At Lodi LanesFLUSHING, NY - Archie Nabas, a 44 year old left-
hander from Queens
Village, had never made an
Long Island Generations
Bowling Tour finals until
Sunday at JIB Lanes. His
first game in the finals was
perfect , a 300 which gavehim the confidence to
claim the $1,000 top prize
and his first LIGBT title.
Archie won the title by
throwing 6 strikes in a row and finishing wi th
a 270 handicap game.
The final shootout was very competitive and
well bowled by all 5 finalists. There were
only 2 open frames the entire match and one
of them was by the champion. Sam Cooke
took the early lead with a triple but could not
strike late to keep his lead. Archie needed a
strike in the final frame to win
and he put ten in the pit. Sam fin-
ished second with a 253 to earn
$500.
Third place went to Jun Park,
Flushing, NY with a 242 worth
$300. There was a tie for 4th and
5th with a 229 by Curtis
Hetmeyer, Valley Stream, NYand Eric Rogan, Flushing, NY
each earning $265.
The Jib Lanes tournament drew
a good crowd of 88 entries,
advanced 16 bowlers to the finals (plus 2
extra cashers), and paid out $3,600. This was
a special “House Shot” tournament which
resulted in good scoring but not as high as
expected. The cut was 731 in the 1pm squad
and 734 in the 3pm squad. High series of the
tournament, 820, was shot by second place
finisher Sam Cooke in the 1pm squad.

HORNELL, N.Y. – Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J. and Patrick
Allen of Mt. Kisco, N.Y. scored victories in the PBA East
Region’s doubleheader weekend at Maple City Bowl inHornell, N.Y.
Kulick won two of her four matches and finished with a
12-game total of 2,579 pins to record a 14-pin victory over
Brittni Hamilton of Webster, N.Y., in the PWBA Maple
City Dodge East Open on Saturday. Allen won seven of
his 12 matches and finished with a 20-game
total of 4,667 pins to edge Ryan Ciminelli
of Cheektowaga, N.Y. by 20 pins in the
PBA Maple City Dodge East Open present-ed by 900 Global on Sunday.
Kulick was the qualifying leader in the
women’s regional, but quickly fell out of
the lead when she struggled to a 149 in the
opening game of the finals. Hamilton, who
won her first three matches, held the lead
until the final position round match when
she lost to Kulick, 177-159. Kulick won
$1,500 while Hamilton earned $1,000 as
the runner-up.
Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, N.Y.,
finished fifth, but won the East Region’s
season-long PBA Challenge Series points
race. As a result, she earns a spot in the
PWBA-PBA Women’s Regional Challenge that will be
contested during the GEICO PBA World Series of
Bowling VII at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., Dec. 18, as well as a paid entry into the World Series
itself.
Allen started the PBA Open finals 155 pins behind
Ciminelli after qualifying. Ciminelli arrived at the center
on Sunday suffering from a stomach virus and struggled in
the early matches. After dropping to third going into the
final position round match, Ciminelli rallied with a 286 to
have a shot at the win, but Allen responded with a 258 final
game to hold onto a 20-pin margin of victory. Allen won$2,400 for his 28th career regional title. Ciminelli earned
$1,200 as the runner-up.
Next on the schedule is the PBA Bowlers Discount Pro
Shop East Open, which is scheduled for October 16-17 at

PBA SPARE SHOTSCHRIS BARNES TO UNDERGO BACK SURGERY,
WITHDRAWS FROM PBA FALL CLASSIC
Eighteen-time PBA Tour champion Chris Barnes, 45, of Double Oak,
Texas, has withdrawn from the South Point PBA Fall Classic and will
undergo back surgery in Dallas to repair a herniated disc.
“Nothing specific happened,” Barnes said, noting an extensive sched-
ule of competition in Korea, PBA Southwest Regional competition and
with Team USA in recent weeks aggravated the condition.
“The last time I got off the plane, it hurt all the way down to my
shoes,” Barnes said. “The pain part is manageable, but I just don’t have
any strength in my right leg, so it’s time to get it fixed.”
Barnes said the “discectomy” involves trimming a portion of the disk that’s leaning on the nerve to alleviate the pain.
“It’s the same thing (Dallas Cowboys quarterback) Tony Romo had
done and it’ll be done by the same doctor, Barnes noted. “Recovery time
is a guess at this point, but I’d think the (GEICO PBA) World Series (of
Bowling VII) is very much a long shot at this point.”
Barnes was scheduled to bowl in the PBA Fall Classic PBA Team
Challenge with the 4 POY & A Nice Run team along with fellow
past/current PBA Players of the Year Jason Belmonte, Tommy Jones and
Wes Malott and frequent POY contender Bill O’Neill. Barnes also was
paired with Jones for the Mark Roth-Marshall Holman PBA Doubles
Championship. His replacement for both events has not yet been
announced.
CHRIS PAUL FAMILY FOUNDATION CELEBRITY INVITATIONAL

PBA Celebrity Invitational will be held on Thursday, Jan. 7, at a site to

Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. ET.

To our customers at the Parkway Lanes, 200 Route 46, Elmwood Park, N.J.:
There continues to be a number of rumors circling around the industry about our business. We had our Financial Consultant address the league officers recently and he attempted to
provide information first to the league members and second to our loyal customers. At thismeeting he disclosed confidential information with the attempt of gaining trust in thestatement that all of our leagues and parties are secure in the thought of using our facilityas their Bowling Center. We have been working hard over the past 8 years to provide ourcustomers the best and most comfortable bowling alley in Bergen County.
We mentioned in our meeting that we have been approached by several entities interestedin purchasing our business. We have been approached by more than a dozen viable entitieswith the interest of purchasing Parkway Lanes in the past three years, however in each casewe have chosen to hold on to it ourselves, in spite of economic challenges.
In all the possible scenarios, we will be f inancially secure for this season and manyseasons to come, as promised.
For those of you who have businesses or business experiences, you will know that aChapter 11 filing allows a business to operate but it also exposes the business to totaltransparency which means anyone who has an interest in buying our business must bedisclosed to the public. It does not mean, in fact a sale or transfer of ownership will takeplace.
The partners of Parkway Lanes have invested more than a million dollars of their hardearned money to maintain and keep their business responsible.
We are using this advertisement for one purpose and one purpose only. We wanteveryone to feel comfortable about having a bowling house that they can trust, and so weare asking you publicly to accept our commitment to remain in business for many years tocome.
We take this opportunity to thank all of our patrons, our league members, and ourcustomers who have enjoyed using our facility as their Birthday party house and their
corporate site for group gatherings.
Thank you for your continued support
