OUR LADY OF MERCY PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Mercy Parish is a Catholic community that worships God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, celebrating Mass, proclaiming the Gospel Message and uniting in prayer. We strive to welcome all and to educate ourselves and others in the Good News of Jesus Christ. We support one another in times of joy and sadness and attempt to serve each other by reaching out to those in need in our community and beyond. We are imperfect people on a journey. Our goal is that the life of each person leads to the Lord.

LET US PRAY In your love and kindness please pray for the sick of our parish, and for the prayer requests listed in the book of intentions in the Vestibule. Please also remember the deceased of our parish and their families, especially: Sheila McGraw, Joseph Mead, Ernest Auer, Mary McManus, Sabrina Ferrara, William M. Kay, and John Reynolds. Please join with us in praying one OUR FATHER per day for all those who have no one to pray for them. THE SANCTUARY LAMPS IN CHURCH burn this week in memory of: Jose L. Vasquez, and for Special Intentions. THE SANCTUARY LAMP IN THE CHAPEL burns this week in memory of Msgr. Carl D. Hinrichsen.

If you would like more information about reserving a Sanctuary Lamp in memory of a loved one or for a Special Intention, please call the rectory office at 201-391-5315.

GOD’S PLAN FOR GIVING – Tithing

October 6 collection: $15,837 Same time last year: $15,623

Tithing is God’s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10% of gross income to God. We ask half of this, or 5%, for your Parish church. The other 5% goes to your favorite charities.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

“I tell you that he will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8 Where would Jesus find faith in today’s world? Faith is present wherever there are acts of good stewards.

2019 Sharing God’s Blessings Annual Appeal. Our parish goal this year is $100,843. Please be as generous as possible. Thank you for any help you can provide. If you choose to donate online, please visit www.rcan.org/sharing Pledged to date: $51,466.

MSGR. TURRO HOMILY

Think of it for a moment—what is the greatest, most precious gift you have ever received? It has to be the Eucharist—Jesus. How would you top that? And who was it that has given you it? It is Mary. For this gift, we must be eternally grateful to her. Not poetry—not exaggeration—but hard fact. Click here to see more homilies by Msgr. Turro

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

First, a heartfelt “thank you” to our Knights of Colum-bus, led by Grand Knight, Frank Lentino, for a terrific “Oktoberfest” celebration last Saturday. It was a good crowd and a wonderful time for good food, good music, good conversation and community! Thank you again for all you do!

Second, “last call” for expressing interest in participating in the process to conceptualize and help establish the structure and function of our OLM Pastoral Council, and to receive names of persons of all ages and back-grounds whom you would like to suggest as possible members of the Council (including yourself). This is not yet a request to serve, but simply to articulate interest in what this Council should look like and how it should function. Please contact us by mail, phone or best, by email: ([email protected]) by Wednesday. At that time information about an organizational meeting and facilitated workshop will be provided.

Third, thanks to the generosity of so many parishioners, we hope to move forward this week with replacing the original lighting in the Sacred Heart Chapel (which has become both dangerous and obsolete). Depending on the work, on some days this week, Daily Masses may be in the Church instead of the Chapel.

Finally, October is the month of the Rosary! The Ro-sary sometimes is compared to the “Liturgy of the Hours,” prayers said by priests and consecrated per-sons at specific hours of the day in a way to recognize that all time belongs to God and all time is holy. The five decades correspond to the 5 key hours of the day: dawn, morning, midday, evening, nighttime. While the Rosary can be prayed at one sitting, it is good to recall that with it you consecrate your whole day and all your activities of the day to Jesus through Mary – how very beautiful! The Rosary can be prayed at any time and any place. Free Rosary beads and instructions are al-ways available right outside the Sacred Heart Chapel. Also, a group prays the Rosary in the Chapel on many mornings right after the 8:30am Mass, as well as in Spanish on Tuesdays at 7pm in the Saints’ Chapel. Our Lady of Mercy and Our Lady of the Rosary …. Pray for us!

God bless you all,

IS RCIA FOR YOU? There are many reasons why you may want to become involved in the RCIA. Do any of these fit you?

• I have never been baptized.

• I am married to a Catholic and attend Mass, but just don’t know what the next step may be.

• I have been baptized in another Christian denomination and wish to become Catholic.

• I have been baptized Catholic, but have not received any other sacraments.

Do you know someone who might be interested in being in full communion with the Catholic Church? Ask, encourage and invite them to this program. The journey begins with one small step! Next session: October 27th, 10:30AM in the Parish Center. For more info, call John Rokoszak at 201-391-3590 or [email protected]
