags. If you bring them to church and put in the basement "well" area,

they will be delivered to the food pantry. Thank you for your help!

CATHOLIC STEWARDSHIP APPEAL 2018 Bishop Gaydos reminds us in his annual CSA appeal video that we share the same human nature, and as baptized members of the Body of Christ, we literally are invited to share as one family in faith. This is the middle week of this year’s CSA campaign. If you’ve already responded to Bishop’s appeal letter, we thank you. If not, please take time this week to make a gift to support the many services noted in the CSA brochure which the diocese provides in support of our parishes and schools. May God bless you for your pledge.

Ordinarily, in October we attach information about stewardship opportunities, ways to serve the parish and community, and ask for volunteers. Almost always the same people respond that we already have on our list. Thank you to those many very generous parishioners. This month those papers will be available in the church entrance for anyone not on the list to respond by filling out and returning them to the box provided in the church entrance. Thank you! It is time to elect members to the parish council. If you would like to serve your parish in this capacity, please contact Evelyn Jobe or S. Mary Ruth to be put on the ballot. Election will be in December. The major role is to help support the faith growth of Annunciation Parish. This means to be a practicing Catholic and to help the pastor in his role of leading all of us. Pray about this and see if the Lord may be asking you to serve your parishioners in this capacity. Those currently on the council are: Tawna Dutcher, Julie Haslag, Ruthie Adams, DiAnne Naros, and Eric Schroeter. Those whose term is up are: Emilio Juarez, Becky Bloch, and Evelyn Jobe. Evelyn can be re-elected. If you have questions, feel free to contact any of us.
