The following is part of an email we received on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from Scott Wallace, Minister of The First Christian Church in Port Arthur. Dear Richard, Progress continues to be made in small steps but with determination. We are blessed to have in our presence a group called poured-out.org. They are bringing in crews that clean and work in houses much in the same manner as Disciples Disaster Relief has done. When time permits or rain makes necessary, they are remaining at the church. They have hung sheet rock and we now have a few rooms that look like they ought to with walls! Thursday our former library room hosted the morning Disciples Women group and afternoon a Bible study group met. Wednesday our Evergreens met in the fellowship hall for lunch and dominoes. It is a good feeling to have things resume in a timely fashion. Donations continue to arrive from all places across the country and we have a point of distribution in the parking area that gives much of them to the people in the community. This group meets on Saturday mornings. This Saturday, for the second in a row, we met in the gym and disposed of items that were damaged in the flood. We know the building will be sparse and it is hard to part with so many memories, but we have an opportunity to shape the future of the church and it is a good feeling. Thank you for the support that Lakewood has shown us and may God's blessings be with you. Scott Wallace
