Additionally, students will be invited to participate in a one-day seminar after the first of the year to network and share their peacebuilding activities. During the seminar they will initiate and mutually carry out a peace project. The due date to the district of the club selection of Ambassadors for Peace is October 6, 2017. 28th Annual Rotary District 5300 PeaceConference - October 21, 2017

The 28th Annual Rotary District 5300 PeaceConference will be held in Rothenberg Hall at theworld renowned Huntington Library, Art Galleryand Botanical Gardens on October 21, 2017. This

year's theme, “Traditional and Social Media: Their Impacts on PeaceBuilding,” is a very relevant subject in today's world.

The conference features an interactive panel of media professionalswho will discuss with the audience how we can use various forms of themedia to create a culture of peace in our society and the world. Topicswill explore implications for peace through the uses and impacts of visualmedia, the transition from print media to new forms of communication,the uses and impacts of social media, and how to confront "fake news",misinformation, and spin.

Speakers will be featured in the upcoming District Highlighter:Steve Lambert, Editor and PublisherGeorgia Houston Webb, Team builder and marketing expert Gavin Sullivan, Writer, Producer and Moderator of the TV series Inside OutlookZeb Welborn, President of Welborn Media

The conference will honor Rudy Westervel as the Peacemaker of the Yearas well as feature the District 5300 Peace Ambassador Awards.

Peace conference ticketholders are also able to purchase a ticket forentry to the Huntington Library and Gardens after the conference for areduced rate of $10.00. Students can attend the conference for free,though they will have to pay for admission to the library and gardens ifthey would like to visit the library and gardens after the conference.

D5300 and 5330 receive Thank you note fromthe PhillipinesOn November 8, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan sweptthrough the Central Philippines, damaging homes,schools, and other infrastructures. The death tollclimbed to nearly 6,000 while another 4 million

were displaced. BNI, District 5300, and 5330 came together to assist inthe rebuild and immediate needs donating $59,907.00. Specialrecognition was given to Las Vegas Summerlin, North Las Vegas, AppleValley, and Chino Rotary Clubs.

Fast forward to September 1, 2017 for the update and receipt of a veryspecial thank you note from the region. The note indicated the regionssincere appreciation for the support and aid from the districts. The fundswere used to rebuild 15 schools, positively impacting 12,551 kids andfamilies.
