Go behind the ropes and beyond the green rooms to view rock 'n' roll through the eyes of prolific photographer Robert M. Knight. He launched his 40-year career in 1968 with a line-up of now-legendary guitar heroes—Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin—as his first subjects, and went on to capture images of some of the greatest figures in rock 'n' roll history. Follow his story of professional survival and private redemption as he struggles to overcome self-doubt and fights to maintain his relevance.

This 13-part series is like no other in the Bay Area where we celebrate and look into the amazing world, and work of young Bay Area filmmakers. This series is an eclectic mix of stories as seen, and told by high school filmmakers, who often don't have the opportunity to showcase their work in front of a mass audience, so prepare yourself to be pleasantly surprised. Journey into the intriguing world of filmmaking by Bay Area High School students and peak into the mind of young filmmakers.

2010 is the centennial year of the Boy Scouts of America. Explore how the Boy Scouts—along with two weeks at a magnificent summer scout camp—can change a group of boys from Harlem into young men. Through these boys' eyes, see camaraderie, structure, and personal growth in a world that is quite removed from their homes in Harlem. But the real story is the personal growth they experience, and how one formative week can change a boy's outlook forever.

THE ANNALS OF JAZZ WITH RICHARD HADLOCKsunDays at 7 pm

The sound of surprise describes both jazz itself and the enduring premise of "The Annals of Jazz." Since 1959, host Richard Hadlock has been improvising on historical themes and bringing forth worthy performers—from Armstrong to Zorn. Each Sunday, we may find Annals in Europe, Asia, Latin America or Back of Town anywhere.

Perpetually sensitive in style and spirit, pianist Bill Evans (pictured) was driven by a ‘quiet fire’ that has influenced entire generations of pianists. Guest musical director Bill Charlap with guitarist and Evans collaborator Jim Hall and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra pay tribute with classics like Waltz for Debby, Five and Peri’s Scope.

What do the sounds of the violin, kora, accordion, vibraphone and vocoder have in common? In the hands of innovative jazz fiddler Regina Carter (pictured) and vibraphonist Stefon Harris, they explore their past to create a very contemporary sound. With kora player Yacouba Sissoko and accordionist Will Holshouser, Carter explores the music of Africa – from Ugandan Jewish songs to traditional folk music of Madagascar and Mali. Harris and his band Blackout find inspiration in the funk and soul sound of the 70s.

Mary Lou Williams (pictured) achieved and maintained a status that many women in jazz found elusive: unwavering respect from male colleagues as a musical equal. Her accomplishments are many as arranger and pianist with Andy Kirk and his Twelve Clouds of Joy, with her own small groups, and with the be-bop artists of the '40s. Throughout, she was always - as Duke Ellington once said - "perpetually contemporary."

It's hard to overstate the incredible reach of this original American artist. Louis Armstrong (pictured) defined American culture and did it with the force of his talent as a musician, singer, composer, author, innovator, entertainer, actor, and bandleader. He transcended racial barriers and became America's ambassador to the world.

Louis Daniel Armstrong transcended a lifetime of obstacles to become America's most influential singer and trumpeter. In the process, he became a true American hero, shaping the destiny of the jazz world forever. By going from rags to riches, Louis Armstrong realized the American dream and became arguably the most important artist in American culture.

Nels Cline (pictured) is well-known as the lead guitarist for the indie rock band Wilco, but he has been playing and recording in jazz groups since the 1980s. He brings his free jazz trio, the Nels Cline Singers (which includes no singers!), to this Piano Jazz session with guest host Jon Weber for a set of richly layered free improvisations and a familiar tune or two.

Grammy award-winning vocalist Alicia Keys (pictured) has rocked the pop and R&B worlds with her velvet voice and soulful piano playing. This New York native blends the influences of jazz greats such as Fats Waller and Oscar Peterson with a songwriting style inspired by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, and Donny Hathaway. On this session from 2006, Keys plays one of her signature tunes, Fallin, and joins McPartland on Good Morning Heartache. An excerpt of this program can also be found in the 30th Anniversary Piano Jazz Interactive at www.pianojazz.npr.org

We turn up the Heath (pictured) with the NEA Jazz Master (born 10/25/1926) on his Big P, the waltz Gemini, Gingerbread Boy.
