Oct/Nov 2012 On October 27th, 2012, at the CETPA Prevention building , we celebrated the first Substance Abuse Prevention Conference in Spanish in the state of Georgia. The event was a success for the Latino parents that wanted to learn first hand what was going on with their kids, as well as for the different speakers that participated in the forums. Throughout the numerous sessions, the parents were informed of the dangers that their children face not only in the streets but also in the schools. Some of the important topics addressed included the different type of drugs our youth is exposed to, how to detect if our children are involved with gangs, tools to better communicate with our children, and many other didactic workshops. The event took place in our spacious Prevention building that helped provide an atmosphere of comfort suitable for learning for parents and the various organizations that attended. Because of this great turnout and success, next year’s conference to bring our Latino community the right tools to be successful in the education of our children is already being planned. During this conference CETPA had the privilege of welcoming the participation of different organizations, along with some of our own family’s prominent team of professionals. Some of the invited organizations included; The Latin American Association, Renovación Conyugal, Lifting Latina’s Voices Initiative, Alcoholic Anonymous, Right from the Start Medicaid, State Representative Pedro Marin, and Police Officer Marco Silva (Gang Unit Specialist for Gwinnett County), among others. Their support was magnificent. Dr..Mancini giving his testimony. First Hispanic Substance Abuse Prevention Conference in Georgia Organized by CETPA www.cetpa.org “YOU CAN ACHIEVE IF YOU BELIEVE”

When "Boom-man" stepped through the doors, few would have believed a humble looking man in flip flops, basketball shorts, and a sweater was a renowned artist and producer. The members of the clubhouse attentively listened to every detail of his life and how he was able to succeed in life as a producer without having used drugs or alcohol.

After the brief presentation, Boom-man escorted the kids along with our

staff to his own personal studio where he gave the group a private tour. They were able to see all the different equipment used to create the tunes they so much enjoy, as well as hear a few samples of recorded music.

Everyone left with a poster and a demo CD as souvenirs on their hands, a smile on their faces, and glimpse of hope on their eyes. Thank you Mr. Boom-man, for sharing your talent and inspiring story!

Every Wednesday night, Sergeant Keith White shares an hour of his time with clubhouse members to discuss issues related to the National Guard, drug addiction, teamwork and the importance of continuing education after graduating from high school. Better than boot camp, but with the same great energy!

İ GRACIAS Sgt. White!

Lights, Camara, Action!

On Monday , November 19th, 2012, the DR3AMER’S Clubhouse had the privilege of visiting the local Spanish broadcasting television station of Univision 34 Atlanta. During the visit the clubhouse members had the opportunity of talking with the Creative Director, Iban de Miguel, and Public Relations Director, Mariela Romero, about career options in the world of media, as well as getting their curious questions answered.

A tour of the different offices and studios was given to the youth, in which they learned about the “secrets” of TV, journalism and witnessed firsthand the recording of a live news session.

Thank you Univision 34 Atlanta, for such an incredible experience!

members this Holiday Season. Thank you for your contribution!

On Tuesday, November 20th, CETPA DR3AMR’S hosted its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the Clubhouse members, their families and CETPA staff . All attendees enjoyed traditional dishes of the occasion, as well as a combination of delicious home-cooked plates that the parents brought themselves.

The celebration was a bundle of great food, games, laughter, joy and of course thanksgiving! The party culminated with a rush of leaves blowing towards the tree of gratitude, which the parents, youth and staff had filled out with their innermost heartfelt thoughts of appreciation and thankfulness. Our “Gratitude Tree” will be standing in our hearts and wall for as long as the Clubhouse stands.

We invite you to come visit our

Thanksgiving Tree.

During the past couple of months the clubhouse teenagers have unraveled an unprecedented deal of originality and creativity! With the support and skills of our Parent Advocate, Montserrat Mota, our members have discovered innovative ways of using our recyclable objects. The products range from cardboard boxes to beautiful jewelry/accessories/hair products/ make-up containers, Wall paper designs to decorate their rooms, to even old T-shirts to stylish jackets! Our Clubhouse never looked so awe-inspiring!

Arts & Crafts

During Thanksgiving break the DR3AMR’S Clubhouse had the pleasure of visiting The King Center, also known as The Martin Luther King, Jr Center for Nonviolent Social Change. For a little over two hours we toured the historic site, and enjoyed the videos and details about the life of this prominent civil rights fighter. What a magnificent example of courage and honor!
